Christchurch man jailed after being caught in paedophile hunter sting

A man has been jailed for nearly five years after encouraging a fictional 12-year-old girl to abuse her seven-year-old sister.

Andrew Gidley (29), of Dairy Close, sent crude messages to what was, in reality, an adult member of a paedophile hunter group, Bournemouth Crown Court heard.

Sending him down, Judge Robert Pawson said Gidley had “taken leave of his senses” during the offending period between March and August 2019.

Prosecutor Peter Wright said the defendant initiated the chat over a social networking site before it transferred on to the Kik message app.

He engaged with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl called Mollie Spencer who was, in fact, a fake profile created to catch paedophiles.

Gidley’s conversation “quickly turned sexual”, Mr Wright said, and he sent her pictures of himself and his genitalia as well as a video of an adult woman performing a sex act on him.

The defendant went on to encourage the child to perform sex acts on herself.

By the end of their chat he moved on to telling the fictional girl to perform sex acts on her younger sister while she was asleep.

But on 16th August he was confronted on his doorstep by members of the paedophile hunter group.

He was arrested and confessed to his offending when interviewed by police.

He appeared at court having admitted three charges: two of attempting to incite a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity and another of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Judge Pawson noted Gidley had told probation his motivations in committing the offence were not sexual – which the judge said was “nonsense”.

Gidley had been assessed as low risk and committed the offences at a time when his life was “drifting”, the judge said, but it involved the “corruption of a younger sibling”.

He sent Gidley down for four years and eight months, ordered he sign the sex offenders’ register for life, and gave him a 15-year sexual harm prevention order.

Bournemouth man who distributed indecent child images is jailed

A pervert who was caught with 71 indecent images and distributed a further 43 images, some including children as young as three, told police he “stumbled across the images” and was collecting more before sending the matter to the police.

Ian Hardwick, 54, of Bath Road, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images, three counts of distributing images, one count of possessing extreme porn, depicting bestiality, and three counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday.

Prosecuting, Alec Williams said: “These offences came to light as a result of an investigation which began when a member of a national crime agency posing as an adult on social media Kik.

“An engagement began with this defendant who had the username Really Bad Monkey.

“Mr Hardwick began a conversation about the abuse of children which triggered a search warrant to be undertaken of Mr Hardwick’s address.”

Officers found 27 images of category A, the worst category, 25 of which were moving, 13 images of category B, 11 of which were moving and 31 images of category C, four of which were moving.

They also found the defendant had distributed at least 43 images, five of which were category A, two moving and with children as young as three.

Mr Williams added: “He was arrested, interviewed and over the course of that interview gave an account he had initially stumbled across indecent images and was so concerned he was looking to collect more so he could bring the matter to the police.”

Some of the messages sent to the children, who weren’t actually real, including telling an 11-year-old she couldn’t get pregnant if she was on her period and that he wanted to involve her mother in sexual activity.

Judge Robert Pawson sentenced Hardwick to a total of 30 months in prison.

“I have got no doubt whatsoever you have a sexual interest in children, there is no other explanation for what you did,” Judge Pawson said.

“The behaviour was depraved and utterly cynical. Had the sentence been 24 months I would not have suspended it.”

Hardwick was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely.

Mark Pidgley jailed at Bournemouth Crown Court for two years for taking secret images of young girl

A Christchurch man who took hundreds of clandestine images of a young girl has been jailed for two years.

Mark Pidgley (46), of Portfield Close, shared 46 of the images he took with other users on the Kik mobile phone app and made comments about the victim, Bournemouth Crown Court heard.

In one message the former fence company worker said he had “not f***ed” her “yet”, prosecutor Stuart Ellacott said.

Police became aware of the sharing of other generic abuse images and investigated, Mr Ellacott said, leading them to Pidgley – who initially claimed he had shared such images to “trap” other people on the internet who might have an unhealthy interest in children.

However, officers eventually uncovered the 316 images he had taken of the young victim – who cannot be named for legal reasons.

In a second police interview Pidgley came clean about his offending.

At court the defendant admitted 10 charges; four related to the girl while the other six related to generic abuse images he shared or distributed via the Kik app. The generic images featured children as young as one, Mr Ellacott added.

Judge Brian Forster rebuffed suggestions by Mr Hoarder that a suspended sentence or community term accompanied by rehabilitation could be considered.

“Unfortunately I cannot do so because the facts of this case are shocking and serious,” he said.

As well as the jail term, he gave Pidgley a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, banned him from contacting the victim indefinitely and ordered the related devices be destroyed.

Jack Larcombe – Bridport

March 2016

Jack Larcombe given community order for sexually assaulting a teenage girl

A man has been handed a community order for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Jack Larcombe, also known as Jack Wilson, appeared at Dorchester Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting the charge of assault by penetration.

Prosecutor Stuart Ellacott told the court that the offence related to an incident involving a 17-year-old girl on August 6, 2014, when the defendant was aged 18.

Mr Ellacott said Larcombe, now 20, had been invited back to the victim’s address but she was on medication at the time and was not sleeping well at night so ended up lying down on the floor

In a basis of plea Larcombe, of Castle Square, Bridport, admitted the girl had not consented to the sexual activity that then took place, but stated she was awake the whole time although she “appeared distant towards the defendant”.

Mr Ellacott said after he was challenged by the girl, he left asking her not to tell anyone.

She also claimed he later contacted her by telephone and threatened to beat her up if she told anyone what had happened.

The defendant was interviewed in relation to the incident more than a year later.

He told police he did not remember having been to the victim’s address or having any sexual contact with her.

However, when the case came to court he entered a guilty plea.

In a victim impact statement the girl said: “I wish he had said something sooner to save me all the extra pain I had to go through.”

Jamie Porter, mitigating, told the court: “This is a young man with Asperger’s who has misread a situation.

“This is as much as misjudgement of the situation as it is a non consensual touching.”

Judge Jonathan Fuller told the defendant: “The error of your ways is clear, and that is that you entirely misjudged and assumed quite wrongly that she was consenting to what you were doing when she wasn’t and this must have been a very frightening thing for the young lady.”

Judge Fuller sentenced Larcombe to a community order of 24 months, with a supervision requirement and specified activity requirement.

The defendant was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
