Postman who filmed himself sexually abusing young girl caught as cops find 100,000 indecent images at Midlothian home

A perverted postman who filmed himself sexually abusing a girl was caught when police discovered the footage and 100,000 indecent images of children he had downloaded.

Kenneth Lothian made several recordings of himself carrying out the sick sex attacks on the vulnerable teenager over a 12-month period at his home in Newtongrange, Midlothian.

The vile homemade movies showed the 52-year-old beast sexually assaulting the girl and forcing her to touch his private parts while he watched porn.

The footage was discovered earlier this year when cops were tipped off about Lothian’s stash and raided his home.

Shocked police officers discovered a total of 99,517 still images of children being sexually abused along with 8,717 videos hidden away on two devices.

Lothian’s huge stash of child abuse included movies depicting infants being raped as well as footage of older children also being abused.

The depraved postie pleaded guilty to possessing the large number of images and videos and to using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards, and to engaging in sexual activity with the teenager when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Descriptions of Lothian’s vile behaviour left many people in the public gallery so shocked when they were read out in open court that several were forced to leave the court room in distress.

Fiscal depute Heather Carmichael told the court police arrived at Lothian’s home he shares with his partner at around 3.30pm on April 18 this year after receiving intelligence about downloaded images.

She said Lothian pulled an officer aside and confessed he had been “downloading and looking at images” and his partner “knew nothing about it”.

The prosecutor added a laptop and a hard drive were seized and the massive amount of child abuse pictures and movies were found hidden away on them.

The court was stood there were 2436 pictures and 2929 videos at Category A which is at the most depraved end of the spectrum.

During the police investigation officers then found six videos and five pictures of Lothian sexually abusing the teenage girl at his home.

The images were found to be have taken on occasions between 2010 and 2011 and showed Lothian abusing the girl who was described as having “learning difficulties and health problems”.

Police traced the girl, who is now an adult, and she told officers about some of the sordid acts Lothian carried out.

Sheriff Norman McFadyen placed Lothian on the sex offenders register for a term still to be determined and deferred sentence to next month for reports and a risk assessment to be prepared.

Lothian pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children at his home between September 21, 2010 and April 18 this year.

He also admitted using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards a child by rubbing, penetrating and kissing her vagina, exposing his penis and instructing her to touch his penis, remove her clothes and watch pornography in her presence between September 21 and November 30, 2010.

Lothian also admitted carrying out the same activity with the girl between December 1, 2010 and September 20, 2011.

A high risk paedophile who raped a schoolgirl as his wife filmed the horrific abuse has been jailed for 10 and a half years.

Damien and Mary McCann preyed on the victim who was as young as ten at the time of her ordeal.

A judge heard Mary McCann “encouraged” her sick husband’s attacks – which only ended when police swooped after a tip-off.

Despite being arrested and charged, Damien McCann, 35, claimed the girl was “happy” during the attacks.

He has been jailed after admitting raping the girl between May 2016 and January 2019 at a house in Dalkeith, Midlothian.

Mary McCann, 39, also faced the accusations, but she took her own life in January 2020, the High Court in Glasgow was told at a previous hearing last month.

Police raided the couple’s home initially in connection with an indecent images probe.

A mobile phone and laptop were seized and McCann admitted that he used the “dark web” to look up “extreme pornography”.

However, officers went on to uncover footage of the horrific abuse of the girl and McCann was identified due to his “distinctive tattoos”.

Prosecutor Angela Gray said: “A female voice – identified as Mary McCann – can be heard encouraging him.”

Detectives went on to find a total of 20 vile clips of McCann raping the girl with the “majority” filmed by his wife.

Damien McCann confessed to the abuse when quizzed by police.

Miss Gray added: “He confirmed that he and his wife shared the videos with each other via WhatsApp and that they would watch together for sexual gratification.

“Damien McCann confirmed that he is sexually attracted to the girl. He described her as looking ‘happy’ when he raped her.”

It also emerged Damien McCann had sexually assaulted another young child including when she was sleeping.

He also pled guilty to that as well as admitting the possession and distribution of indecent images.

McCann further admitted having more than 200 video clips and photos of what was described as “extreme pornography”.

He returned to court to face justice and a judge told him: “Child rape is always an extremely serious offence and here I consider there are factors which rendered your conduct even worse.”

During a sentencing hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lady Scott said: “It is difficult to envisage the degree of damage you have caused to your victim.

“For your ongoing sexual gratification you videoed these rapes and sexual abuse. Over 20 recordings of these videos were recovered. The videos are planned and graphic.”

The judge pointed out that McCann had gone on to create musical soundtracks and added titles to recordings and shared images with his partner.

Lady Scott told McCann that he would have faced a 14-year jail sentence but for his guilty pleas.

The judge also ordered that he be kept under supervision for a further three year period and warned that if he breached licence conditions during it he can be recalled to prison.

He was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for an indefinite period.

The court heard that McCann’s wife could be heard encouraging him in a recovered recording , saying: “Tell her how much she will like it.”

McCann earlier admitted assaulting and raping the girl between May 2016 and January 2019 with his wife filming the conduct and verbally encouraging him.

He also admitted possessing and making the indecent recordings and distributing material.

The sex offender also pled guilty to possessing a cache of videos and images of extreme pornography, including bestiality.

McCann further pled guilty to assaulting a six month old baby girl at a house in Edinburgh between December 2018 and January 2019 by putting his naked erect penis beside her face with photographs being taken.

Advocate depute Eric Robertson said the abuse came to light after police received intelligence about indecent images being uploaded to the internet. During a search of McCann’s former home in Dalkeith officers recovered a laptop and mobile phone.

Following his arrest he said he had looked at a lot of pornography and had accessed the dark web to look for extreme materiel.

The court heard that McCann could be identified in video recordings that were discovered from distinctive tattoos. He told police that the girl looked “happy” when he raped her.

McCann, who has previous convictions for violence, but not for sexual offending, has now been assessed as presenting a high risk of sexual re-offending.

‘Despicable’ rapist who attacked student as she walked home from a party in Edinburgh is jailed for six years

A man who raped a student as she walked home from a party has been jailed for six years.

Steven Davidson, 24, targeted the lone female as she made her way across in the Meadows in Edinburgh in the early hours of the morning.

The “despicable” attack happened on November 15, 2014 when Davidson grabbed the 19-year-old from behind and forced her to the ground.

He ran off during a struggle but was later traced and linked to the rape by DNA evidence.

The victim said: “I could not speak or breathe. I started to fight. It was a struggle for life.”

She said her attacker choked her again and she passed out. When she came round he was attacking her.

Davidson, from Newtongrange, Midlothian, was arrested by officers a month after the attack.

Convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on January 20, he has been sentenced to six years in prison and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Sex offender jailed after breaching Prevention Order in Galashiels

A 26-year-old man who was found in the company of a three year old child at a house in Galashiels which breached the terms of his Sexual Offences Prevention Order has been jailed for 125 days.

Sandy Ross of Braeside Road North, Gorebridge, pleaded guilty at Jedburgh Sheriff Court to the offence which happened on March 18.

The jail sentence was back-dated to April 4.

Stock car racer jailed for Dalkeith sexual abuse

A teenage stock car racer who sexually assaulted two young girls has been jailed for three years and nine months.

James Dillon (18), raped and abused one little girl on various occasions between October 2014 and October 2016 at a house in Dalkeith.

The High Court in Livingston heard how she was just eight-years-old when Dillon started the abuse against her.

The sportsman also subjected another eight-year-old girl to two sexual assaults, also in Dalkeith, between September 2014 and September 2015

Dillon, of Edinburgh, denied any wrong doing at a trial. But jurors convicted him of rape and sexual assault charges.

He was jailed following a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Dillon competes in stock car racing and is part of the Mayfield Mob team with his father, who is also called James.

He had denied raping one of the girls and also pled not guilty to sexually assaulting another child.

On August 30, a jury took just over four hours to return majority verdicts finding Dillon guilty of both charges.

Both girls gave evidence that he exposed himself to them in private before committing the sexual offences against them.

Passing sentence, Lord Summers also said he was following appeal court guidance in his sentencing of Dillon.
