Covid 19 claims life of depraved paedophile
A convicted paedophile who carried out a string of sex attacks on young girls has died after testing positive for coronavirus.
Alwyn George Evans from Pontygwaith was serving an indeterminate sentence at HMP Usk, Maryport Street, Usk, when he began exhibiting symptoms of the virus,
Evans was jailed for 18 months in 2005 for five counts of indecent assault on a female under the age of 14. Five years later, he was again behind bars for five counts of assault by penetration.
In the latter, he was convicted of rape, 16 counts of indecent assault and five of indecency with a child between 1998 and 2003.
Two girls, one aged between eight and 11 and the other between seven and 12, were subjected to a campaign of serious sexual assault by Evans.
At an inquest opening hearing on Monday, a coroner heard 75-year-old Evans tested positive for Covid-19 and was taken to Neville Hall Hospital on April 14, 2020.
Coroners’ court officer Paul Richardson said the inmate refused to be ventilated and died on April 17.
His medical cause of death was given as Covid-19 contributed to by pneumoconiosis.

Sex assault on teen
A pervert has been jailed for four years after admitting sexually assaulting a young teenager.
Lyndon Nash, aged 50, of Maesteg Road, Tonteg, was banned from working with children and will not be allowed to have any child under the age of 16 in his home unless an adult is present.
Nash pleaded guilty to two sexual assaults. The girl’s ordeal only ended when she threatened to tell her mother.
When confronted with the allegation he initially said the sexual contact was consensual but later admitted what he had done.
Ieuan Morris, prosecuting at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, said: “It was a frightening ordeal.”
The incident only came to light when the girl, who kept her eyes shut through the incident, told her mother about Nash’s actions, believing that she could have been pregnant.
Police had to force their way into his home after he had taken a variety of medication.
When Nash was confronted he said that it was impossible the girl was pregnant.
Marion Lewis, defending, told the court Nash did not have an attraction to child porn nor a history of sexual fantasies and was racked with guilt over his actions.
But Ms Lewis said Nash, who lived with his parents, had suffered a depressive illness from unresolved grief following the death of his mother.
“He is deeply conscious of what he has done and the effect upon her and her family,” said Ms Lewis.
Jailing Nash for four years, having to serve at least half his sentence before being eligible for parole which will be determined by the Home Secretary, the judge said his actions would have a lasting effect on the girl.
He will also have to register as a sex offender.

Paedophile hunters snare man who travelled to meet girl, 13, ‘to take her virginity’
A man who tried to meet up with a schoolgirl so he could ‘take her virginity’ has been jailed after she turned out to be a decoy set up by a group of paedophile hunters.
Terrence Jenkins, 50, spent the week before his arrest grooming what he though was a 13-year-old he’d met on social media.
Despite being aware of her young age the messages quickly became ‘highly sexualised’, with Jenkins sending the ‘teen’ intimate photos, requesting she post some in return and discussing various sex acts he wanted to perform.
After warning her not to tell her family about the chats they arranged to meet in a McDonald’s carpark with Jenkins telling her to bring condoms along, adding: ‘You won’t be a virgin tomorrow.’
However, there was no schoolgirl and the profile had been set up by members of a group of paedophile hunters who were waiting to confront him.
Swansea Crown Court heard how Facebook and Badoo accounts had been created by the Elusive Child Protection Unit complete with an ‘age-appropriate’ photo.
Jenkins made contact the following day, July 17. When he got to the rendezvous three days later he was met by members of the group before police were called and he was arrested.
Jenkins, of Maerdy, Rhondda, admitted attempted sexual communications with a child and attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming.
He was jailed for a total of 14 months, made subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register for the same period.
Judge Geraint Walters said it was clear Jenkins had groomed what he believed was a young girl with a view to ‘taking her virginity’ and described his thought processes as ‘hugely disturbing’. ‘I have not a shadow of a doubt that had this been an actual 13-year-old girl you would have carried out what you said you wanted,’ he said.
The judge said such cases were becoming ‘disturbingly common’ and the message needed to be heard that people who engaged in similar activity would be found, prosecuted, and sent to prison.
