Pengam paedophile pleads guilty to 1990s sex offences

A paedophile is facing a jail sentence after he admitted two sex offences committed against a girl during the 1990s.

Andrew Higgs, 43, of Meadow Close, Pengam, near Blackwood, pleaded guilty before Judge Jeremy Jenkins at Cardiff Crown Court.

The defendant admitted unlawful sexual intercourse with a child and indecency with a child.

Higgs’ sentence was adjourned for the preparation of a report.

He was represented by Andrew Taylor and the prosecution by Laurence Jones.

Higgs is due to be sentenced on May 13.

Judge Jenkins warned him it is likely he will receive an immediate prison term.

Higgs was granted conditional bail until next month.

Ebbw Vale teenage paedophile admits sex attack on girl

A pervert was remanded in custody after he admitted carrying out a sex attack on a young girl and making child abuse images.

Cory Wilkes, 19, is due to be sentenced later this month after the case was adjourned for him to be assessed by the Probation Service.

The teenager, of Llys Onnen, Ebbw Vale, has pleaded guilty to sexual assault and making indecent category A, B and C images of children.

At Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Michael Fitton QC adjourned the case and set a provisional sentencing date of April 30.

He remanded the defendant in custody until that date.

Wilkes was represented by Jeffrey Jones and the prosecution by Jason Howells.

Fake ‘cop’ stopped woman & asked her to perform sex act to reduce £5k fine

A pervert who impersonated a police officer pulled over a woman driver and asked her to perform a sex act to reduce a £5,000 fine.

Jimmy Cash, 28, stopped his victim on the A495 near Wrexham, Wales, and told her she was speeding.

He demanded a £5,000 fine and told her she would lose her licence and go to court.

But fake cop Cash said the fine could be slashed to £4,000 if she performed a sex act on him.

Caernarfon Crown Court was told the woman feared she would be “raped and die” during the “terrifying ordeal”.

Cash, from Christchurch, south Wales, had pleaded not guilty to all counts, but changed his plea for blackmail and false imprisonment last month.

On Friday, he also pleaded guilty to a charge of impersonating a police officer.

Appearing via videolink from HMP Berwyn, Cash was jailed for two years and eight months.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said: “Understandably she was terrified, fearing that she would be assaulted sexually and that she might die at your hands.

“Women such as this victim are entitled to be out and about in our communities safe from harm and from being targeted by men.”

The court heard the victim was driving an expensive luxury car on October 20 last year at around 2.30pm.

A black Audi driven by Cash came behind her “out of nowhere” and was “right up near the boot”.

After flashing his headlights and gesturing at her to pull over, she stopped in a lay-by, believing it was an undercover police car.

The victim said Cash appeared “professional and dressed all in black” and “spoke confidently and with the knowledge of how a police officer would talk to someone”.

He was “very convincing” and the woman believed he was a police officer who claimed to have stopped her for “speeding”.

Cash he was from the “drugs squad” and was “doing a favour for the police”.

He told the victim she had “two options”, adding: “It will cost you lots and you will have to go to court. You will lose your licence but I will be nice to you.”

When he asked her to perform a sexual act on him she realised he was not a police officer, before activating the recording device on her phone.

After getting inside her car, the court heard Cash demanded £5,000, or £4,000 and a sexual favour.

He told her she could “go home and wash” if she carried out the sex act, adding he “wouldn’t offer that to anybody else.”

In the audio recording Cash is heard telling the victim she “did not have to do this if you don’t want to.”

Insisting she would pay the money but would not perform the sexual act, she drove to Whitchurch with Cash in the car.

He told her she had five minutes to get the money or she would “never walk again”.

But the victim escaped and ran to a nearby cafe where she asked them to call the police, with Cash fleeing.

In a victim impact statement, the victim told the court the “world doesn’t feel safe to me anymore”.

“I kept thinking, why did this happen to me? “Why did he pick me?,” she said.

Caging Cash, Judge Rowlands also slapped a five-year restraining order on him not to contact the victim.

Ebbw Vale paedophile pensioner downloaded abuse images

A pensioner who downloaded more than 500 “disgusting” child abuse pictures will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Jeffrey Reynolds, 72, of Victoria Avenue, Ebbw Vale, was handed a suspended jail sentence after he admitted using the internet to search for the disturbing images.

Prosecutor Marian Lewis told Cardiff Crown Court how police officers raided the defendant’s home last summer.

They found he had 56 category A images – the most extreme – 73 category B, and 382 category C pictures.

Reynolds pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent pictures.

Judge Michael Fitton QC told the defendant he had downloaded “disgusting” images of sexual abuse against children.

Reynolds was jailed for eight months, suspended for 18 months, and he must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He will have to register as a sex offender until 2031.

The defendant was also made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order which will regulate his use of the internet.

Reynolds will have to pay £300 towards prosecution costs and a £100 victim surcharge.

Judge Fitton also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the electrical items seized which contained the illegal images.

Pensioner jailed for sexual abuse of child committed in 1970s

A pensioner who sexually abused a child has been jailed almost 40 years later after his victim came forward.

Ian Scott, 74, of Arthurstone Gardens, Meigle raped his victim, who has lifelong anonymity, on two occasions and indecently assaulted her on four occasions in the 1970s while living in the Gwent area.

He admitted kissing the victim and touching her breasts but denied anything else had happened.

But he was found guilty by a jury of rape and two further counts of indecent assault following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.

During the trial the court heard Scott claim it was a “consensual relationship” and told his victim: “What do you think your parents would do if they knew what you had just done?”

At a sentencing hearing Judge Jeremy Jenkins said: “You took her innocence and childhood away and exposed her to an adult world she was ill-equipped to deal with at the time.

“She was alone and had no-one to turn to. You took full advantage of that situation .

“You caused her to give evidence against you and made her relive what must have been distressing matters indeed.

“This is a dark secret the victim has had to live with for many years and had not seen the light of day. The time has come for you to countenance your actions and face the consequences of what you did all those years ago.”

A victim personal statement was read out by the victim via video link in which she detailed the effect Scott’s sexual abuse had upon her life.
