Pervert spared jail after downloading hundreds of indecent pictures and videos of children

A pervert who downloaded hundreds of pictures and videos of young children has been spared jail after a judge decided the public would be better protected by him being managed in the community.

Bolton Crown Court heard how police found the indecent pictures after raiding 64-year-old Ernest Holme’s then home in Wilton Street, Bolton, on October 23, 2018.

Joshua Bowker, prosecuting, said electronic devices were seized and indecent images were found on two laptops, two computer towers and a memory card.

A total of 283 of the most serious category A images, including 129 videos were discovered as well as 219 in category B which included 57 videos and 982 category C images including 21 videos.

Investigators also found an illegal extreme pornographic moving image along with 14 other prohibited images of children.

Holme had been using a special peer to peer software application which allows file sharing between users.

“The age range of the children in the images is between six and 17-years-old,” said Mr Bowker.

After examining the computers police interviewed Holme.

“He admitted accessing the images but said he had done so through a need to investigate it before accepting he had done a very stupid thing,” said Mr Bowker.

Holme, now of Pinfold Close, Westhoughton pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of an extreme pornographic image and possessing 14 prohibited images of a child.

All the offences were committed between February 1, 2017 and October 23, 2018.

The Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Martin Walsh told Holme that, although his crime deserved a prison sentence, any period in jail would be short and the public could be better protected by him being supervised in the community for several years.

Holme was given a three year community sentence during which he will have to participate in 60 days of rehabilitation activities. He was put on the sex offenders’ register and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Judge Walsh told Holme: “These are not victimless crimes. Images showing abuse of children show abuse of real children.

“Those who download and use such images feed the trade in such noxious images.”

Paedophile jailed after sexually abusing four children

A paedophile has been jailed for more than two decades after he was found guilty of 21 separate offences on four children.

Dennis Johnson, of Manchester Road, from Westhoughton was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court to 22 years and six months imprisonment after being found guilty of offences including rape, sexual assault, actual bodily harm and witness intimidation.

He was also sentenced to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

The court heard how in September 2018 WMP received a report from social services that a girl under the age of 13 had disclosed that Johnson had been sexually touching her.

Shortly after this report, it was revealed that Johnson had abused two other girls between 1991 and 2004.

This abuse started when both girls were under the age of ten and continued until they were in their mid-teens.

Both girls were repeatedly sexually assaulted by Johnson. He also raped one of the girls on multiple occasions.

The court also heard Johnson had sexually abused a fourth child – a boy – in the 1990s.

Pervert caught saying he wanted to have sex with 12-year-old girl for £100

A pervert caught in a police sting discussing how he wanted to have sex with a 12-year-old girl claimed he was actually working as a paedophile hunter.

John Stone, 42, thought he was chatting online with a father, who was willing to ‘take turns’ having sex with his daughter in exchange for £100.

But Stone, from Salford, was actually speaking with an undercover officer who was posing as the dad in the disturbing chats.

Stone had responded to a message the officer posted on a chat room website, which has since been taken down from the internet, which read: “Any UK families up to meet me and daughter for fun?”

After being told the man was from the Midlands, Stone responded: “Do you ever come to Manchester, if so how old is your daughter and how much to play?”

They discussed ‘taking turns’ having sex with her, and Stone was told he should pay for a hotel room and pay the dad £100.

Stone asked: “Will she be willing to do this with a stranger? I don’t like the idea of force.”

He later said: “This would be my first time doing this, heart is racing.”

A meeting never happened, and Stone was later tracked down by police and arrested.

When police analysed his computer they also found 19 indecent images of children, as well as an extreme pornographic image.

During his interview with officers, Stone claimed he’d been acting as a paedophile hunter, and had been speaking to people to try and identify them.

But he accepted he’d not asked any questions to help identify the other person, and had made no reports.

Manchester Crown Court heard the chats lasted over a few days in August 2017.

The conversations stopped for months after the officer was ‘taken off deployment’ due to being on sick leave.

Stone had messaged the officer saying ‘guess this isn’t going to happen’, prosecutor Helen Longworth said.

The officer logged back in to the chat nearly a year later, and Stone was arrested in August 2019 after ‘technical enquiries’ were made.

He was charged last year after his computer had been interrogated.

The judge, Recorder Ben Douglas-Jones QC, said a suspended sentence would be a ‘significant punishment’.

It would help to rehabilitate Stone and ‘better protect the public’, he said.

Stone, of Church Street, Eccles, was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years.

He was ordered to complete 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and observe a curfew from 7pm to 6am for six months.

A sexual harm prevention order was also passed, to last seven years.

Pervert snared by paedophile hunters

A man who thought he was sending sexual messages to two schoolgirls was snared by “paedophile hunters”, a court heard.

Brian Fellows, of York Street, Leigh, appeared in the dock before a Bolton Crown Court judge to admit attempting to communicate with two named under-16s with the intention of obtaining sexual gratification.

The hearing was told that the “girls” were invited to the 32-year-old’s home, but on answering the door he was confronted by people who go after perverts who contact children for sex.

They handed their evidence over to the police and he was later arrested.

Fellows was remanded in custody until July 15 when he will be sentenced

Paedophile jailed after sex chats with undercover cops

A pervert who engaged in sexual conversations with undercover police officers believing them to be young girls has been jailed for 28 months.

Mohamed Adia, who lived at home with his elderly mother after his father was murdered in 2002, turned to chat rooms where he befriended 13-year-old Lucy and 12-year-old Ria.

But Bolton Crown Court heard that the schoolgirls were fictional characters created by police in chat rooms.

Over a two-month period from September 2019 51-year-old Adia asked the “girls” for photographs in their school uniforms and requested one take pictures at her school.

On other occasions he described in detail how Ria could perform a sex act upon herself and demanded, the next day, that she tell him about it.

Adia, of Quebec Street, Bolton, also wanted to know about their underwear and discussed arranging a meeting to have sex.

Julian Goode, prosecuting, told how police first encountered Adia, who was using the name Salim, when they created a profile for Lucy on Kik messenger and he added her to Skype.

He was made aware of Lucy’s age chat became increasingly sexualised and, at one stage told her, “I’m always horny”.

The court heard that Adia regularly told the girls to delete their conversations and not tell anyone about them.

In November 2019 he stopped sending messages and on January he was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to three counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and two of of attempting to have a sexual conversation with a child.

Judge Smith sentenced Adia to a 28 months in prison. He will be placed on the sex offenders’ register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
