PERVERT GETS 3 YEARS FOR ATTACK ON A 13 YR OLD GIRL
A WORKINGTON man who carried out a sex attack on a teenage girl while drunk has been jailed for three years.
Nigel Tatton, who runs a cleaning business with his wife, has been banned from working with children indefinitely.
The 42-year-old, of Clay Street, was found guilty of indecent assault on a 13-year-old girl by a jury at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday after more than four hours of deliberation.
Judge Paul Batty, QC. said Tatton, who touched his victim’s private parts, had been guilty of a flagrant breach of trust.
He said a police officer involved in the case had never seen a child of that age so upset.
She had sobbed uncontrollably after the incident.
The girl, whose identity is protected by law, is now said to be doing well at her school.
Tatton, who is a father-of-two young children, told the jury that he had done nothing wrong.
Greg Hoare, defending, said that Tatton was at a low ebb and drunk at the time of the offence in November of last year.
He feared that the cleaning business, which he ran with his wife, might not survive his time in custody. That would cause great hardship.
Tatton will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period.
