Wolverhampton paedophile with secret bank accounts finally rumbled by police while in TSB queue

A twisted paedophile had a trio of secret bank accounts he hid from police, a court has heard.

Paul Miller, from the West Midlands but now living in Wales, was required to declare any accounts he had to the cops

That was under the terms of his release following being convicted of serious sexual offending against young girls.

A court has heard the 61-year-old Black Country man opened three TSB accounts.

He was accused of repeatedly lied to police about their existence, only being busted when an off-duty offender manager saw him in a queue at a bank and raised the alarm.

The court heard Miller believes the restrictions he has to abide by because he’s a registered sex offender are “unfair” and the police are persecuting him.

In 2009 Miller was sentenced to five years in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court for historical sexual offences involving two young girls, one aged just five.

He was released in 2012 and subsequently moved to Aberystwyth.

An off-duty offender manager saw Miller waiting in a queue at the TSB bank in Aberystwyth and raised the alarm.

Police subsequently discovered he had three accounts with the bank.

When interviewed he told officers he had had the accounts since 2017.

Paul David Miller, of Bow Street, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, had previously pleaded guilty to breaching notification requirements when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.

Miller was sentenced to six months in prison.

He will serve half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.

Videos of child abuse ‘depraved beyond belief’ among 1.7m images found on man’s computer

A man was caught with more than 420,000 pictures and videos of child sexual abuse – and a staggering 1.3m further images police did not check or categorise.

The ages of the children involved ranged from babies just a few months old up to teenagers.

Officers also found William Field had sold thousands of indecent images to a sex offender for £200.

Sending the 54-year-old to prison a judge told the defendant some of the images he had collected were “depraved beyond belief”.

Swansea Crown Court heard the offending came to light when police executed a search warrant at Field’s home in May 2020.

Sophie Hill, prosecuting, said the the defendant was not present for the search but officers seized a number of electronic devices from his property. A preliminary examination of the devices – known as “triaging” – showed the presence of indecent images. Officers went to the defendant’s place of work and arrested him.

The court heard Field told police he had “thousands of images” but in fact officers were to uncover a “vast quantity” of pictures and videos totalling more than 1.7m in number.

Miss Hill said police viewed and categorised 424,401 indecent images with 4,307 in Category A – showing the most extreme kinds of abuse – another 4,328 in Category B, and 415,766 in Category C. She said officers uncovered another 1.3m images but did not view or categorise them.

The prosecutor said the Category A images featured babies up to children aged three and as an example of the kind of material involved one of the videos showed an obviously distressed boy aged between 12 and 24 months being subjected to “sadomasochistic acts” including rape and defecation .

The oldest children being exploited featured in the Category C images and they were estimated to be aged from 11 to 15 years.

Police also found images of so-called adult “extreme pornography” on the defendant’s devices which showed acts of bestiality with a dog. The images had been downloaded over a 10-year period.

Miss Hill said officers found evidence Field had actively searched online for indecent images including making extensive use of a Tor internet browser which allowed him to access files from the dark web.

The court heard that the month after Dyfed-Powys Police arrested Field the force was contacted by colleagues in Bedfordshire Police who told them about communications they had uncovered between the defendant and a man they had arrested called Jamie McPherson.

The prosecutor said the two men had discussed child sexual abuse and McPherson had sent Field a computer hard drive onto which he uploaded indecent images before posting it back. She said officers found more than 55,000 images of child abuse on the hard drive of Categories A, B, and C and another 98,000 images they had not checked. Field was paid £200 by McPherson for the images with the transaction confirmed in a text message between the pair.

William John Field, of Queen Street, Aberystwyth, had previously pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing indecent images of children of Categories A, B, and C and to possessing extreme pornography when the appeared in the dock for sentencing.

He has eight previous convictions for 13 offences though none are of a like nature.

Judge Paul Thomas QC said the haul of images found on Field’s computers was the largest he had encountered during his 25 years sitting in the crown court.

He said the Category A images the defendant downloaded showed abuse that was “depraved beyond belief” and he told Field that his desire to masturbate over such images “fuels the evil trade” in indecent images.

He added that he wondered whether the councillor who wrote the reference was aware of the nature of images Field had been collecting.

Following the sentencing guidelines and giving the defendant the required one-third discount for his guilty pleas the judge sentenced him to two years and four months in prison.

Field will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence under the UK government’s early release scheme.

The defendant will be on the sex offenders register for the next 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order to control his access to the internet for the same length of time.

Pervert booked taxi and ‘bought lube’ for meeting with 15-year-old boy

A man spent weeks engaged in highly sexual conversations with someone he believed to be a schoolboy, a court has heard.

Paul Nixon sent incident photos and videos and hundreds of messages to the person who was in fact an adult posing as a 15-year-old boy.

Nixon discussed meeting the child for sex and on two occasions went so far as to book taxis to get him to the proposed rendezvous in Carmarthen before cancelling the arrangements.

Swansea Crown Court heard the offending took place in September and October of 2019 after the 42-year-old defendant contacted a profile on the networking and dating website Grindr.

Robin Rouch, prosecuting, said there was no age shown on the profile but in initial conversations the person running it told Nixon he was a 15-year-old boy. The court heard the pair exchanged numbers and began messaging each other on WhatsApp.

The prosecutor said from early on in the conversation it was made clear the respondent was aged 15 but “that did not deter him [Nixon] from sending a picture of himself in his underpants”.

Over the following weeks some 900 WhatsApp messages were exchanged along with dozens of texts with Nixon telling the ‘boy’ he wanted to kiss and cuddle him and wanted sex.

The pair discussed meeting in Carmarthen for sex but on both occasions they planned to meet Nixon cancelled his taxis ahead of time and made excuses about why they could not get together.

The court heard the defendant told the decoy he had “bought lube” and would be “gentle” with him and he sent the supposed teenager a series of indecent and intimate photos and videos of himself. He asked for similar material in return.

Nixon also told the 15-year-old to delete the messages and pictures because the defendant said he would get into trouble if they were to be discovered.

On October 10 the person running the decoy went to the police with copies of the messages and the following day Nixon was arrested at home and his electronic devices were seized.

Nixon, of Rhydlewis, Ceredigion, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child under 16 and to attempting to meet a child under 16 following sexual grooming. He has one previous conviction for a drink-driving matter.

Giving the defendant a 25% discount for his guilty pleas the judge sentenced him to 30 months in prison. Nixon will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.

The defendant was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Ian Davies – Ponterwyd

Rapist brought to justice more than 30 years later

A rapist has been brought to justice more than 30 years after he committed his appalling crimes.

Ian Paul Davies had denied the allegations made by a grown up woman and man, who recently told police he had abused them when they were children.

But juries in two trials found him guilty of the offences, which date back to when he was a teenager the 1980s, and he was jailed for 12 years.

The 53-year-old, of Maes y Awel in Ponterwyd near Aberystwyth, was told by a judge at Caernarfon crown court that it “was not a case of one-off, youthful sexual experimentation”.

Judge Nicola Jones told him: “You should and would have been aware of what you were doing and that it was wrong.”

Davies had denied raping one of the children, a young girl, in the early 1980s when he was aged between 14 and 16, but was found guilty by a jury after a trial at Caernarfon Crown Court earlier this year.

The jury had cleared Davies of one charge of sexual assault at that trial.

But jurors were unable to agree on verdicts relating to the other child and a second trial was held at Mold Crown Court last month.

That resulted in the guilty verdicts.

The other victim, a young boy, was repeatedly assaulted by Davies, who was aged between 15 and 19 at the time of the offences.

Prosecutor John Philpotts summarised the Victim Personal Statements made by Davies’ victims.

He said the boy tried to put the abuse behind him but suffered from flashbacks and periods of depression and had contemplated harming himself on several occasions.

The girl, added the barrister, said she did not know why Davies had abused her and had tried to “block it all out” and hide it.

Defence counsel Simon Rogers said Davies, who had no relevant previous convictions, would be serving his first custodial sentence and would find it difficult.

He pointed out if he had been charged at the time of the offences he would have served no more than two years in detention.

Mr Rogers added Davies’ partner of 27 years had supported him throughout the case.

Davies was said to have told the two complainants, who cannot be named, not to tell anyone about what he had done to them.

The matters came to light during the summer of 2017 when the male made a complaint to police. The woman also gave police a statement.

Giving evidence in his defence Davies said he could think of no reason why the two would make the allegations against him. He said none of the allegations were true.

The judge noted from the reports before her that Davies maintained his innocence.

Davies was told he will spend two thirds of the sentence in prison before being released.

The judge extended his licence period for a year but did not make a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

She said that was not necessary as the offences had taken place in the 1980s and there had been no repetition.

Mid Wales man sentenced after sexually assaulting horses

A Mid Wales man has admitted causing unnecessary suffering to two horses after sexually assaulting them with a paintbrush.

Peter Bourne, 33, of Cliff Road, Borth, was caught on CCTV on September 19, 2019, approaching two horses – named Hannah and Urani – from behind, before sexually assaulting them.

Video footage then showed Bourne – who is a company director of a holiday lettings business – sniffing the paintbrush he had used in the sex attack.

The pervert’s interference with the horses last year was confirmed by vets to have caused both animals to suffer unnecessarily.

He was sentenced at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday, July 29) – and was handed an eight-year ban from keeping all animals, and may not appeal this ban for a period of three years.

Bourne must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work, and was told to pay £300 in costs, a £90 victim surcharge and £150 compensation to each of the two horse owners.

RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben said: “Hannah and Urani are two horses who have been put through a horrific ordeal, which this individual must reasonably have known would cause them suffering.

“Fortunately, CCTV footage meant we could detect these crimes and take action.

“It must have been exceptionally distressing, too, for the horse’s owners to know a man targeted and interfered with these animals in such a manner. Thankfully, we have secured justice for the suffering these horses were caused by this man’s actions.”

The two horses have recovered from the incident and remain with their two owners.

Sue Neville, owner of Hannah, said: “This has been such an emotional time for me, and the whole family. It was such a disturbing incident, that was really the last thing we expected to happen.

“If it wasn’t for the RSPCA, we would have been completely lost. They have helped secure justice for Hannah; and have been supportive and amazing throughout.

“We’ve moved house on the back of this incident, to protect our horse. It’s caused us a great deal of anxiety and worry.

“Hannah was always such a friendly and trusting horse; but she is now nervous and anxious to strangers. We are just so relieved justice has been served.”

Urani’s owner Pippa Wells added: “It’s been a really difficult time for us – and this is certainly not something you’d ever expect to happen.

“Without the RSPCA taking this forward, we wouldn’t have secured justice for Urani. This has totally transformed my opinion of the work of the RSPCA.

“Fortunately, Urani is now fine – but this is obviously something no horse should have to face. Thankfully, a positive outcome was secured at court.”
