The ‘worrying’ sexual messages sent by Rhyl man Joshua Vacher to a ’13 year-old schoolgirl’

A Rhyl man sent a photo of his manhood over the internet to who he thought was a girl aged 13.

He asked for “a dirty photograph” of her, engaged in highly sexualised conversations with her and told her in graphic detail what he wanted to do to her.

But it turned out that he was communicating online with an under-cover police officer, Mold Crown Court was told today.

Joshua Paul Vacher admitted at an earlier hearing that between January 22 and February 5 last year, he attempted to communicate with a child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

The 26 year-old of Brighton Road in Rhyl , also admitted that he attempted to get a child to look at images of a person engaging in a sexual act, and attempting to incite a child to record indecent images of herself.

Prosecuting barrister Matthew Curtis said that the offending began Vacher contacted who he thought was a schoolgirl aged 13 via the Kik messaging service.

When asked for a photograph he was sent one of a girl in school uniform and he told her she was cute. He said he had something to show her and sent her a photograph of his manhood, and asked her for dirty pictures of herself.

Vacher also sent messages discussing meeting up in Rhyl or Wrexham .

Told she had no sexual experience, he said “I could be your first if you want.”

He expressed his love for her and sent lots of kisses.

Inquiries identified the defendant, the information was passed on to North Wales Police and a search warrant was executed.

He had used a false name on the Kik profile but his correct photograph.

Initially, he denied any knowledge of the profile and said the messages had been sent at a time when he had lost his mobile phone.

Passing a verdict, Judge Rhys Rowlands said that he took into account the defendant’s learning difficulties.

However, he said that Vacher believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old child and engaged in “quite worrying” sexual messaging with her and subsequently jailed him for 22 weeks.

Vacher must also register with the police as a sex offender and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Sex offender who assaulted girls for more than 20 years is jailed

A sex offender who assaulted young girls over a period of more than 20 years has been locked up.

Daniel John Howarth, 36, from Rhyl, was given a 12-year prison term for attacking three girls.

Howarth was found guilty of one charge of rape and four of sexual assault against a girl in the 1990s and 2000s by a jury at Caernarfon Crown Court last week.

He had admitted sexually assaulting a girl in the 2000s and 2010s, and another girl last year.

The victims said the effects of the assaults had been significant.

In a Victim Personal Statement, which was summarised in court, one said she had been “very scared”.

Another said she was terrified that someone would find out about what had happened to her.

Judge Huw Rees said he had considered the risk posed by Howarth of further offending.

He said: “You abused three girls over a length of time and your behaviour speaks for itself. You pose a significant risk of harm by committing further offences.”

Howarth was jailed for six years on the charges relating to the first girl, and a total of six years for the offences against the second and third girl. All sentences will be served consecutively.

Simon Killeen, for Howarth, said the sentencing of his client was not an easy exercise and conceded the court would be concerned by his behaviour.

Howarth was told he will only be considered for release by the Parole Board when he has served two thirds of his sentence. When he is released, he will spend an additional six years on licence.

He was made the subject of a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must register his details with police for the same period.

Uni academic pervert who said he wanted to go ‘kiddie hunting’ spared jail

Dr Ian Connor was guilty of looking at some of worst kind of abuse images

A university academic who said in online child abuse chats that he wanted to go ‘kiddie hunting’ has been allowed to walk free for court.

Dr Ian Connor, 53, had set up a fake Twitter account and used Bangor University’s wi-fi to carry out his crimes.

Connor, from Upper Clwyd Street in Ruthin, admitted distributing three indecent images of the worst kind of abuse, and making 41 others which were in the lower seriousness categories.

Judge Huw Rees, sitting at Caernarfon crown court, heard Connor had worked in education for years, but was involved in online chat of an “extreme” nature in which he said he wanted to go “kiddie hunting”.

Judge Rees told Connor: “You should be entirely ashamed of your actions as I think you are. Showing any interest in such images creates a demand for further abuse of children.”

Judge Rees said Connor had been made redundant, not linked to his arrest, but had a new job.

He wasn’t allowed to work in education and his marriage had suffered as a result of his arrest.

“Imprisonment is a real option here. It would be a relatively short sentence,” the judge said.

But instead he made a community order to tackle Connor’s “perverted lust” for viewing child abuse images.

Connor’s barrister said internet perverts would engage in “banter” with no real intention to carry out an act.

March 2019

North Wales man convicted of sexual assault in France must sign British sex offenders register

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl while living in the south of France must sign the Sex Offenders Register in Britain.

Nicholas Allsup agreed he had been convicted of the offence committed in 2005 when he was living in the Toulon area and told a judge at Caernarfon Magistrates Court he had served a three year prison sentence.

But the 71-year-old, of Tan yr Eglwys Road, Rhuddlan, told the court he maintained his innocence and protested it was unfair the offence was “following him around the world”.

Allsup said he was living in France and always wore a kilt and this had attracted the girl’s parents to him and he had agreed to provide English lessons. Later he said allegations were made against him.

“It’s something I didn’t do and I believe I fell into an ambush,” he told the court.

Gareth Preston, prosecuting, said he was making an application for a notification order against Allsup.

He said the application was made on the grounds that Allsup had been convicted of a relevant offence namely an indecent assault and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child in France.

Deputy District Judge Gerallt Jones said he was unable to go behind the decision of the French court.

He ordered Allsup be made subject of the notification requirement and told Allsup to contact the police officers in court to make the necessary arrangements.

His details will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

February 2019

Wrexham man jailed after police found ‘foul’ images of children being abused

A MAN who downloaded indecent images of children has been sent to prison for nine months by a judge who said he was not convinced he understood the severity of his offending.

Mark Anthony Jones, 33, used peer-to-peer software to download the images, but claimed he had done so accidentally and some of the images were “art”.

Mold Crown Court heard police executed a warrant at his home and when they searched his bedroom they found “sexualised cartoons” on a computer screen.

There were also other indecent images founds, including 25 films classed as category A, and his browser history was indicative of searches made for child sex abuse, including terms like “homemade incest”.

Jones, of The Ridgeway, Marchwiel, admitted three counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images of children between January and August last year.

Defence barrister Henry Hills said Jones’ best mitigation was his guilty plea.

Mr Hills admitted: “He continues to minimise his behaviour, but that is not unusual in these situations.

“He’s a loner and he is described as a man of low self-esteem, confidence and self-worth.”

The barrister proposed that Meaden be spared jail so he could attend a sex offenders’ programme.

But Judge David Hale disagreed and told Jones: “They are quite foul films of children being abused and it must have been obvious that they were being abused.

“You cannot accept you have a sexual interest in children being abused, but that’s nonsense.

“You are not claiming that this Japanese stuff (cartoons) is of value and art work.

“You knew what you were doing because of how you were looking up these search terms.”

Jones was also placed under a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and told to register as a sex offender for the same length of time.

He was also told to pay a £140 victim surcharge.
