Sex offender who manipulated computer browser faces jail

A convicted sex offender faces the prospect of going behind bars — after flouting a judge’s order by manipulating his computer browser settings.

Andrew Charles Newbery, of The Meadow, East Cowes, broke the terms of a suspended sentence order by admitting his breach of a sexual harm prevention order when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday.

Between February 1 and October 10 last year, Newbery used a device to access the internet, set to ‘incognito’ mode and which had not been configured to retain the internet browsing history.

The sexual harm prevention order was made by the Isle of Wight Crown Court on June 30, 2016.

For Newbery, 36, Berenice Mulvanny said: “My client is under no illusions what his options are by putting himself in breach of a suspended sentence order.”

Newbery was bailed to reappear at the same venue for sentencing on April 1.

Librarian who used work computer to access 15-year-old girl’s contact details then shared explicit messages with her while posing as boy called ‘Gary Barlow’ is jailed for three years

A librarian has been jailed after he used his job to access a child’s contact details and sent her explicit messages online while posing as a 16-year-old boy called ‘Gary Barlow’.

Glyn Viney, 43, used a fake Snapchat account to engage in sexual communication with the 15-year-old girl after spotting her in the library and using its database to find her.

A court heard the pervert also had similar communication with other children – with one believed to have been as young as 13.

Now, Viney, who worked in a library in Newport, Isle of Wight, has been jailed for three years and four months.

Daniel Sawyer, prosecuting at Isle of Wight Crown Court, said Viney contacted his 15-year-old victim online while pretending to be a teenage boy who shared the same name as Take That star Gary Barlow.

Conversations between the pair quickly turned sexual, with Viney asking the girl for sexual images and to carry out sexual acts on herself.

The court also heard there were references to ‘sexual gratification’ during conversations, in the context of the victim being ‘in pain’.

The victim eventually reported matters to her foster carer, who then contacted police.

Viney, who was married but split from his wife, was arrested in August 2019.

A Snapchat account and screen recorder app, Mobizen, were found on his mobile phone.

Mr Sawyer said messages included demands for videos and added that the victim had ‘disclosed her vulnerabilities’ to Viney.

Similar conversations with different profiles were also found on the phone, with one victim appearing to be just 13 years old. Police were unable to trace the victims.

Viney admitted three counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

He blamed his behaviour on a ‘mental breakdown’ which presiding judge, recorder Anna Midgley, said was ‘indicative of his shame’.

He added that he knew he was going to prison and did not see himself as a victim.

Recorder Midgley jailed him for three years and four months, placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely and made him subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181.

Newport man faces jail for multiple child sex abuse offences

AN Isle of Wight paedophile faces imprisonment for a string of sex offences against children.

Appearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (Monday), Glyn Viney admitted:

  • Three counts of inciting a child, aged under 16 years,

  • Two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child;

  • Two counts of attempting to incite a child, aged 13 to 15 years,

  • Engaging in sexual communication with a child, aged under 16 years;

  • Making indecent images of a child.

The offences took place between December 1, 2018, and August 24, 2019.

The court was told Viney, 43, of Barton Road, Newport, had made 50 indecent images of children — a combination of stills and films, with 11 of them Class A, the most serious type.

Judge David Melville ordered a report on Viney, with a view to jailing him.

Viney, who has no previous convictions, was bailed to reappear at the same venue for sentencing on April 1.

March 2021

Behind bars — Peter Tomlinson JAILED for child sex abuse offences

Prominent Isle of Wight businessman Peter Tomlinson is behind bars after admitting a string of horrific child sex offences.

The paedophile appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing today (Friday) and was given an 18-year prison term.

He had previously admitted 12 charges, but eight more were admitted to today – described as a representative sample of many other offences uncovered.

He had previously admitted paying a mother in the Phillipines, over the internet, to commit sexual acts on her children, aged ten and 12, and paying her for indecent photos of the children. This abuse lasted across and two to three year period.

It later transpired there were several other victims, and eight more charges were put to Tomlinson today.

The internet child abuser initially tried to dismiss his crimes as his “escape from reality” when first questioned by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The 63-year-old was remanded in custody at an initial hearing at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on November 18 and remained detained ever since.

The former president of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce was charged as part of a NCA investigation into child sexual abuse across the world.

Tomlinson paid to watch live-streams of children being sexually abused abroad, and complained if it wasn’t quite what he had asked for.

He also admitted making 47 category A photos, 148 category B photos and 353 Category C photos.

Tomlinson paid £5,511, via 127 transactions to accounts in the Philippines, between May 2015 and April 2017 – for live-streamed child sexual abuse. He also paid in the region of £10,000 in additional monies, some of which went on adult porn.

In one later exchange, in January 2019, Tomlinson said he would pay the woman £7.66 if she performed a sexual act on the girl.

Investigators unearthed proof of thousands of messages between Tomlinson and a Filipino facilitator – who has been arrested and the children safeguarded.

They exchanged 4,166 lines of chat on Skype – 358 indicated to be video calls and 3,809 text messages.

The newer charges, pleaded to today, included seven counts of paying for the sexual services of a girl aged under 13 — with one including bestiality and a five-year-old child.

He is also charged with paying for the sexual services of a girl aged under 18.

The charges relate to various dates between January 1, 2017 and October 10, 2019.

A prominent member of the Catholic church in Cowes, Tomlinson was the owner and director of Betapak and children’s soft play business JR Zone. JR Zone has since changed hands and is under new ownership.

He was also chief executive of IW business Education Destination, which arranges bespoke school visits to the Isle of Wight.

Disgraced ‘pillar of the community’ charged with further vile offences

A businessman and former president of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce has been charged further child sexual offences

63-year-old Peter Tomlinson, who once was seen as a leading business figure on the Isle of Wight, has been charged with 7 new sickening child sex offences.

Tomlinson, formerly of Baring Road in Cowes, faces:

  • Three counts of paying for the sexual services of a girl under 13 (penetration)

  • Two counts of paying for the sexual services of a girl under 13 (no penetration)

  • One count of attempting to pay for the sexual services of a girl 13 to 15 (no penetration)

  • One count of paying for the sexual services of a girl aged 16/17.

The offences relate to oral sex on a child by a dog and various live sex shows with payments to, or attempted payments to, 6 different women relating to 8 different children.

The offences were committed between 2017 and 2019.

Tomlinson will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court via video link later today (Tuesday)

The pervert had previously admitted:

  • Five counts of paying for the sexual services of a girl under 13;

  • Two counts of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child under 13;

  • Two counts of intentionally encouraging/assisting the commission of an either way offence

  • Three counts of making indecent photographs/pseudo photographs of a child.

  • And paying for the live-streamed sexual abuse of children in the Philippines.

Tomlinson paid £5,511 via 127 transactions to accounts in the Philippines between May 2015 and April 2017 – all for live-streamed child sexual abuse

He repeatedly paid one female facilitator for the live-streamed abuse of two young girls. The youngest was just 10 when the abuse began.

In one exchange in January 2019, Tomlinson said he would pay the woman £7.66 if she performed a sex act on the girl.

Investigators unearthed proof of thousands of messages between Tomlinson and the Filipino facilitator – who has been arrested and the children safeguarded.

They exchanged 4,166 lines of chat on Skype – 358 indicated to be video calls and 3,809 text messages.

During those calls Tomlinson repeatedly asked for “harder” abuse footage, spelling out what he wanted to see and then complaining about what he received.

In June 2018 he paid the woman £12.99 and then complained saying for that price:

“I will expect a show with two girls for 30 minutes.” , he told her

Paedophile admits extensive child sexual abuse charges

A businessman and former president of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce has today (Friday 18th December) admitted 12 counts of child sexual abuse, after a National Crime Agency investigation.

Among the charges, 63-year-old Peter Tomlinson, admitted five counts of paying for the sexual services of a girl under 13 – by arranging, directing and paying for the live-streamed sexual abuse of children in the Philippines.

Tomlinson paid £5,511 via 127 transactions to accounts in the Philippines between May 2015 and April 2017 – all for suspected live-streamed child sexual abuse (CSA).

And the NCA uncovered evidence that between 5th May 2018 and 13th February 2019, he repeatedly paid one female facilitator for the live-streamed abuse of two young girls.

Communication between Tomlinson and the woman was at all times of the day and night with him telling her:

“I am busy in meetings” and “I’m still working”.

During interview with NCA officers he admitted arranging, directing and paying for live streamed CSA and possessing IIOC (indecent images of children).

His electronic devices contained 47 category A images (the most severe), 148 category B, 353 category C and 46 extreme images.

There was also evidence of more victims of live-streaming abuse including an indecent image of a girl aged about eight. A further investigation is ongoing.

Jailed: Brading man caught with hundreds of child abuse images

A Brading man caught with more than 700 indecent images of a child on his parents’ computer has been jailed.

Andrew Haire, 41, of High Street, appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Thursday.

He admitted three counts of making indecent images of a child.

The court heard from prosecutor, David Reynolds, how between June 19 and September 23, Haire had stored more than 700 indecent images of a child on his parents’ computer.

Mr Reynolds said Haire had been known to police and deemed as high risk, and confessed to a police officer his desire to rape a young girl.

The court heard how during an unannounced home visit, police had found Haire using his parents’ computer, which he had quickly turned off.

Haire told police he had been playing a video game, but upon seizure of the computer, child abuse images had been found.

Mr Reynolds told the bench Haire had confessed immediately to what was currently on the machine, but not to those deleted which were found following a more detailed analysis.

He said Haire’s previous convictions included an indecent assault against a male in 2001, and a sexual assault on a female child in 2016, for which he had been jailed for 40 months.

Mr Reynolds said Haire was already subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

Among the images found on the computer, 110 were Category A — the worst kind — 188 were Category B, and 460 were Category C.

Haire was given a 20-month sentence and an order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the computer.

Haire was also given a sexual harm prevention order — his previous one discharged — which will remain in place until further notice.
