Pervert jailed for rubbing courgette through leggings in Hereford

A pervert who shoved a courgette down the front of the leggings he was wearing before “parading” in front of shoppers has been jailed.

Prolific sex offender Geoffrey Chambers, of Beaumaris Houses in Cwmbran, was spotted in Hereford’s High Town by horrified and disgusted shoppers, including parents with their children, on a Saturday afternoon in the run-up to Christmas.

The 66-year-old stood simulating a sex act for more than an hour before he was arrested by police.

Cathlyn Orchard, prosecuting, told Hereford Crown Court on Friday that Chambers had a “long history of indecent exposures” which resulted in prison time and sexual harm prevention orders, but that did not seem to be a deterrent.

It was at 12.30pm in High Town on Saturday, December 12, when Chambers was spotted leaning against a market stall pole by an off-duty police officer, Miss Orchard said.

He was wearing a coat, tight leggings and a face mask. The police officer’s wife said she could see a large, long item through the leggings which Chambers kept touching.

He kept trying to make eye contact with the officer’s wife, as well as other woman in the city centre, with lots of “distressed” shoppers also noticing Chambers.

One witness, who was shopping with her 14-year-old daughter, said she “felt sick” and immediately went home.

Chambers, who had only been released from prison two months before the offence, then started “parading himself”, Miss Orchard said.

Police turned up around an hour later to arrest him, and he then removed the courgette which was tied around his waist with string.

When officers searched his car they found more courgettes.

It also came to light that Chambers had recently committed two similar acts in Swansea and Cardiff recently, but only received a warning from police in South Wales.

Sentencing Chambers to eight months in prison, Judge Martin Jackson said most shoppers in High Town reacted with “disgust and repulsion” at what they saw.

Having only just come out of prison after serving time for two attempted child sexual offences, and with 31 cases of indecent exposure to his name, he rejected the defence view that Chambers was a decent prospect for rehabilitation.

The judge said the actions in High Town were “offensive, disturbing and alarming” and unacceptable in public view, especially where there was families with children of all ages.

Chambers, who pleaded guilty to one county of public order offence and one of outraging public decency, was sent to prison for eight months, and his current sexual harm prevention order was modified. He must also pay a statutory surcharge, but does not have to pay costs.

Newport paedophile went on the run for six months

A paedophile who went on the run for six months after escaping from police officers coming to arrest him has been caught and jailed.

Robert Devney, 48, formerly of Fisher Close, Newport, jumped out of a first floor window of a house in the city, prosecutor Lowri Wynn Morgan said.

She told how the paedophile was at large after fleeing the law last summer before he was found last month.

Devney was arrested hiding at a friend’s house in Newport’s Shaftesbury Walk.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how the defendant was jailed for 10 years in 2004 for the rape of a child.

The conviction however was overturned on appeal and he was sentenced to a prison term of 30 months for having intercourse with a girl under the age of 16.

He also had to register as a sex offender.

Miss Wynn Morgan said officers had gone to arrest Devney last August on suspicion of committing a burglary.

He was living at an address he had not given to the police and this meant he failed to comply with sex offender register notification requirements.

The defendant pleaded guilty to this offence and to resisting a constable.

Devney has 25 previous convictions for 73 offences, including robbery, racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and escaping from custody.

This latest offence was his sixth failure to comply with sex offender notification requirements.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke told the defendant: “You have persistently breached sex offender notification requirements.

“They are put in place to protect the public.”

She jailed him for 16 months and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge after his release from prison.

The judge, Recorder Ignatius Hughes QC, jailed the defendant for five years.

Paedophile shared vile images on Snapchat and Kik

TECH giants have been urged to do more to combat online child sexual abuse after a Gwent paedophile was jailed for exchanging horrific photographs.

The NSPCC called for action following Nathan Tubb’s case in which he used Snapchat and Kik to “trade” images of young girls being raped.

The 25-year-old, formerly of Cwmbran, was sharing the filth on the internet with other paedophiles, prosecutor Laura Shepherd said.

Tubb, now of Station Road, Waunlwyd, Ebbw Vale, pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child.

He also admitted three charges of making indecent photographs of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image.

The defendant was jailed for two years and eight months.

Tubb was also told he would have to register as a sex offender for life and he was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order until 2030.

Paedophile asked 11-year-old for nude pictures after adding her on Facebook

A teenage paedophile asked a young girl to send nude pictures of herself after adding her as a friend on Facebook.

Kieran O’Connor contacted the 11-year-old girl asking if she “wanted a boyfriend”. He then sent a photograph of himself topless and another showing his genitals, a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court heard on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old tried to encourage the girl to send pictures of herself and to meet up with him but the court heard she refused.

Prosecutor Jenny Yeo said O’Connor sent an unsolicited Facebook friend request to the girl and asked her if she “wanted a boyfriend”. Ms Yeo said the girl told him her age immediately.

“He said that he wanted to die because nobody would date him and that he just wanted a girlfriend,” Ms Yeo said.

“He asked if she thought he was fit and if she wanted to see photos of him topless. He sent her a photo of the top part of his body and asked her what she thought.

“He asked her to send a photograph of her whole body but she said she didn’t take those pictures because she thought she was ugly.”

Ms Yeo said he asked the girl “if it was okay if he showed her something dirty” and sent an explicit photograph of his penis. O’Connor then asked if she wanted to “see it in person”, Ms Yeo said.

The girl said she could not meet him in person. “He asked again saying he wanted a hug and a kiss,” Ms Yeo said.

“She refused. He persisted in asking for a kiss and asked if she was a virgin and whether she had seen a penis before.

“He kept asking her if they were dating and she finally told him she wouldn’t date him as he was 18, he didn’t know her, and he should get a girl his own age.”

O’Connor, of Thornhill, Cwmbran, pleaded guilty to a single count of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Addressing O’Connor, Judge Daniel Williams said: “I’m told that you understand that this cannot happen again.

“I hope that is right because if it does you wouldn’t be receiving the sort of sentence I’m going to pass upon you today.”

O’Connor was sentenced to a three-year community order and will have to complete 30 days of the Horizon sex offender programme.

He will also have to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay a £95 surcharge.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order, both for a period of five years.
