Pensioner who thought he was sexting 12-year-old girl caught in police sting

 

A pensioner was arrested by police after he arranged to meet up with who he thought was a 12-year-old girl at the Bandstand in Caerphilly town centre.

William Anderson, 81, of Pembroke Court, Hendredenny, exchanged sexual text messages with a decoy called “Layla” who acted on behalf of a paedophile hunting team

Anderson told Layla she didn’t need to “worry about becoming pregnant” because he was infertile, and told her to keep their conversations secret.

He also asked her to send him topless pictures of herself on more than one occasion.

However, Layla was in fact a police decoy – not a 12-year-old girl. When Anderson arrived at the Bandstand to meet her, he was arrested by police.

Anderson appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, July 9 and was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The court heard how Anderson, using the username “BillCricket”, first spoke to the decoy on online chatroom Lycos, then later WhatsApp.

The conversation began on April 20. When Anderson was told by the decoy that she was just 12-years-old, he responded: “It’s a pity you’re so young.”

He also asked her if she had started having periods, and if he could touch her breasts and private parts.

He also suggested they could “sneak into the bushes and be alone together” and asked if she would be naked.

While he admitted the offences, he claimed he was not aroused by the coversations, and only wanted to meet with her to tell her they could no longer speak to each other.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.

Sentencing, Judge Christopher Vosper QC said: “There are a number of mitigating features in this case. You are 81, you have no previous convictions, I accept you are remorseful and before this you lived an exemplary life.”

Anderson was ordered to carry out 25 days rehabilitation activity requirement and was given a sexual harm prevention order for ten years.

Blackwood man jailed for torturing and mutilating hedgehog

A man who tortured and mutilated a hedgehog in a horrific attack which he carried out for his own “perverse pleasure” has been locked up.

Convicted killer Richard Coyle, 54, who was jailed for manslaughter in 2006, butchered the animal while homeless and living in a tent.

Police officers were called to woodland in Blackwood after neighbours heard blood-curdling screams, Newport Magistrates’ Court heard.

The cries turned out to be former solider Coyle mimicking the voice of a woman in distress and pleading for help.

Aled Watkins, prosecuting, said: “The facts are gruesome and they are troubling.

“We say this defendant has mutilated and tortured a live hedgehog.

“It is a serious and troubling case.”

Coyle tortured and butchered the harmless hedgehog. He slowly removed the animal’s legs and covered her head and eyes with molten wax.

Scissors, candles, a jump lead and a kitchen knife were discovered at the scene.

He said Coyle attracted attention after he mimicked the voice of a woman in distress and pleading for help.

Mr Watkins told the court: “During the early hours of the morning on August 27, 2019, PCs Lauren Lewis and James Goodman approached a tent off Highfields Way where the defendant was living.

“They could hear a female screaming, ‘Help me! Someone help me!’”

He said when the officers found the animal inside the tent they challenged Coyle about what he had done to the creature, to which he replied: “It’s only a ******* hedgehog! It’s got fleas.”

PC Goodman told the court: “We could hear screaming coming from the woodland. It sounded blood-curdling, like someone was being seriously hurt, killed, raped.

“It sounded like a female voice.”

He told of what he encountered when he went inside Coyle’s tent.

The officer said: “I could smell burning flesh, burning hair. Death. The hedgehog was mutilated. The smell was horrendous.”

The defendant was arrested and the animal, which was still alive, was taken to Valley Veterinary Hospital in Gwaelod Y Garth, Cardiff, where it was put to sleep.

Coyle, of Beech Avenue, Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, denied causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and mutilating a wild mammal with intent to inflict unnecessary suffering.

Judge Brown sent the defendant to prison for six months, the maximum sentence he could impose, and banned him from keeping animals for 10 years.

Former boxer Coyle was jailed for two years in 2006 after he admitted manslaughter.

Cardiff Crown Court heard then how he bullied and physically abused his alcoholic flatmate before killing him with a single punch.

His 35-year-old victim died in hospital from slow bleeding to the brain 18 days after his skull was fractured.

Caerphilly paedophile shared ‘cruel’ child abuse images 

A sex offender shared images of the “cruellest and most savage form of child abuse” with fellow paedophiles after his “addiction spiralled out of control”.

Joshua Eynon told detectives his obsession with watching adult pornography escalated and that he began searching for vile material involving children being sexually attacked and exploited.

Nigel Fryer, prosecuting, said Gwent Police raided the defendant’s home in Caerphilly county last November.

They found more than 60 category A, B and C images on a mobile phone and evidence he has been distributing filth to other paedophiles.

Construction worker Eynon, 29, of Hengoed Avenue, Cefn Hengoed, near Ystrad Mynach, pleaded guilty to the distribution of indecent photographs of children.

He also admitted possession of indecent photographs of children and possession of an extreme animal pornographic image involving a dog.

Mr Fryer said the defendant had a previous sexual offence conviction for flashing. He also had convictions for battery, affray and criminal damage.

Judge Richard Williams said Eynon had watched and distributed images of the “the cruellest and most savage form of child abuse. You said you had shared them with people who you described as like-minded.”

The judge said he was prepared to spare him immediate custody because “there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation”.

The defendant was jailed for 20 months, suspended for two years. He was ordered to complete 100 hours of a sex offender programme.

Eynon must also register as a sex offender and he was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

Llanelli paedophile jailed for 1970s Caerphilly offences

A paedophile who treated a young girl as his “sex toy” is starting a long prison sentence.

Stephen Evans, 58, was jailed for more than 10 years after a jury found him guilty of a catalogue of historical child abuse offences.

The defendant committed a string of sex offences during the 1970s and 1980s when he was living in Caerphilly county.

Evans, now of Bryn Rhos, Llanelli, was condemned by Judge Michael Fitton QC at Cardiff Crown Court.

He told him: “You corrupted and depraved your victim. You treated her as your sex toy.

“You knew the difference between right and wrong.”

Referring to the fact the defendant had denied the offences and taken the case to trial, the judge added: “You fought tooth and nail to avoid the truth.

“You bent her to your will. You wriggled and lied throughout the trial.

“You thought you were above the law.”

Evans was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and five counts of indecency with a child.

Prosecutor Clare Wilks told the court the defendant’s victim had suffered from depression following her terrible ordeal.

Nicola Powell, mitigating, said her client was a man of previous good character with no convictions recorded against him.

Evans was sent to prison for a total of 11 years and told he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Paedophile jailed over sex abuse in Caerphilly

A paedophile has been jailed for nine years after he was convicted of a string of sex offences.

Lee Pithers, 46, from Aberdare, committed a catalogue of crimes in the Caerphilly county area.

He was found guilty of 13 offences of sexual activity with a child and three counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Pithers was locked up by Judge Richard Williams at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.

Pithers will have to register as a sex offender for life.
