Swindon man masturbated whilst blowing kisses to young children on train

A Swindon man masturbated whilst blowing kisses and raising his eyebrows at children on a train as it came into Westbury, a court heard.

Robert Baker, 38, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court having pleaded guilty to outraging public decency and threatening behaviour at earlier hearings.

The court was told how the defendant, of Stafford Street, boarded a train from Weymouth on 22 August 2019, sitting opposite a family with two young children – aged 3 and 5. He was also visible to a second family with a four-year-old on the same carriage.

During the journey, Baker slouched in his seat and began raising his eyebrows and blowing kisses towards the three-year-old opposite him, said to be trying to her their attention.

Simultaneously, he exposed his chest and was moving his hand up and down inside his trousers whilst looking at the child. He spat on his hand up to four times before placing it back inside his garment and continuing the up and down motion.

This continued for half an hour, but instead of dealing with the offender, train staff shuffled the families around the carriage to ensure they were not in view of Baker.

He is said to have then done the same to a 12-year-old on the carriage.

When the train arrives at Westbury Railway Station, Baker is asked to leave the train. Police officers were greeted with persistent swearing, mainly consisting of the F-word.

National Probation Service officer Lesley Shannon-Lowe said Baker’s offender manager had to stop working with Baker due to “inappropriate messaging”.

On hearing a full pre-sentence report had not been completed, the case was adjourned until 19 July at Swindon Magistrates’ Court. He was released on unconditional bail.

Baker admitted offences that do not require him to register as a sex offender.

Nicholas Wells pleads guilty to Hudson’s Field sexual assault

A 29-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a serious sexual assault which took place in Salisbury two years ago.

Appearing at Salisbury Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing today (May 7), Nicholas John Wells, of Eyres Way, Salisbury, admitted to a charge of Section 2 Assault by penetration.

The court heard how he sexually assaulted a woman in her 30s just after midnight on May, 19 2019 in Hudson’s Field.

Shortly after the incident an e-fit drawing of the suspect was released, and the appeal was renewed in May 2020, a year after the assault.

However a breakthrough came in the form of developments in DNA evidence sampling technology which meant that Wells, a suspect in the case, was matched to samples taken from the victim. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

DC Hannah Milburn, the Wiltshire Police officer leading the investigation for CID South, said: “We are very pleased with today’s result which means that Wells’ victim will not have to endure having to revisit her horrific ordeal by being involved in a court trial.

“I’m sure that the public will be reassured that a dangerous sex offender has been taken off the streets and will face justice for his crimes.”

Her sentiments were echoed by DI Dean Garvin who said: “This was a horrific crime.

“Nicholas Wells attacked a young lady in her home and sexually assaulted her. I would like to pay testimony to her courage, both in reporting this and throughout the process.

“This has been a long and complex investigation.

“DC Hannah Milburn never gave up on her efforts to bring the victim justice. I want people to know that we never give up on these cases, even if they take years, we will continue to work on them and try to solve them.

“The offenders should live with that. They should always look over their shoulder. That is what they do to their victims.”

Wells is due to appear before Salisbury Crown Court on July 2 for sentencing.

Jail for pervert who told teen he wanted to have sex with her

A Park South man made vile comments about a 13-year-old girl’s appearance and told her to text him if she wanted sex.

The girl, who was being driven by Martin Williams at the time, was left extremely uncomfortable and tried to change the subject.

But one-track-mind Williams – who was more than 30 years her senior – kept up his perverted commentary, even after he’d parked up the car near South Cerney to relieve himself.

Prosecutor James Tucker told Swindon Crown Court this morning that Williams, 48, was driving the young girl in March 2019.

He began talking about her appearance, telling her she was “really fit and pretty” and had “big boobs”.

Williams said he could imagine having sex with the girl: “If I was younger I would s*** you. I’m deadly serious.” Mr Tucker said the older man added: “If you do want to do it just give me a text.”

He urged the teenager not to report their conversation. “You can’t tell anyone,” he was reported saying. “You can’t even tell your mum or dad else my daughter would be taken off me.”

The girl’s mum later found out about the conversation and the matter was reported to the police.

Jailing him for two-and-a-half years on Thursday morning, Judge Jason Taylor QC said: “What happened in this case is best described as grooming conversation where you were laying the groundwork for future penetrative sex as opposed to that day. That, of course, doesn’t minimise the fear that your victim experienced.”

He added: “This incident may have been relatively, and I emphasise the word relatively, short lived but it will remain with her for far longer – possibly her life – and this court must reflect that.”

Williams, of Leighton Avenue, Park South, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual communication with a child.

The judge said he had taken Williams’ mental health disorder into account when sentencing him. Even if the 30 month jail sentence had been in the range where it could be suspended, he would have imposed immediate custody, Judge Taylor said.

Williams must abide by a sexual harm prevention order and register as a sex offender for life. A three-year restraining order prevents him from contacting his victim.

Colin Boon – Westbury

Blind paedophile collected child sex abuse images for over a decade

A paedophile claimed he couldn’t have been looking at indecent images of children because he’s blind.

Colin Boon, 61, put forward the explanation as his defence lawyers prepared his case for trial.

That defence fell away when the Westbury man pleaded guilty in February to a dozen counts of possession of indecent or prohibited images of children and extreme pornographic videos showing women having sex with animals.

Judge Peter Crabtree sentenced Boon to 18 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years, after hearing the sexagenarian was awaiting an operation to have a pacemaker fitted and it was unlikely he’d be able to complete the sex offenders’ rehabilitation programme if he was sent to custody immediately.

He said: “Anyone who downloads indecent images or children is fuelling an abhorrent industry, which involves the physical and psychological abuse of young children often with lifelong consequences. That is why this kind of offending is serious.”

Prosecutor Stephen Dent told Swindon Crown Court that members of paedophile hunter group Innocence Project North West live streamed a citizens’ arrest at Boon’s then home in Salisbury in 2018.

The group’s male founder, posing as an underage girl, had spent eight days exchanging messages with Boon online. The sexually explicit messages concerned the group, although Boon claimed he was aware the “girl” with whom he was speaking was in fact a decoy account.

The visit from the vigilante group brought the defendant to the attention of the police. Officers seized 26 digital devices from his flat on which were found illegal images and videos. They included laptops, mobile phones and SD storage cards.

In total, he was charged with possession of 125 images and films in category A, 81 in category B, 191 in category C, four prohibited images and 77 extreme pornographic images and videos showing women having sex with animals.

The vile collection featured children estimated to be as young as 12 months. Analysis by digital forensics experts suggested Boon had started saving the images in 2006, Mr Dent said.

Boon, of Bratton Road, Westbury, pleaded guilty in February to possession of indecent images of children, prohibited images and extreme pornography. He told the judge on the first day of trial he was entering the guilty pleas “on the advice of counsel”.

Judge Crabtree ordered Boon complete 40 rehabilitation activity requirement days as part of his 18 month suspended prison sentence, saying it was in the interest of the public, children and Boon himself for the defendant to be rehabilitated.

He must register as a sex offender and comply with a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years. Charges of attempted sexual communication with a child will lie on the file.

Wiltshire man admits having child sex abuse images and extreme animal pornography

A partially blind man has pleaded guilty to possession of child rape images and images of humans having sexual intercourse with animals

Colin Boon had been due to stand trial this week on more than a dozen allegations he had the illicit images of children – including more than 120 in the most serious category showing the rape or torture of children

But after discussions between prosecutor Stephen Dent and the 61-year-old’s barrister Charley Pattison, the Wiltshire man was rearraigned at Swindon Crown Court yesterday.

He pleaded not guilty to attempted sexual communication with an child named in court only as “Shannon”.

He was read 13 other charges relating to the possession of indecent and prohibited images of children or illegal images of animals, answering “on the advice of counsel, guilty” to each charge.

Appearing before Swindon Crown Court holding his white cane, Boon, of Bratton Road, Westbury, admitted possession of 125 indecent images in category A, the most serious category and which includes depiction of child rape, more than 80 images in category B, 190 in category C, 14 prohibited images of children and 77 extreme pornographic images depicting sex between people and animals.

Judge Peter Crabtree adjourned the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and medical evidence. He warned Boon’s lawyer that the starting point was a year’s imprisonment.

He will be sentenced on March 22.

The judge said his pleas would result in him being subject to sex offender notification requirements, meaning Boon must tell police of any changes to his address.

Martin Vines – Goatacre

Court order for paedophile caught talking to teenage girls on social media

Magistrates have imposed a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) on a convicted paedophile caught posing as a teenage girl on social media.

51-year-old Martin Vines, of Quakers Walk, Goatacre, was sentenced to a community order back in 2016 for possession of incident images of children.

Wiltshire Police lawyer Louise Ravenscroft says the force has serious concerns about his behaviour online since a discovery less than two years ago.

Regular home visits conducted by DC Deborah Cook’s team on the public protection unit have uncovered evidence that Vines is believed to be a risk to the public – mainly children.

Officers seized a laptop on 30 September 2019 which showed that he had created two fake profiles on Facebook and Instagram where he was purporting to be a teenage girl.

The profiles, named ‘Samantha’, had engaged in conversations with real teenage girls – both under and over 16 – and women.

‘He told officers that he wanted to be female and wanted to find out what it was like to be female’, Ms Ravenscroft said. She suggested he could have spoken to adults about this instead.

Home visits in 2020 also uncovered evidence Vines was continuing to use fake social media profiles under the name ‘Samantha’ to communicate with females dispute being given advice not to. It’s said some of those conversations were sexualised, however, no charges have been brought by Wiltshire Police as yet.

The court heard that the people on the receiving end of his messages do believe he is the teenage girl he is pretending to be.

Ms Ravenscroft added that he has been using multiple devices, disregarding advice to use only one and offer inspection if requested by officers. There was also evidence that he had regularly deleted his internet history.

She said Vines is ‘making it difficult to ensure public are protected’.

The defendant will soon no longer be subject to sexual notification requirements of his 2016 order, meaning unless the SHPO was granted, Vines would be completely unsupervised.

The original SHPO included 13 prohibitions, all around the use of the internet and devices. However, magistrates added an additional prohibition preventing the use or downloading of a VPN (virtual private network) – software that hides your identity online.

The SHPO was imposed for five years.
