Police found extreme porn and a collection of images involving the abuse of young children on pensioner’s four devices

A Rhyl man, who had a collection of thousands of illegal child images, was told by a crown court judge on Thursday that he had a distorted attitude which would disturb the public.

Judge Niclas Parry told widower John Reynolds, 67, that he had sought to justify what he had done by claiming that children were sexually knowing and that they wanted the sex.

He did not seem to understand that the downloading of images created a demand for more.

The defendant had no regard for the potential consequences for females who were unwilling participants in images of extreme pornography, involving images of sex acts between them and animals.

Reynolds on his own admission had a sexual interest in children as young as ten.

Twenty years ago he had possessed indecent material for gain when he sold indecent videos.

Nine years ago he had received a suspended sentence for possessing extreme images.

But that had failed to deter him, said Judge Parry.

Police had found hundreds of images of extreme porn and a collection of images involving the abuse of young children.

“By your own admission you have a sexual interest in children as young as ten,” he said.

Judge Parry said that he had given very careful consideration to whether the case could be resolved in the community.

He had even adjourned the case for further inquiries to be made over a possible alcohol treatment programme.

But it was clear from his attitude that he had no interest in accepting any assistance.

The judge said that he could not be assured that there was any realistic prospect of a community order protecting the public.

He was therefore jailed for nine months.

Reynolds was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for ten years.

A ten year sexual harm prevention order was made.

He admitted making by downloading one category B image, making 8,400 category C images and possessing 227 extreme images.

Prosecuting barrister Richard Edwards told how in excess of 200,000 other images had been found by police which had not been categorised.

They were found on four devices after police executed a search warrant at his home in January.

Reynolds said that he did not realise that he had that many.

Man who blamed innocent friend for pictures of sleeping 13-year-old is locked up

A man who took indecent pictures of a sleeping teenage girl and blamed an entirely innocent man has been locked up.

Aaron Hughes, 23, who at the time was staying in Rhyl, was also convicted of possessing 140 indecent images of children, some of whom were as young as two, which he had downloaded from the internet.

Mold Crown Court heard Hughes had taken pictures of the partially naked 13-year-old girl, taking advantage of her while she slept.

He was jailed for two years for taking the pictures of the 13-year-old, and was given a consecutive 15-month sentence for downloading 140 images, with 33 of those in the most serious category.

Hughes received an additional six months for breaching a suspended sentence, making a total of three years and nine months, and was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life.

Judge Timothy Petts said: “You denied responsibility throughout and indeed you sought to blame a friend for this offending.”

The judge said Hughes had concealed evidence by hiding it away on his phone, and there were a high number of indecent images downloaded from the internet.

“For every image, there is a child out there who is a victim of abuse,” said the judge.

He had committed offences over a period of time and continued to offend after his first phone was seized by the police, the court heard.

Prosecuting barrister Sion ap Mihangel said the images were found in a secret file on one of two Samsung mobile phones seized by police during
two separate searches.

Hughes claimed one of the phones was not his, despite the fact it said “Welcome Aaron to your new phone” when it was switched on.

He alleged his friend had set it up on purpose to implicate him before also accusing him of taking pictures of the girl as she slept.

John Pritchard – Rhyl

September 2007

Pervert caged for seven years

A paedophile who indulged in sexual acts with two babies has been jailed for seven years.

John Pritchard committed a series of sex offences against tots and young girls and was sent down for his evil crimes at Mold Crown Court last week.

But bespectacled Pritchard, 50, of Ffordd Derwen in Rhyl, was desperate the public should not see his face and pulled his jumper over his head as he was led to court by prison officers.

The court heard how Pritchard indulged in perverted sexual acts with a baby boy aged 18 months and a toddler, a little boy aged about four.

He also indecently assaulted young girls and later told police he tried to control himself but was “out of control”. Pritchard told police that he was “unable to stop himself”.

Judge Christopher Llewellyn Jones QC branded him a continuing danger to the public.

In addition to the seven-year prison sentence, he gave him an extra two years on licence so the authorities will have some control over him on his release.

It was clear from the pre-sentence report Pritchard fantasised about pre-pubescent girls and was sexually attracted to children.

The offences occurred before 2002 but the judge said if he was sentencing Pritchard under the present regime, he would have received an indefinite sentence for public protection. But he did not have the power to do so.

“You are assessed as a high risk of harm to children of all ages,” the judge told him.

The judge added the awful thing about the case was “they say that children don’t remember”.

But he had read the video interviews of the two children who had been abused as babies and they plainly remembered.

“They remember what actually happened to them despite their tender age,” the judge said. “One remembered being taken from his cot.”

The judge said it was perfectly plain the effect upon the youngsters had been significant.

The defendant, who had no previous convictions, would be given credit for his guilty plea and frankness, and the fact he had typed out in detail what he had actually done and handed that document to the police.

Gareth Preston QC, prosecuting, told how the mother of one of the children had confronted the defendant and he admitted what he had done.

She, commendably, told him to write down what happened and she also retained for the police text messages in which he made admissions.

He was arrested in April and immediately said “I will admit everything. I have written everything down.”

Interviewed, he spoke of being “romantic” with the young girls and “sharing his feelings” with the little boys.

Pritchard admitted charges of indecent assault against boys and girls.

Robert Gale – Wrexham/LLangollen

April 2019

Man jailed having sexual intercourse with 12-year-old

A man has been locked up for engaging a 12 year old girl into sexual intercourse

Robert Gale was 25 when he had intercourse with the girl as she lay over a bath.

The defendant, now aged 26, of Tan y Bryn in Wrexham, but who is originally from LLangollen denied two charges of sexual activity with the child in 2017.

But he was convicted by the jury of eight women and four men at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday afternoon, and was jailed for five years.

He was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life, and Judge Rhys Rowlands made a life-time sexual harm prevention order.

A five-year restraining order was made under which he is not to approach the victim.

Judge Rowlands said that, following initial sexual activity, Gale took the girl to a bathroom where he had sex with her.

At 25, he was a grown man with some experience of the world, including periods of custody, said the judge.

“I have no doubt that you knew the girl’s age,” he said.

“In the eyes of all right-thinking people, she was very young at 13.”

The court heard the defendant did not know the girl and had not met her before.

“You saw an opportunity to take advantage of her and took it,” said the judge.

“She had been drinking. I have no doubt that you recognised that as well.”

The judge said Gale had been before the court with depressing regularity over the years, mainly for dishonesty.

He had a number of previous convictions and received 32 months in June 2013 for a serious offence of aggravated burglary and possessing a knife.

Gale was on licence from custody at the time of the sexual offending and had since been recalled.

Prosecuting barrister Simon Rogers said Gale accepted that he had sex with the girl, but claimed she told him she was 16 before they had intercourse.

The girl told how Gale allegedly said: “None of you tell anything about this because I can get into serious trouble.”
