Paedophile destroyed 14-year-old girl’s life and left her with an STI

A paedophile “destroyed” a 14-year-old’s life after engaging in sexual activity with her in a country park.

Mohammed Jama, 47, lied to the victim claiming he was 25 and also left her with an STI. The girl’s mother said his vile acts have “destroyed the whole family”.

The victim and a friend met Jama on a bus and made their age clear to him

But Jama lied about his age, persuaded the girl to call him and arranged to meet her at an Asda store on October 4, 2019.

Two sexual acts took place at Kingfisher Country Park in Shard End, Birmingham, said Andrew Wallace, prosecuting, at Birmingham Crown Court.

Jama of Granville Street, Ladywood was jailed for seven years and two months after he admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child.

The teenager later sent to a text to her aunt, who would have known she had not gone to school that day, saying something “bad” had happened.

Mr Wallace said Jama, from Ladywood, Birmingham, later made several attempts to contact the girl.

After the matter was reported to the police, the 14-year-old was examined and found to have contracted an STI.

Jama was traced to a nearby hostel and he was linked to the incident through DNA.

In a statement, the victim’s mother said “Not only has it destroyed my daughter’s life, it has destroyed the whole family.

“My beautiful daughter was left feeling withdrawn and not wanting to leave the house. She has isolated herself in her room.”

Serial flasher who terrorised students almost 30 times avoids jail

A serial flasher who terrorised students almost 30 times in a single month has avoided jail.

Riki Phillips targeted a string of undergraduates in the Selly Oak area of the city last March

The victims were left alarmed and distressed, although none were directly touched by him, West Midlands Police said.

Phillips, from Rubery Lane South, Rubery, was arrested on March 24 last year after a member of the public saw him acting strangely. He resisted arrest, injuring two officers.

Phillips was charged with 25 incidents of indecent exposure, two assaults on police officers and a public order offence.

He was given a hospital order after a two-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

‘Manipulative’ man rumbled after trying to have sex with girl 12 – who was undercover cop

An undercover police officer, posing as a vulnerable 12-year-old girl, was sent a series of messages by a “manipulative” Birmingham man who was trying to get her to have sex with him.

Roy Edwards, who pretended to be a teenager, messaged the ‘girl’ for 10 weeks sending intimate pictures of himself and demanding she send him photos.

Edwards, 34, of Welsh House Farm Road, Quinton, who had previously been convicted of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to look at images of sexual activity and possessing indecent images, was jailed for five years and four months.

Judge Paul Farrer QC also extended the time he will remain on license after his release from prison by three years because he presented a “significant risk of causing serious harm.”

Edwards started the online conversation on November 30 2017, telling the ‘girl’ that he was 18 when in fact he was 30.

She told the defendant she was a 12-year-old virgin and he replied by asking her if she wanted sex and if she wanted to see an intimate picture of himself.

He asked that she send pictures of herself including a photo of her breasts.

In passing sentence at Birmingham Crown Court Judge Farrer said: “You undoubtedly believed you were communicating with a 12-year-old girl when in fact you were messaging an undercover police officer.

“Following that you communicated with the officer on many occasions over the next 10 weeks.

“This communication involved both messages and phone calls in which you used grooming behaviour and expressed a desire to have sex with her.

“In the early stages, the officer said that her relationship with her mother was strained and that she was living with foster parents and so you believed you were communicating with a troubled and vulnerable child.

“In those circumstances, you repeatedly spoke about travelling to Cardiff and having sex with her in a hotel.

“You repeatedly asked for photos. When she expressed reluctance you sought to manipulate her.”

The judge said Edwards had sent another intimate photo of himself as well as an image of adults engaging in sexual activity.

Throughout the communication the defendant was careful in hiding his identity, using a false name and claiming he lived in Manchester.

Judge Farrer said there had been significant planning and that when the defendant’s phone was seized police found eight indecent images of children, including one category A picture.

He said his previous not guilty plea had shown a lack of remorse.

He said: “These types of offences commonly involve people who are unsophisticated and socially isolated.

“Your presentation at the trial leads me to conclude that you are sophisticated, determined and manipulative,” the judge said.

Man admits 12 counts of indecent exposure

A man has admitted a dozen counts of indecent exposure after police investigated reports of incidents at a popular park.

The search for a suspect began after officers were informed that a man had been indecently exposing himself in Babbs Mill Park, Solihull, in February.

They had been linked to other alleged incidents elsewhere in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police eventually arrested and charged Mehari Mathewos who last week pleaded guilty to a total of 12 counts of exposing himself when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 46-year-old, of Hillcross Walk, Hodge Hill, Birmingham, will be sentenced next month and was remanded in custody.

Anh La – Quinton

April 2021

Quinton paedophile with sick images of children claimed he was downloading Kung Fu films

A paedophile who had sick pictures of children aged as young as three claimed he had been trying to download Kung Fu films.

Anh La attacked police officers who raided his home in Quinton in order to hide the images which had nearly 2,000 indecent images and videos he had amassed over ten years.

More than 200 were classed as the most serious – and depraved – category while the pictures were also sorted into folders with warped names such as ‘Siberian defloration’ and ‘Sweet and young’.

And yet despite the 65-year-old showing a ‘concerning’ lack of understanding about the seriousness of crime, in particular any awareness of the impact on the children in the material, La avoided an immediate prison sentence.

He pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing indecent images.

At Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, March 24, La was sentenced to 15 months in prison suspended for two years. A ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was also imposed including conditions to restrict his mobile phone and computer use.

Police raided his home in Chelsea Close on October 24, 2019 to investigate intelligence indecent images were being accessed from the address.

Prosecutor Tim Harrington said: “When police attended this defendant was uncooperative and assaulted two police officers to stop them gaining access, and then tried to escape.”

La was previously dealt with at magistrates court for offences relating to his actions towards the police. A number of devices were seized from his home and analysis showed his computer and mobile phone had been used to access child porn. Victims appearing in the material ranged from aged three to their mid-teens.

A total of 204 images were classed as category A, 88 were category B and 1,598 were category C.

La clammed up in interview with police and was even heading for a trial before belatedly pleading guilty.

Passing sentence Judge Inman stated it was not ‘realistic’ to expect the probation service to support La, due to his difficulty understanding English and the restrictions the Covid-19 pandemic has imposed on face-to-face contact.

He added it was in the ‘wider public interest’ to suspend the sentence stating the conditions in the SHPO would prevent La re-offending in the same way.
