Child sex abuser jailed for life

A child sex offender who encouraged two women to abuse children has been handed a life sentence.

James Jewell, 36, of Brymer Road, Puddletown, Dorchester, was jailed at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 13 August 2020.

Jewell was sentenced after admitting six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, aiding and abetting the sexual assault of a child and aiding and abetting an offender to engage in sexual activity with a child.

He was also sentenced for three counts of making indecent images of a child and two counts of distributing indecent images of a child.

The charges related to offences which occurred in Greenhithe and Tunbridge Wells between November 2017 and July 2018 where Jewell encouraged two women he met online to carry out sexual abuse of children.

Kirsty Kimber, 26, of York Road, Tunbridge Wells, was jailed for more than nine years in February after pleading guilty to six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of taking indecent photographs of a child and three counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child.

Concerns were raised on 20 July 2018 after videos were found by a friend on a mobile phone of her abusing a child. She was also found to have shared these videos via an instant messaging app with Jewell.

A second woman from Greenhithe was handed a 14-month sentence, suspended for 18 months in July 2019 after pleading guilty to seven child sex offences.

Both women were also handed Sexual Harm Prevention Orders.

Following an investigation Jewell was arrested on 22 August 2018 and charged with the offences on 12 February 2020. As part of the life sentence he must serve a minimum of six years and eight months before being considered for parole.

A vile child abuser filmed herself assaulting kids on Whatsapp to send to a paedophile who got her to carry out the depraved acts.

Kirsty Kimber, 26, shared the horrifying videos with James Jewell – which were found by a shocked colleague trying to fix her phone.

The pair referred to themselves as “master and slave”, a court was told.

Kent Police arrested Kimber and 37-year-old Jewell after her workmate alerted them to the sick clips.

Kimber, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, admitted 15 child sex offences and was jailed in January last year.

But Jewell, from Puddletown in Dorchester, Dorset, only pleaded guilty on Tuesday after he was snared in a wider police probe.

Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court, Kent, via Skype, he could be seen covering his mouth with his hand as the charges were read out by the clerk.

He told Judge David Griffith-Jones QC he was happy to go ahead without legal representation “in the hope” he would get a longer prison sentence.

Jewell admitted eight charges of aiding, abetting, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one of aiding and abetting sexual assault of a child, two offences of distributing indecent moving images of children, and three offences of making a total of 139 indecent photographs of children.

He: “Throughout the entire case I didn’t want any sort of defence.

“I have spoken to the (police) officer dealing with this and my hope is that without legal representation it will be a longer custodial sentence.”

Jewell, currently on bail, told the court: “Before this happened, well before, I sought psychiatric help for issues I went through prior, and during my time on bail I have tried every avenue and the officer has tried his hardest (for me) as well.

“If it’s my chance to talk to someone, I would very much like that. I have tried for years.”

He was told a jail sentence was “inevitable”, after Judge Griffith-Jones said it was “absurd” that he had been on bail for so long.

The same judge previously jailed Kimber, for nine years and four months for what he described as “an extraordinarily wicked catalogue of offences revealing breathtaking depravity”.

She was said to suffer from a sexual masochism disorder and paraphilia – a condition involving abnormal or extreme sexual desires.

Prosecutor Martin Yale told the court on that occasion: “The male was discussing with the defendant the abuse, with him asking her to do certain things and some of which were depicted in the videos.

“During the conversations he refers to her as his slave and she refers to him as master.”

The videos on her phone lasted between several seconds and up to almost three minutes.

The subsequent police investigation led to a second woman being charged, convicted and given a suspended sentence at London’s Woolwich Crown Court in August last year.

Gemma Watts: Sex attacks woman posed as teenage boy

A woman disguised herself as a teenage boy to sexually assault girls after grooming them online.

Gemma Watts posed as 16-year-old “Jake Waton” on social media and swapped intimate photos with victims before meeting at locations across England.

Watts, 21, of Enfield, pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court to sexual offences involving four girls and was jailed for eight years.

Police believe she may have assaulted up to 50 victims in total.

Scotland Yard said Watts had used her own picture on Snapchat and Instagram accounts as “Jake” and targeted girls aged 13 to 16 by liking their profiles.

She used teenage slang, sent flattering messages and shared intimate photographs before travelling to meet them in person.

Her disguise included tying her hair back in a bun and wearing a baseball cap, jogging bottoms and a hoodie.

Police said all of her victims believed they were in a relationship with a teenage boy until officers revealed Watts was actually an adult woman.

She was so convincing she even spent time as “Jake” with some of the girls’ parents.

The court heard two of the victims had since made several suicide attempts because of their experiences.

One 14-year-old girl said her “heart exploded” when she learned the truth about Watts from the police.

In a victim statement read out in court, she said: “My world stopped, I actually stopped breathing… I loved him so much.”

The offences she has admitted relate to a 13-year-old from Plymouth, two 14-year-olds from Surrey and Hampshire and a 16-year-old from the West Midlands.

Barnaby Shaw, prosecuting, said Watts repeatedly groped one of the victims during regular overnight stays over a three-month period.

On one occasion, he said the girl believed she was touching Watts’ genitals but was deceived by “what must have been a number of socks tightly rolled together”.

Passing sentence, Judge Susan Evans QC said Watts had groomed young girls for her own gratification.

“Their youth, as you plainly knew, made them more naive and made you more likely to get away with your deception,” she told Watts.

A doctor in Hampshire first raised concerns to police in March 2018 after a young patient revealed she was in a relationship with an older boy.

In July that year Watts admitted to Met officers she had been sexually active as “Jake” with the first three victims.

She was released under investigation and arrested again in October 2018 by British Transport Police who found her on a train with a fourth victim.

Officers initially thought Watts was a 16-year-old boy and were taking her home to London before they realised her true identity.

In November 2019, Watts pleaded guilty to one count of assault by penetration, three counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and three counts of sexual assault.

Paedophile couple filmed themselves abusing young girls

A paedophile couple jailed for 26 years plotted to make their friend’s five-year-old son their next victim after molesting five young girls in a bid to spice up their sex life.

Keeli Burlingham, 33, and Peter Taylor, also 33, would sexually assault youngsters and send pictures and videos of the abuse to each other over WhatsApp.

The pair, of Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, began their sick campaign of abuse after he asked her to dress as a schoolgirl as part of a sexual role play. 

On one occasion cafe worker Burlingham took pictures of herself molesting a young girl and sent them to her auto electrician boyfriend while he was on a USA road trip to celebrate his birthday. 

Another saw Taylor taking pictures of an 11-year-old girl getting undressed in a swimming pool changing room and touching her over her bikini bottoms. 

The couple, who blamed being in a ‘low ebb’ after their marriages broke down’, also planned to have sex with a five-year-old they knew.  

They were arrested after downloading 5,035 lurid pictures of youngsters off the internet including 1044 in the most serious category A images. 

The pair were both convicted of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, sexual assault of a child under 13, taking and making indecent photographs of a child and encouraging the commission of sex offences. 

Burlingham was also convicted of assault and distributing indecent photographs.

Taylor was handed 15 years in prison, while Burlingham was ordered to serve 11. 

Both were ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register and be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life. 

Prosecutors said Taylor, who worked for a car dealership in Merseyside, was the ‘prime mover’ – manipulating Burlingham into carrying out the vile acts.  

At Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, the five year old boy’s mother condemned Burlingham as she and Taylor were convicted of a string of sex offences.   

The five-year-old boy’s mother told the court: ‘I was there for Keeli and she was there for me.

‘I felt she was my friend and yet she has committed the ultimate betrayal, I found it hard to understand that she could do something like that. 

‘I could understand if she wanted to harm me but she wanted to target the most important person in my life, my son.

‘I see her as two people – the previous friend and a monster. I struggle to trust anyone now. 

‘To me both of them have hurt me too much but it was the betrayal from Keeli that hurts the most.

‘I didn’t understand what hatred was before this but I understand now. I have never been so angry in my life I don’t think I can get over this or let this lie. 

‘The only solace I have is that they are in prison and my child and other children are now safe.’

The court heard the pair met on a dating website in 2016 after both breaking up with their respective spouses.

Prosecutor Michael Scholes said: ‘Throughout their relationship they downloaded indecent images of children for their personal sexual gratification.

‘Taylor is a man who obtains sexual gratification from downloading such images it is obvious he was the prime mover although it is clear from the chat logs we all had the dubious pleasure of having to consider that Keeli Burlingham obtained sexual stimulation from viewing those too.’

He said Burlingham and Taylor were babysitting a three-year-old girl when she began molesting her at his behest and used a mobile phone to film the assaults. 

A second girl aged 11 known to the pair was targeted after Taylor became ‘obsessed’ with her.

The prosecutor said: ‘The chat logs make it clear that Taylor became sexually obsessed with the girl and the logs demonstrate he manipulated Keeli to assist in his desire to obtain images of her without her knowledge using a camera or photographic device.

‘Chat logs disclosed that on at least one occasion images including still and moving images were obtained of the child. 

‘As the police were to discover many months after the event Taylor boasted of having sexually assaulted the girl without her knowledge – an assault which occurred while he touched her over her bikini bottoms when she was at a swimming pool.

‘The chat logs demonstrated an obsession and desire for Taylor to sexually abuse the child and have intercourse with her. 

‘In fact the defendants planned for that event and there was messaging of a similar nature discussing sexual activity with other friends of the girl.

‘This related to a sleepover, a sinister aspect is these messages included references to giving children sleeping tablets – it referred to children plural.’

‘On one occasions Taylor was on a ‘road trip’ in August 2017 to celebrate his birthday in the USA. 

‘Whilst he was in the US Keeli was staying with a friend over a period of several days. 

‘But whilst he was in the US it was clear from the chat logs that he pestered and manipulated Burlingham to obtain indecent images of the friend’s daughter.

‘Keeli Burlingham was taking care of the girl whilst her mother was at work. She sexually assaulted her and took a number of images of the assault. 

‘It is clear Taylor was seeking to manipulate Keeli Burlingham to do his bidding the assault was encouraged by him in his messages sent from the US.

‘The images of the assault were sent immediately to Taylor in the US by Burlingham.

‘They also planned to obtain access to a boy for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity with him. Fortunately, the sexual ambitions never went beyond the planning stage.’ 

Taylor was arrested in April 2019 and admitted downloading indecent images. 

He claimed he was seeking help and he had ‘seen the error of his ways’ although prosecutors said he was ‘deceiving police in relation to the true picture’ in the hope further investigation would not be pursued.

Sentencing Judge Mark Savill said: ‘You Burlingham were living an entirely unremarkable existence with a failed marriage and suffering from a degree of depression and low self esteem. 

Taylor you appeared to be a respectable member of the community. However you were concealing a dark secret – a revolting sexual attraction to young children of both sexes that was lying dormant prior to you meeting Burlingham.

‘As your relationship progressed role play began as Taylor requested Burlingham fulfil the role of a schoolgirl. 

‘I have no doubt that that served to heighten both your sexual enjoyment. What two individuals get up to in the privacy of their own homes isn’t usually a matter for these courts but these matters spiralled out of control and you both embarked on far more serious, sinister criminal behaviour.

‘The evidence I heard was base and vile and I recall the upset and concern shown by the jury during the trial. 

‘You Taylor encouraged these acts you were manipulative of Burlingham, you Burlingham while pathetically keen to attain his affections nevertheless went along willingly and enthusiastically not only to satisfy him but also yourself.

‘The actions of both of you were outrageous and abhorrent and involved the most precious members of our society – its children. 

‘While most of the children are never likely to appreciate what was done to them I have in mind their parents who will have to deal with and suppress these events throughout their life.’

Women sexually abused schoolboy

A women sexually abused a schoolboy after she seduced him over a game of strip poker.

Janice Higgins, then 33 and a married mother-of-two, sexually abused a 13-year-old boy at her home after she met him through a relative’s friendship group.

On one occasion she coerced the boy into sexual intercourse whilst she was sat on a chest freezer in her garden shed whilst her unsuspecting husband Jimmy was at the pub playing darts.

She also kissed and cuddled him whenever he babysat her children and sometimes when Mr Higgins, a tip worker, had gone to bed.

The abuse took place between 1993 and 1995 only stopped when the unnamed lad feared being teased at school after a friend found out about it.

He denied an affair to friends and kept it as a secret due to be embarrassed — but went to police last year claiming the fling had left him suicidal and led him to take drugs.

At Bolton Crown Court, Higgins, now 60, of Tyldesley, near Wigan, Greater Manchester broke down in tears as she admitted gross indecency and indecent assault.

She was sentenced to two years jail suspended for 24 months after claiming the affair began after her husband was being abusive towards her.

Higgins was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. It is thought she and her husband are no longer together.

The incidents occurred after the victim became part of a friendship group one of whom was a relative of Higgins.

Prosecutor David Polglase said: “She would have known he was aged 13 at the time due to the fact that he was wearing a school uniform.

“She made a suggestion to the complainant that they should play strip poker.

“He admitted he enjoyed the flirty attention. She was deliberately losing the game.

“She began by removing her top and he remembers her wearing a white sports bra, and he explains he got excited.

”They played another game and then she lost on purpose and exposed her breasts.

“There was a touching of her breast at her request in passing if he wanted to touch them. This lasted a few minutes.”

In a victim personal statement read to the court, the victim, now 39, said: “This happened a long time ago and has had a massive effect on me.

“Following this I was in and out of the care system. I didn’t know what path my life would take.

“I had bad days and I had an addiction to alcohol and drugs lasting years.

“I started smoking cannabis after the sexual offending happened and that developed to me taking heroin.

“I became paranoid and anxious.”

Woman jailed for sexual assaults

A woman has been jailed for eight years and six months for a series of non-recent sexual assaults which took place more than three decades ago in North Somerset.

The assaults happened in the late 1980s at the former home of the offender Delena Wells – Old Rose Cottage in Norton’s Wood Lane, Clevedon.

The two victims were vulnerable, due to their age – between 13-15 at the time.

Wells, now aged 72, encouraged one boy to drink alcohol and live life without rules. She watched a pornographic film with him before indecently assaulting him. She continued to abuse him frequently over many months.

A vulnerable teenager had put his trust in Wells. She repaid him by repeatedly and systematically sexually abusing him.

She also exerted a controlling influence over the victim – instead of providing support – threatening the boy that he would get into trouble with the police if he reported the assaults to anyone.

The other boy was also indecently assaulted during a visit to Wells’ cottage in Clevedon after being given alcohol – an incident which has troubled him all his adult life.

After sentencing, His Honour Judge Horton awarded the investigating officer, DC Stephen Milkins, a Crown Court Commendation.

Wells showed no remorse or regret
