Man jailed for terrorism offences is further sentenced for indecent images

A man currently in prison for committing right-wing-related terrorism offences has been further sentenced for indecent and extreme image crimes, after officers discovered some of the most serious types of sexual abuse images on his phone.

Yesterday, (Wednesday, 23 July) Jacek Tchorzewski, 19 (17.11.00), a Polish national, who was staying in Buckinghamshire before he was jailed last year, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment to run concurrent with his four-year sentence for terrorism offences.

He is also subject to a deportation order, meaning after he has served his sentence he will be deported from the UK.

Officers from the Eastern Region Specialist Operation Unit Counter Terrorism Policing (ERSOU CTP) stopped Tchorzewski at Luton Airport on Wednesday, 20 February 2019, before he could board a flight to Poland.

Using powers under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000, they searched him and seized his mobile phone.

Examination of his phone and other digital devices revealed Tchorzewski had collated a number of documents that were in breach of the Terrorism Act 2000 as well as indecent images.

The Met Police Counter Terrorism launched two investigations into Tchorzewski, supported by ERSOU CTP.

The investigation into terrorist material identified Tchorzewski had amassed a plethora of guides on terrorism, bomb making and gun production. Tchorzewski had downloaded an array of right-wing material which praised Hitler, neo-Nazism and Satanism. The documents featured anti-Semitic sentiments and even called for genocide.

He pleaded guilty to 10 counts of counts of possession of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58, at the Old Bailey on 21 June 2019. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on 20 September.

On 18 March 2020 he was charged with three counts of possession of an indecent photograph of a child/pseudo-photograph of a child, contrary to section 160(1), (2A) and (3) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, and one count of possession of extreme pornographic image/images, contrary to sections 63(1), (7)(c) and 67(3) of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

Four of the images were classified Category A – the most serious type – and a further eight were classified Category B and C.

Tchorzewski pleaded guilty to these charges on 08 June 2020 and was sentenced yesterday at Harrow Crown Court.

Paedophile who fled to Africa from North Wales jailed for nine years in his absence

A child abuser who was sentenced to nine years has fled justice – to Africa.

Maclear Dilla, 40 was convicted by a jury in his absence at Mold Crown Court last month after he failed to turn up.

The former factory worker committed offences against a girl aged under 16 when he lived in Bethesda, Gwynedd and in Chester between 2006 and 2008, the court heard.

Dilla had pleaded guilty to one charge of kissing her but denied five other allegations of sexual activity with a child, including having sex.

Anna Pope, prosecuting, said the victim stated she’d become “extremely paranoid”.

In an impact statement the girl, now a young woman, had said she didn’t feel safe with men, and was insecure in company.

She had felt ashamed for not saying no to Dilla but had now started to accept that she was not responsible, being a child when her abuser took advantage of her.

Judge Huw Rees said Dilla had come to this country in the early 2000s to join his wife.

He had not sought to coerce the girl in a violent way but it was “a classic case of grooming” and he used her “as a vehicle for his sexual lust.”

The judge remarked: “My overview is that this is a serious set of sexual abuse over a two or three year period.”

Indefinite sexual harm and reporting orders were made.

A crown court arrest warrant has been issued.

An Oxford University professor who has held a prestigious title since 2014, has been jailed in France for downloaded 28,000 child abuse images.

Theology professor Jan Joosten, 61, has been suspended as Regius Professor of Hebrew – a title that was founded by Henry VIII in the 16th century.

A lengthy investigation by police in Strasbourg uncovered a thousands of images downloaded by Joosten, including depictions of child rape.

The father of four accepted the facts of the case and described his addiction as ‘a secret garden, in contradiction with myself,

Oxford university and Christ Church, the college he was affiliated with, issued this statement on Monday: ‘We can confirm that, following the conviction in France of Professor Jan Joosten for possession of images and videos of child pornography, he has been suspended by the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Christ Church pending further action.

Joosten was given a year’s prison sentence by a court in the city of Saverne, North East France, last week. The court heard he had around 27,000 images and around 1,000 videos depicting child abuse, according to Agence France-Presse.

According to AFP he was not immediately sent to prison and his sentence will be supervised and possibly amended by an independent judge.

The court ordered a three-year programme of treatment, barred him being in contact with minors and placed him on the French sex offenders’ register.

Joosten’s defence team argued he should not be imprisoned as this was his first offence and he had sought psychiatric help voluntarily.

Student jailed for attempted rape at Hackney bus stop

A student who tried to force a woman to perform a sex act on him in the street has been sent to prison for attempted rape.

Rami Othmane, 21 (29.03.99), from Sicily, Italy but living in Hackney at the time of the offence, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, 6 May.

He previously pled guilty at the same court on 25 February.

At 04:00hrs on Wednesday, 22 January, a member of staff in a CCTV control room happened to witness Othmane attempting to force himself onto a woman at a bus stop on Allerton Road in Hackney.

The controller alerted police straight away and officers immediately attended the location – on arrival they found the victim but Othmane had left.

The victim did not wish to give a report to police but due to the seriousness of the offence, officers investigated the incident regardless.

Officers were able to track Othmane through his movements on CCTV. They then visited nearby addresses days later and asked residents if they knew who the man could be. On 30 January a resident directed officers to Othmane’s address; they attended that same day and while speaking with him, spotted the coat he was seen wearing in the CCTV at the time of the offence.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with attempted rape on 31 January.

Detective Constable Dave Barrett led the investigation. He said: “It is with huge thanks to the diligent CCTV operator who spotted this alarming incident and immediately called police, allowing the officers to act quickly and locate the victim and ultimately put this man behind bars.

“We fully respect the victim’s decision not to make a report but we hope today’s outcome proves that we took this incident, like all sexual offences, extremely seriously and will work tirelessly to trace those who think they can commit atrocious crimes such as this.

“Othmane is a dangerous individual and he may well have caused serious harm to others if he wasn’t apprehended.”

Former Ballarat school staffer jailed after caught with 15,000 child sexual abuse images

A Ballarat father and former employee of a local secondary school, caught with almost 15,000 child sexual abuse images and hundreds of videos, has been jailed for 15 months.

Sentencing Lee Terrence Clarke, 42, of Wendouree, in the County Court at Ballarat on Tuesday morning, Judge Frank Gucciardo said having to view some of the images himself had been “revolting”

Judge Gucciardo said many of the images, thousands of which depicted young boys engaged in sexual acts with grown men, were “abhorrent” and the offending “depraved”.

“They are exploited and abused young children,” Judge Gucciardo said.

“This is a sustained cause of conduct and is not isolated offending.”

The judge said there had been “a very large number of victims used to produce such filth”.

Judge Gucciardo said Clarke, a father of two boys who had been married at the time of his offending, was caught in October 2012 after allowing a covert police member to access his collection of child abuse images

The judge said Clarke had been the member of an online peer-to-peer file sharing network and both viewed and shared files with 250 other users.

He expressed concern that Clarke, using an online messaging system, also discussed grooming tactics with other users and on one occasion told a user he had once engaged in a sexual act with a young boy he met near a shopping centre.

Clarke pleaded guilty to charges of accessing child porn using a carriage service and making child porn available using a carriage service.

Clarke will be eligible for parole in nine months.

He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for 15 years.
