Pervert used social media app to chat to girl

A man tried to encourage a teenage girl to send indecent photographs of herself through a social media app, a court has heard.

Mark Smith, 44, of Heald Street, Chorley, admitted a string of eight offences during a hearing at Preston Crown Court.

They include two of attempting to incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity.

The court was told between March 1 and 7 last year, Smith encouraged the girl to send a picture of herself to him via Kik messenger, and also encouraged a 14-year-old to engage in sexual conversation.

Smith also admitted six charges relating to possessing indecent images and videos of children.

The court was told when he was arrested in Chorley, 40 pictures were found on a Samsung mobile phone. Two were considered category A – the most serious in law, while three were ranked category B and 35 deemed category C.

Smith had indecent video recordings of children stored in a Dropbox folder, of which eight were category A, three category B and 32 at category C.

Judge Heather Lloyd sentenced him to 26 weeks, suspended for two years, and he must sign the Sex Offender’s register for seven years.

English dad-of-four travelled 500 miles to have sex with 14-year-old girl in Kirkcaldy hotel after grooming her online

A dad-of-four travelled 500 miles to have sex with a 14-year-old girl in a Kirkcaldy hotel after grooming her online.

The convicted sex offender, who contacted his victim on an online self harm support group, has now been caged for four and a half years.

Michael Murray, 34, travelled to meet the teenager, who “genuinely believed” he was trying to help her.

He initially pretended he was just 18 before going on to have sex with her at the hotel in Fife.

Murray was snared during a cop probe when it was also discovered he had asked another teenage girl to send him a naked photo.

It emerged he was previously convicted of indecent assault and exposure in England.

Jailing Murray, from Devon, judge Lady Stacey said: “You preyed on young girls.

“You deceived them and there was planning and preparation in the way you carried out these crimes.

“It is obvious you present a risk to young girls.”

Lady Stacey placed Murray on the sex offenders’ register and ordered him to be monitored in the community on licence for three years after he was released from jail.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that the 14-year-old began chatting to Murray online in July 2017.

Prosecutor Angela Gray said: “She started communicating with Murray via a Facebook self harm support group.

“He had previously set up a Facebook account in the name Andi Richardson.”

Murray pretended he was 18 and also sent a fake pic to the girl and the pair were in daily contact.

Miss Graysaid: “She disclosed her feelings and reasons for why she was seeking help.

“He listened to her and offered her support. She began to trust him genuinely believing that he was trying to help her.”

They started talking on the phone before the pervert instigated “sexual chat” and pestered her for photographs.

In October last year Murray then told the girl his name was Michael and he was 25.

Despite this, she still agreed to see Murray when he suggested they meet up.

He travelled to Kirkcaldy on November 3 and on the train journey a passenger “became alarmed about a video call he was making to the girl and alerted the British Transport Police who quizzed Murray.

He told them he was on his way to visit his daughter in Scotland and was allowed to continue his journey.”

He met his victim that afternoon and they checked into a hotel where Murray had sex with the youngster.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went to the cops who recovered a string of sexually explicit messages between the pair.

Murray was also in touch with another 14 year-old girl online.

He asked her for a nude picture claiming he would send one in return

Murray pled guilty to having unlawful sex with the 14-year-old and sending sexual images and texts to her.

He also admitted sending a sexual image to the other teenager and invited her to send sexual images to him.

The offences were committed in Fife between July and November 2017.

Jerry Sheahan – Dublin

November 2013

‘Predator’ (36) had sex with girls after posing as teenage boy on site

A 36-year-old man posed as a 16-year-old boy on a social network site in order to contact three teenage girls for sex.

Jerry Sheahan (38), of Clare Hall Village, Malahide Road, Dublin, pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual intercourse with the girls in three different counties, including Dublin, on dates between March and July 2011 when the girls were aged 15 and 16.

Described by the judge as a “predator”, Sheahan had used a similar ruse to make his first contact with the victims.

Prosecuting Counsel Carl Hanahoe said Sheahan – who was 36 at the time – set up a profile in the under-18 section of Tagged.com in 2011. Sheahan – an area manager with Centra – posed as Conor W and listed his age as 16. He included a photograph of a teenage boy as part of his profile.

He then contacted his victims who also had profiles on the website and asked them to text him, Det Garda Ray Andrews told Trim Circuit Court.

When they did, he would text back asking who they were and their age. He would also say his name was Jerry, that he was not on Tagged.com and that he was 36.

Sheahan used texting to build up contact with the girls before arranging to meet them. He would meet them on several occasions and build up a relationship with them which led to them having sexual intercourse in remote areas in the country or disused factory sites where he took them in his car, the court heard.

Sheahan had promised one of the girls a job when they first met and then drove her to a quiet location where she was asked to perform oral sex before they had intercourse. An hour later he met her again and drove her to a remote area where they had intercourse again.

Sheahan’s offending came to light when a friend of one of the victims alerted the girl’s mother and the gardai were contacted. When Sheahan was first interviewed by gardai he admitted knowing the girl but denied having sexual intercourse with her.

He contacted the gardai 10 days later and admitted having intercourse with the under-17-year-old twice and also told gardai about the other two victims.

One of the victims told gardai she had had been 15 going on 16 at the time and felt weak and vulnerable. She had felt uncomfortable about having intercourse but did not want to upset Sheahan. She added that her relationship with her parents had now changed, as they no longer trusted her.

A second victim said she felt he had taken advantage of her and added that the trust between herself and her parents was gone because of what had happened.

The third victim said she had gone off the rails and had been drinking heavily for several months after meeting Sheahan.

A defence barrister said her client – who had a degree in music and philosophy and worked as an area manager with Centra – accepted that what he did was wrong and had undergone 230 hours of group psychotherapy.

“There is an aspect to him that is very ordinary yet clearly there is another aspect that has caused so much damage to others – the girls and his own family and friends,” the lawyer said.

Judge Michael O Shea said Sheahan had acted as a predator for the sole purpose of having sexual intercourse. He said the effects on the girls, who had been very young and vulnerable, had been extremely serious.

The judge described the crimes as the “disgusting sexual violation and abuse of the three girls”.

Judge O Shea said it was not a case for concurrent sentences, as the victims had been individually selected.

The judge imposed three consecutive sentences of two years each.

Judge O Shea also refused a defence application to consider suspending part of the sentence.

Police warn about Live.Me app after cyber sex beast groomed ‘countless children’ online

This is the moment police caught up with a cyber sex beast who could have abused children all over the world, without even leaving his home.

Posing as a teenage boy online, pervert pensioner Michael Coulter was able to contact countless young victims from his Newcastle flat, where he used his Ipad to record indecent images of children being abused, from a live-streaming site.

But now thanks to the actions of one worried North East mum, who contacted police when she found messages from Coulter on her daughter’s phone, the fiend is beginning a long jail sentence.

Chronicle Live was given exclusive behind the scenes access to the work of Northumbria Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), on the morning Coulter was arrested.

And now detectives have lifted the lid on how the pervert pensioner was snared as they reveal that work is still going on to trace Coulter’s potential victims, around the globe.

To his neighbours in Kenton, Coulter would have appeared to be a harmless, unassuming pensioner.

But behind closed doors he was spending around five hours a day on the live-streaming app, LiveMe, which is popular with teenagers, where he would type out sexual demands while posing as a teenage boy called ‘Geordie Mike’ to dupe vulnerable underage girls, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Over a period of almost 14 years he amassed a mountain of filthy child abuse images. And after police seized his computers and devices tests revealed his hard drives were bulging with over 10,000 pictures and videos.

Coulter amassed 1,500 contacts, mainly young girls, on the app, prosecutor Jolyon Perks explained.

He spent £50-a-month on ‘diamonds’, a crypto-currency used on Live.me which he gifted to get his profile to the top of streams.

Once there, he made filthy demands – including one in which he told two young girls “I want more booby”, the court was told.

He was the “principal contributor of diamonds” in another stream in which dozens of perverts watched as a girl, thought to be aged around nine, was sexually assaulted.

And in another encounter, he tricked a 17-year-old girl to shower for him.

Mr Perks said: “She addresses the defendant as if she believes she’s speaking to a young male.”

Coulter would then move the chats off the app, bombarding some of his contacts with smutty Instagram messages.

He told one girl: “I wish you were a little bit older…I would love to snog your face off.”

And the court heard there was an element of grooming, with the sex offender sending gifts – including toys – to some girls’ homes.

He also trawled grubby forums, exchanging images with other paedophiles – even buying some for $15 from a pervert he met via Skype.

When officers swopped on his Rosslyn Avenue home one morning last October, they found him watching a Live.me stream on his IPad, Judge Robert Spragg was told.

But police would never have uncovered Coulter’s vile crimes had they not been alerted to his behaviour by a mum in County Durham who contacted police when she found What’s App messages from a teenager on her teenage daughter’s phone.

Local officers traced the phone number to Newcastle and the case was handed over to Northumbria POLIT officers.

Detectives traced Coulter and immediately began looking into his background, assessing whether he had access to any children who may be at immediate risk.

Despite discovering that he lived alone officers decided that the fact that he had been in contact with a young girl was enough to make him a potential danger and arrested him in a low key early morning swoop. When officers arrived he had LiveMe open on his Ipad and a large stash of devices in his home, which were seized.

Plain-clothed officers walked the heavily-built bearded paedophile into Forth Banks Police Station in Newcastle.

Coulter remained calm as charges were put to him and he was booked into custody for questioning.

Coulter pleaded guilty to nine counts including, distributing indecent photographs of a child, making indecent photographs, taking indecent photographs, and four charges of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, at Newcastle Crown Court.

He was last week jailed for eight years after Judge Spragg branded him: “every parents worst nightmare.”

Coulter’s eight year sentence features an additional five years on extension, he’s also subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Judge Spragg said: “This kind of online activity is every parents worst nightmare. You will only be released if the parole board decide it is safe to do so.”

Coventry paedophile who made social media accounts to groom children jailed for 15 years

A paedophile from Coventry who hijacked a teenage boy’s social media profile and used it to groom children has been jailed for 15 years.

The sentencing follows a West Midlands Police investigation that led detectives to uncover victims as far afield as the United States.

Coventry man Benjamin Reynolds posed as a girl on an internet chat site to trick a 14-year-old boy into sending him indecent images.

Police say the 30-year-old created fake Skype profiles using the boy’s bio, plus photos ripped from his Facebook and Instagram accounts, and used them to trick girls aged from 12 to 16-years-old into believing they were messaging a teenage boy.

Manipulative Reynolds − who in one message to a victim admitted “I get off on the power” − persuaded the children to send him indecent images and perform sex acts in front of webcams.

It’s understood he got away with abusing children online for almost a decade − keeping victims quiet with threats to share intimate images among their friends and family − until a 16-year-old girl reported to US police she’d been groomed.

An email address linked to a fake Skype profile was traced to Grangemouth Road in the Radford area of Coventry and on May 5 2016 officers from West Midlands Police’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team raided the address.

Unemployed Reynolds was arrested and computer and media storage devices seized from his bedroom.

Forensic examination of the hardware revealed more than 23,000 indecent images of children and more than 300 videos dating between December 2007 and May 3 2016.

Some of the files included distressing images and videos of young children being abused.

And investigators also found notes he’d written to himself including one that read: “Relax, you are never going to meet her you are never going to date her, if she knew who you were she would never be interested in you.”

In police interview, Reynolds admitted possessing indecent images

And at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday (July 5) he was jailed for 15 years having admitted three charges of making indecent images of children, five of inciting children to engage in sexual activity, one of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, plus four counts of blackmail.
