Paedophile caught out when he wore same trainers for police interview seen in obscene picture

A paedophile was caught out when he wore the same trainers for a police interview that had been snapped in a picture taken of his penis.

Christopher Papworth thought he was chatting to a 14-year-old girl called ‘Susie Brown’ after he spotted an online profile, set up by a member of a group called UK Justice.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the 48-year-old contacted the fake account within hours of it being set up in February, despite the fact it said ‘Susie’ was 14 years old and gave her date of birth as 2005.

He then started sending sexual messages to the ‘girl’.

Elizabeth Muir, prosecuting, explained: “This is a decoy offence. The defendant believed he was communicating online with a 14-year-old girl named Susie Brown. During the course of these discussions he told who he believed to be Susie that he lived in the Walker area of Newcastle. There were requests to meet her.”

Five days after setting up the profile, members of UK Justice travelled to Papworth’s home to confront him.

After discovering he was not at home the group handed their information and messages on to the police and Papworth was arrested.

“He was interviewed the following morning,” said Ms Muir. “He initially answered not comment. He then however, accepted that in the photos that clearly showed a man’s penis that the trainers in the photo were the same as he was wearing in the interview.”

Papworth, of Enslin Street, Walker, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to meet a child following grooming.

Judge Christopher Prince told Papworth that the offences he pleaded guilty to could have landed him in jail.

But he decided to sentence him to a three year community order, which would give him a chance to get help with his rehabilitation.

Papworth’s community order includes 20 sessions of rehabilitation and 40 sessions of sex offender group work.

He must be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Predatory Gateshead paedophile jailed after abusing three children

A predatory paedophile who subjected three children to sexual abuse has been jailed.

Paul Berry’s crimes date back to the 1980s when he indecently assaulted a young girl.

Then, in the mid 2000s, Berry, from Gateshead, began abusing two young boys when he would make sexual advances towards them and sexually assault them.

The victims all bravely came forward in 2019 to report the abuse and an investigation was launched by Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding unit.

Berry , 60, was arrested and denied all the allegations but a jury found him guilty of 12 counts of sexual assault at Newcastle Crown Court in March.

Last week, at the same court, he was sentenced to 14 years behind bars.

Berry, of Pattinson Gardens, Felling, has also been handed an indefinite Serious Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which places restrictions on him when he is released from prison and he will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Heaton pervert had ‘enormous’ collection of more than 200,000 indecent images of children

A pervert who amassed an “enormous” collection of indecent images of children has been spared prison.

Over a 16 year period, Christian Fletcher downloaded more than 200,000 child abuse photographs by trawling the internet for the illegal material.

Newcastle Crown Court heard he had “catalogued” his collection when police raided his home in Heaton, Newcastle.

Now the 49-year-old has been given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty and admitting he needs help.

The court heard it was in September 2018 that police swooped and seized various devices from Fletcher’s home.

On them were 236 of the most serious, category A, images, 447 class B and 205,382 class C. There were also 11,665 prohibited images of children.

He pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images between 2002 and 2018 and one of possessing prohibited images.

Judge Robert Adams sentenced him to 15 months suspended for two years with a ten year sexual harm prevention order and a requirement he completes a sex offender treatment programme.

Sunderland man found with vile abuse of children as young as one will be sentenced by a crown court judge

A man faces jail after being caught with a sickening stash of child abuse images at his Sunderland home.

Among Stephen Collier’s vile collection was a youngster aged around one and others who detectives say are in visible distress.

Collier, 56, of North Hylton Road, Southwick, was caught when officers from Northumbria Police’s specialist Paedophile Online Investigations Team raided his property.

Forensic searches of his digital devices revealed 121 images, including 32 at highest level category A, magistrates in South Tyneside heard.

There were also 49 at category B and 40 at category C, prosecutor John Graham revealed.

He said the starting point for possession of category A images was 12-months behind bars and six months for category B.

Mr Graham said: “Officers from Polit, Northumbria Police’s Paedophile Online Investigations Team, attended his home.

“They were in possession of a warrant issued by North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

“The warrant was executed, and his house was searched, and a number of digital images were recovered.

“The police evidence is that there is very visible distress to some of the children.

“There is also a child that police say is one year of age.

“Looking at category A, the starting point is 12 months but there’s also category B which has a starting point of six months.”

“Nevertheless, the download has taken place and he has to be dealt with.”

Collier pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child, between July 1, 2006, and April 8 of this year.

Magistrates told him his crimes were so serious their sentencing powers were insufficient, and he must be dealt with at crown court.

He will be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, May 28.

Collier, who was granted unconditional bail, was immediately made subject to the sex offenders’ register.

Newcastle paedophile with collection of 500 sick pictures and videos of children avoids jail

A Newcastle student who had a sick collection of almost 500 child sex abuse images and videos has walked free from court.

Abid Miah’s laptop and phone were found to contain 493 indecent images of children as well as horrific videos of very young girls being tortured and sexually abused.

National Crime Agency (NCA) investigators arrested the 21-year-old at his home in Fenham on suspicion of making/distributing and possessing indecent images of children on May 23 last year.

Officers searched his house and recovered the computing student’s Samsung mobile phone, a memory stick, and a laptop.

Forensic examination revealed that the phone and laptop contained 493 indecent images of children. There were 177 category A images (the most serious), 157 category B and 159 category C.

Many of the images were hidden in a secret album and an encrypted cloud storage app.

NCA investigators also discovered two horrific category A videos: one of a four-year-old girl being sexually abused and another of another very young girl being tortured and sexually abused.

After answering “no comment” in interview and originally denying the offences, Miah later pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images.

He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday and was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years.

Miah was put on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, made to forfeit his electronic devices and sent on a rehabilitation course.
