Care worker, 26, sobs as she admits abusing ‘position of trust’ to incite 15-year-old boy to touch her breasts then grope him on New Year’s Eve at a ‘secure training centre’

A care worker wept in court yesterday as she admitted child sex offences against a 15-year-old boy at a secure training centre, including inciting him to touch her breasts.

Ashley Wright, 26, took advantage of the boy at various locations including the training facility in Buckinghamshire between May 2019 and January 2020.

Wright appeared at Kingston Crown Court via videolink from her home in Wigston, Leicestershire, with tears streaming down her face during the short plea hearing.

She made the boy grab her breasts on October 21, 2019, and touched him inappropriately on New Years Eve 2019. She also sent the victim sexually explicit texts on November 13, 2019, the court heard.

But she denied sending the boy a sexually explicit handwritten love letter, and the prosecution offered no evidence in respect of that charge.

Judge Georgina Kent adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report but warned Wright she could face jail when she is sentenced on June 22.

Wright admitted abusing a position of trust, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a child and engaging in sexual communication with a child.

They can be reported after a further charge of engaging in sexual communications with a child was discontinued at Kingston Crown Court.

Wright appeared by video-link, wearing an open-collared striped shirt and dark blazer, speaking to confirm her name and date of birth.

She sobbed as she was asked if she admitted the charges at the magistrates’ court, answering: ‘I do, yeah.’ She denied a further charge of engaging in sexual communication with a child in respect of the letter.

Wright was bailed on condition she does not contact her victim, enter the M25 other than to attend court, or meet children without supervision from another adult.

She is currently on the Sex Offenders Register, and the prosecution are seeking to impose a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The judge said: ‘The ordering of the report is no indication as to outcome. These are very serious offences, and the custody threshold has been crossed.’

Wright was granted bail on the conditions she does not contact the victim, does not enter the M25 and has no contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless supervised by another adult.

Comedian walks free from court after sending pals indecent images of kids on Whatsapp

A social worker who sent pals indecent images of infant children being abused or tortured for “shock value” has walked free from court

Ronnie Park had images on two different iPhones possessed and distributed them to friends between May 2017 and December 2019.

The 47-year-old, who is also a stand-up comedian and local radio DJ, suggested “black humour” was behind his actions.

Park, who was a social worker for Clackmannanshire Council, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to possession and distribution of indecent images.

Sheriff Martin Jones ordered Park to do 270 hours of unpaid work and put him under supervision for two years.

He was also added to the sex offenders register for two years.

The court heard officers raided Park’s home in the city’s Baillieston and seized an iPhone.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court Park admitted ownership of the device and stated he owned no others.

A cybercrime examination of the phone recovered three moving indecent images of children.

Mr Allan added: “These were images of children between infant age and nine years.

“Images were distributed to another by the accused using WhatsApp.”

Park was arrested before another iPhone was recovered from him which contained a further five moving images.

Mr Allan stated: “These were children aged between six months and 11-years-old.

“These moving images were images of child exploitation.”

The hearing was told the five images were also distributed by Park on WhatsApp.

Former Ardrossan social worker jailed for historical rape of teenage boy

A former social worker who raped a teenage boy and sexually abused another man was today jailed for three years and nine months.

John Noon, 69, claims his life has been destroyed by the conviction and continues to maintain his innocence.

Jailing him at the High Court in Glasgow Judge Sean Murphy QC said: “You have been convicted of gravely serious offences. Both complainers have been significantly affected by your actions.

“One of them tells in his his victim impact statement of how he went off the rails for a time. Your actions have had a significant impact on them.”

The court heard that denied he was a paedophile, when confronted by his rape victim.

Noon, from Ardrossan, said “I’m not an paedophile I’m an abuser.”

Noon, was found guilty after trial of raping the teenager while he was sleeping on one occasion between October 1986 and 1988 when he was aged between 13 and 14. The abuse took place at a house in Ardrossan.

He was also convicted of sexually abusing him from October 1986 to September 1989 at addresses in Ardrossan

The jury also found Noon guilty of indecently assaulting a man while he was asleep. This happened at a flat in Ardrossan.

Noon, who was a residential social worker caring for vulnerable young children, denied all the charges against him.

Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel said: “John Noon was confronted and told he had raped this teenager – who is now in his 40’s – and on the account of several people he said nothing.

She told the jury: “Imagine if someone barged into your house and accused you of rape. You would be saying are you mad instead we have him patting his wife’s knee and saying “I’m not an paedophile I’m an abuser.”

Noon denied the allegations and claimed that his victims were lying.

Ms Dalziel said: “These are ordinary decent men doing their best to tell you about something horrific, they are not here for the dramatics or the attention or whatever ridiculous is being insinuated – two hardworking, family men who have been utterly affected by what happened to them and further rocked by the discovery that they weren’t alone in that – to the point they could no longer stay quiet.”

Pervert said: ‘I’m not a paedophile, I’m an abuser’ when confronted by his rape victim

An Ardrossan man who cared for vulnerable kids boasted: ‘I’m not a paedophile, I’m an abuser’ when confronted by his rape victim.

Sick sex beast John Noon, 69, sneaked up on a teenage boy while he slept and raped him.

The abuse took place between October 1986 and 1988 when the victim was aged between 13 and 14.

Noon, of Queens Drive, also targeted another sleeping victim, pouncing on the man and sexually abusing him, in an Ardrossan flat

But the pervert pensioner, who was a residential social worker caring for vulnerable young children, denied all the charges against him.

Today, the family of one of his victims have spoken out, saying they are ‘ecstatic’ that Noon has been found guilty of the heinous attacks.

One family member told the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: “We are ecstatic that justice is finally being served.

“People thought this man was a pillar in the community but now he has finally been found out.

“I want everyone to know what John Noon has done.

“It is shocking what he has done but I feel justice has been served.”

Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel said: “John Noon was confronted and told he had raped this teenager – who is now in his 40’s – and on the account of several people he said nothing.

She told the jury: “Imagine if someone barged into your house and accused you of rape.

“You would be saying are you mad instead we have him patting his wife’s knee and saying “I’m not an paedophile, I’m an abuser.”

Judge Sean Murphy QC deferred sentence on Noon until next month.

November 2020: Spared prison

Scots care worker’s life in tatters after sex acts with vulnerable teen exposed

A care worker who struck up a sexual relationship with a vulnerable teenage boy has been spared jail.

Kayleigh Martin, 26, started the inappropriate affair with the 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after being handed his case.

The pair met at a residential centre which offers support for troubled teenagers and young adults.

They exchanged a series of explicit messages before carrying out sex acts in the Lanarkshire-based unit which offers one-to-one help for youngsters.

Horrified bosses called in police when the affair came to light and she was arrested in July last year.

Martin, of Hamilton , Lanarkshire, appeared at Lanark Sheriff Court and went on trial where she denied all wrongdoing.

But she was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with the teenager while in a position of trust and sending a sexual communication.

She was placed under supervision for two years and ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work by Sheriff Nikola Stewart who blasted her “appalling behaviour”.

Disgraced Martin, who now works in retail, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for two years and banned from contacting the teen.

Archie Hill, defending, said: “There is simply no prospect of her going into that field of work ever again.

“The lady respects the finding of the court, but maintains her position and I would have been shocked if she had changed that because she is vehement in her denial of this offence.

“But the galling thing about this case is that she has simply put her head in the sand and this has been a horrific experience for her.

“She only had some experience of the job and there were some texts that were inappropriate but she was an inexperienced worker in that environment.

“He was used to the system but she simply wasn’t, it was unusual how much contact she was having with this young man.

“She always wanted to work in that field but that will not happen and this case will impact her life in every way imaginable.”

Martin is a registered residential child care worker with the Scottish Social Services Council.

A source said: “She had a very promising career ahead of her but she has absolutely ruined that for herself.

“She should never have allowed herself to get involved in a situation like this and now she has to accept the consequences.

“Her life has been changed completely and she is lucky she wasn’t sent to prison for a massive breach of trust from someone who should have known better.”

Sheriff Stewart said: “This was a serious relationship regardless of what she thought it was.

“He is a young man who has an attractive, caring young woman who was giving him a highly unusual amount of attention and the warning bells should have been ringing much earlier.

“I don’t think she is predatory but is someone who is naive and foolish.

“I have no doubt that this will have undoubted serious repercussions on his life and frankly this is a dreadful thing she has done.

“The benefit of her education has now been entirely wasted.

“I regard this appalling behaviour very seriously and can’t say enough how worried I am about the repercussions of this on this young man’s life.”

Inspire Scotland, who ran the unit where Martin was based, have been approached for comment.

Council head struck off after making indecent images of children

A top Hampshire social worker has been struck off after he admitted making indecent images of children.

Simon J Cartland was employed as head of learning disabilities at Hampshire County Council’s adults’ health and care.

The charges he pleaded guilty to included Category A movies – regarded as the most severe form.

The Health and Care Professional Tribunal Service heard that Cartland had been convicted of the crimes at Guildford Crown Court in April last year.

The tribunal was handed a letter he’d sent to his employers in which he acknowledged that his behaviour constituted ‘a complete breach of trust’.

He said he realised “the horror of the absolute hurt, anger and deep pain that I have caused my husband, family and friends and no doubt work colleagues, in addition to those service users I have served in Hampshire, is and will be immeasurable”.

“I fully accept that my behaviour has perpetrated the on going harm and abuse of children and though I am engulfed in feelings of utter remorse and shame, I am committed to face the consequences of my actions and will reflect and learn from them until the day I die,” he said.

The tribunal heard that Cartland had entered guilty pleas to both charges and had been sentenced to a community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement and an unpaid work requirement (80 hours) for a period of 12 months.

He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for a period of five years and required to register with the police in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act 2003 for a period of five years.

In an email to the HCPC he added: “My behaviour in downloading and viewing the four indecent images, not only is a complete breach of HCPC professional standards, but is a shameful failure of the values and principles regarding human rights and anti-discrimination practice that were central to my practice, leadership and personal life.

“I fully accept that there is only one right outcome to your investigation, for me to be struck off.

“As for the future, I will forever be honest about the harm that I’ve caused, in addition will be candid and open regarding the deep remorse of my behaviour regarding this offence.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said: “We understand that Simon Cartland has been struck off as a registered social worker by the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service.

“The offences to which he pleaded guilty and which were considered by the tribunal were unconnected to his work at the county council – and he no longer works for the authority.”
