TEN YEAR PRISON TERM FOR CUMBRIAN PERVERT WHO SEXUALLY ABUSED BOY

A man who subjected a schoolboy to five years of persistent sexual abuse has been sent to prison for 10 years.

John Dixon, 54, of Kirksteads Farm, Moorhouse, near Carlisle, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Dixon was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today after being found guilty of six charges dating back to the 1990s.

They were three of indecent assault, two of indecency with a child and one of another sexual offence.

Dixon, who has two daughters, admitted a further three sexual offences on the boy.

Standing in the dock, Dixon spoke to the judge in person having previously sacked two teams of lawyers.

A second trial had to be heard last month because he sacked his first barrister after five days of an earlier one. His second barrister withdrew citing “certain difficulties” which made it impossible for him to carry on.

Judge Paul Batty told him: “It is perfectly plain to me that you groomed this boy and started abusing him from the age of 12 and it occurred persistently until he was nearly 18. It occurred virtually at every opportunity you had the chance to abuse him.”
