Multiple child rapist jailed for longer

A serial sex offender has had his sentence increased following intervention by the then Solicitor General, Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP.

Jonathan Maertens, 35, pleaded guilty to 34 child sexual offences as well as to possessing hundreds of thousands of indecent images of children and a ‘paedophile manual’. Over the course of nearly a decade of offending, Maertens filmed himself drugging and abusing his victims.

On 23 November 2020, Maertens was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years’ imprisonment at Newport Crown Court.

Following a referral to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme by the Solicitor General, on 19 March 2021 the Court found the sentence to be unduly lenient and increased the minimum term of imprisonment to 25 years.

Isle of Wight paedophile sentenced to life

A West Wight paedophile, who raped youngsters and made more than 200,000 indecent images of children, has been jailed for life.

Jonathan Richard Maertens, 35, of Richmond Meade, Freshwater, admitted a number of child sexual offences, including rape and sexual assaults against nine victims.

Appearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court today (Monday), it was said that he made 209,380 indecent images of children and 9,027 movies, containing some from the most serious Category A showing the rape and torture of young children

He recorded footage of himself sexually abusing female children aged between 4 and 17.

Maertens in many cases edited the footage and stored it on hard drives at his home.

The court heard the devices were seized when officers executed a warrant at his home address.

Maertens was handed a life sentence, to serve a minimum of 16 years before he can be considered for parole.

Judge Tim Mousley also made Maertens subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and he has been placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Judge Mousley said: “Sixteen years is not a fixed term. You may never be released. If released, you will be on licence for the rest of your life.”

Maertens is banned from working with children and vulnerable adults.

He had previously pleaded guilty to 36 offences, including a drugs charge and assault of a police officer.

Sick paedophile who abducted and raped girl, 3, in country park is jailed

A twisted and dangerous sex predator who abducted and raped a three-year-old girl in a ‘brutal and terrifying ordeal’ has been jailed.

Graham Medway snatched the little girl after she had become separated from her family for a matter of minutes, on August 31.

The perverted 62-year-old then subjected the child to a sickening sex attack at Fort Victoria Country Park, near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

Following the attack, Medway at first denied any involvement, and only admitted to the offence once presented with DNA evidence.

Now the vile monster has been jailed for his crime after previously admitting raping the child during an earlier hearing in October

Appearing at Newport Crown Court today, Medway was jailed for nine years and will serve a further five-year extension to his licence period.

The mother’s statement said her child had changed since the ‘horrific’ crime, and had become defiant and aggressive.

She said words couldn’t describe the full impact on the family, who live on the Island.

Her words were read out by prosecutor David Richards.

The mother said: “Our job is to keep her safe but as a result of this man’s actions we have an overwhelming guilt that we failed to protect her and keep her safe.

“This has changed our lives.”

Judge Roger Hetherington said the parents were not at fault at all and had further been put through the trauma of the investigation into the crime, when Medway at first denied it.”

Vile sex beast aged 62 admits horrific rape of three-year-old girl in woods

A 62-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the rape of a three-year-old girl at a country park, according to police.

Graham Medway, from Freshwater, admitted the attack on the girl at Fort Victoria Country Park in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, on August 31.

He was remanded in custody at Newport Crown Court to be sentenced on January 8.

It is understood the victim was enjoying a day out with her family when Medway managed to lure her away and took her into dense woodland.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: “On the afternoon of Monday 31 August this year, police were called to Fort Victoria Country Park with a report that a young girl had been seriously sexually assaulted in an area of woodland by a man she did not know.

“Following a thorough investigation involving police officers from across the Isle of Wight and the mainland, 62-year-old Graham Medway from Freshwater was charged with rape of a child under the age of 13.

“Appearing at Newport Crown Court today, he admitted the offence and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Friday 8 January 2021 for sentencing.”

Suspended sentence — Isle of Wight man was admin of paedophile chatroom

A Freshwater man found with indecent images of children — who was admin of an online chatroom for paedophiles — has been given a suspended prison sentence and must instead undertake unpaid work in the community.

James Westbury, 25, of Princes Road, admitted three charges of making indecent photos of a child, and one count each of publishing an obscene article, possession of prohibited images of children, and possession of extreme pornographic images.

He appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on Friday.

Prosecutor, Edward Elton, said Westbury came to the attention of police through the National Crime Agency.

When questioned, he told officers: “I have been looking at indecent images of children and you will find them on my phone.”

He provided his PIN and made a ‘significant statement’ detailing what he had been doing.

Analysis of his various devices revealed 121 images at Category A, the most serious, 74 at Category B, and 122 at Category C. Most were still images, some were moving.

There was extreme porn, babies, and bestiality, as well as Westbury’s ‘main interest’ — boys and girls aged between three and ten.

Westbury was an admin of an online forum dedicated to images of a specific paedophilia interest and barred anyone from joining who didn’t know the correct terminology for the specific interest.

One of the rules of joining, was that members had to provide a photo of a child every two weeks.

Mr Elton said: “He was in a management role as it were, a gatekeeper for the chatroom.”

Judge Susan Evans said: “I have a great concern with his involvement in the chat site. He was a driving force. He presents a very worrying picture.

“In those images are real children suffering real and horrific abuse. It’s really very distressing.”

She said he had a reasonable prospect of rehabilitation and gave credit for his guilty plea and previous good character.

He was given a ten-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years.

He must undertake 150 hours of unpaid community work.

He was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.

He has been barred from working with children or vulnerable adults

A pervert has been sentenced after he was caught by a paedophile hunting team

McDonald’s worker Thomas Town of Isle of Wight appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court where he was convicted of:

Attempting to cause or incite a child aged 13-15 to engage in sexual activity
Attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child aged 13-15
Attempting to engage a child into sexual communication

The court was told that Town had contacted the online profile of someone he believed was a 14 year old schoolgirl.

Town told the girl he was 30 before sending hundreds of sexually explicit messages.

The pervert asked her if she touched herself, requested indecent images, sent photos of his wife’s vibrators and video called the girl whilst masturbating until he ejaculated.

Town attempted to silence the girl by warning her that they could get into trouble as what he was doing was illegal.

Got the decoy to masturbate. Told the decoy it was bad him speaking to her because of his age and hers and that he could get in to trouble with the police if she told anyone.

However, the girl did not exist and was instead a adult member of a paedophile hunting team who pose online as children to catch sexual predators who target children for sexual purposes.

The team handed their evidence to the police who in turn arrested Town.

Town was handed a 24 month community order

Tthe judge told him to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and that he must attend a sexual offending programme.

Town must also register a sex offender for five years

Pervert caught with depraved images of child rape and bestiality

A retired IT worker who had more than 7,000 indecent images of children has avoided a prison sentence

He was sentenced to eight months in jail suspended for two years and hit with a £3,000 fine after a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

John Stoddart, 65, of Madeira Road, Ventnor, Isle of Wight, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on 13 July where admitted 10 charges mainly relating to making and possessing indecent images of children.

Stoddart made in excess of 500 indecent images of children; 149 fell into the most severe category (A) for child abuse.

NCA officers arrested him in June 2018 after proving he had made child sex abuse files available on an online sharing platform.

Files containing the words ‘Pedoland’, ‘Preteen’ and ‘Lolita’ were located and attributed to Stoddart’s IP address and user profile.

Forensic analysis of his digital devices found 7,256 indecent images and 754 videos from as early as 2004.

An additional 3,000 images related to bestiality.

During interview he initially denied all allegations and said he was not sexually attracted to children.

He said he sometimes clicked on online files ‘to give them a go’, and that he’d once inadvertently seen a video of a baby being abused by clicking into a pop-up on his screen.

Within the downloaded material, officers found Stoddart was a fan of online games and visual stories featuring erotic encounters with adults, children and animals.

He admitted to having a fascination with incest because it was ‘taboo’ and said he had been collecting extreme pornography since living in Germany in the seventies.

As part of his sentencing today at Newport Crown Court he was also put on the sex offenders register for 10 years, given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order limiting his use of the internet, ordered to attend a 35-day rehabilitation programme and told his electronic devices will be destroyed.
