Bursledon DJ jailed for raping girl and abusing boys
A former parish council chairman and DJ who raped a 16-year-old girl and abused young boys has been jailed for 17 years.
Mark McCormick, 49, groomed and abused boys who he employed as roadies, Southampton Crown Court heard.
The former Bursledon councillor assaulted teenagers in vehicles and raped the girl who had got drunk at one of his parties.
He admitted 14 offences committed between 1997 and 2011 on the first day of his trial in September.
Sentencing him, Judge Nicholas Rowland said: “You controlled and manipulated your victims.
“No doubt they were excited by the idea of being with someone who was leading a rather glamorous lifestyle, in direct contrast to their own lifestyles.”
Prosecutor Fern Russell told the court the teenage girl said she now suffered from anxiety and flashbacks.
In a statement read out in court, the girl said: “I was a troubled child and I latched on to him, he felt safe and he was cool,” she said in a statement read in court.
“He is a leech to vulnerable children. He shouldn’t be working in a community centre or at a local council.”
Another victim added: “I was his lifeless puppet and he was my sick puppeteer.”
The youngest of McCormick’s seven victims was a boy aged under 14, the court heard.
McCormick, of Griffon Close, Bursledon, admitted seven counts of indecent assaults on boys and four counts of inciting boys to commit acts of gross indecency.
He also pleaded guilty to the rape, a sexual assault on a man and taking an indecent photo of a boy.

Former parish councillor pleads guilty to raping teenager and other child sex offences
A former parish council chairman faces prison after he admitted raping a teenage girl and sexually assaulting five boys.
Mark McCormick, who was the chair of Bursledon Parish Council, pleaded guilty to 14 indecent assaults between 1997 and 2011 charged against him at Southampton Crown Court, on the second day of his trial.
These include the rape of a 16-year-old and inciting boys under the age of 16 to engage in sexual activity.
The 49-year-old could now face a lengthy custodial sentence.
Last year, McCormick appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court where he did not enter a plea as the charges were too serious for the court.
McCormick became a prominent figure within Bursledon, but it is understood he stepped down from his public role in 2017, after he was re-elected chairman of the parish council in May 2016.
The parish council last year posted a vacancy for a councillor after McCormick resigned from the post.
In 2016, he was at the forefront of a bitter fight between the parish council and the Bursledon and District Community Association (BDCA) after the parish council were effectively evicted from their offices by the BDCA, which managed the building.
McCormick is also listed as one of the DJs and presenters working for the Southampton-based company Avenue Artistes Limited.
He will be sentenced for one count of rape, three of indecent activity with a child, three counts of multiple incidents of indecent assault on a child, five of indecent assault on a male person, one of sexual assault and one count of taking indecent photographs of a child.
McCormick was remanded in custody to be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, October 12.

Former Perth Tory councillor sentenced over child sexual abuse images
A Tory councillor caught with footage of child sexual abuse has been placed on the sex offenders register for three years.
Former Rotary Club president Michael Jamieson was also banned from having any deliberate contact with children under 16 after he admitted downloading child sexual abuse images
Ex-teacher Jamieson, who fronted a major Childline Scotland charity concert, was also banned from using the internet without express approval from social workers.
Perth Sheriff Court heard Jamieson was arrested shortly after being elected to Perth and Kinross Council in May last year.
He was found to have child abuse images and video featuring children as young as five years old being abused.
The retired music teacher – who has been photographed alongside Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson – had the home he shared with his long-term partner raided by seven police officers.
Jamieson was suspended and then quit his seat on the council following his arrest. He could have faced a prison sentence but was instead given 180 hours of community service by Sheriff William Wood.
Sentencing the pervert, Sheriff Wood said: “As someone who has been very prominent in the community one way or another, this will have caused you a distinct amount of embarrassment.
It may be argued that your loss of position in society may be punishment enough, but it does seem to me that because of the nature of the charge – including the possession and retention of these images – that there ought to be some further punishment element.
He also placed Jamieson, 69, from Perth, under social work supervision for three years.
Jamieson admitted making indecent images of children at his home between August 2014 and April 2016. He also admitted possessing indecent images during the same period.
The court was told that images including a video of a young boy being forced to perform a sex act on an adult were found on a number of computer devices belonging to Jamieson.
Procurator fiscal depute Carol Whyte said: “He has no previous convictions and lives with his long-term partner. He was a local councillor for Perth city for the Conservative party.
“He was president of the Rotary Club and secretary of Perform in Perth, where children have their musical ability assessed.
“Police received information that someone at the accused’s address may be in possession of images of children. Officers carried out a search while the accused was there with his partner.
“He made an unprompted reply that there were no images on the computer. When his partner asked what was happening, he said, ‘I looked at a couple of photos’.”

Former Perth Tory councillor and youth music festival chief was caught with hundreds of indecent images of children
A former councillor and the driving force behind the Perform in Perth music festival was found with images of the worst kind of child abuse, a court has heard.
Michael Jamieson’s sick stash of child rape images was discovered when police raided his home following a tip-off.
They seized multiple hard drives and USB sticks and forensics officers found more than 200 abuse images and a video designated as Category A, the most depraved, depicted a young boy, aged five-seven, performing oral sex on the older man.
Jamieson quit the council when he was charged, having been elected as a Conservative representative for Perth City South just months before.
He had been secretary of the popular music festival which annually attracts thousands of children to Perth from across Tayside and Fife and was president of Perth Rotary Club.
The 69-year-old of Buchan Road, Perth pled guilty to possessing the images between August 2014 and April 2016.
He will be sentenced at a later date but was placed on the sex offenders’ register and banned from the internet.

Former Godalming mayor jailed for nine years for child sex offences
A former mayor and councillor has been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of child sexual offences on Monday (June 18).
Simon Thornton, 46, has been jailed for nine years after he pleaded guilty to more than 20 sexual offences including one count each of rape of a girl under 13, assault of a girl under 13, possession of indecent photographs and videos.
Thornton, a former Godalming mayor and town councillor, previously pleaded guilty to 16 of the charges at the same court on Tuesday (May 8).
He changed his plea on six more counts to guilty at Guildford Crown Court on Monday morning.
The former councillor resigned from his role at Godalming Town Council citing “personal reasons” back in November 2017.
Thornton, of Abraham Way, Borden, Hampshire, will serve half his sentence in custody with the remainder on licence.
His not guilty pleas on voyeurism and paying for sexual services to a child will remain on file.
Seizing any opportunity to have sex with the child, Thornton used a secret code to signal he wanted sex.
He had sexual activity with the girl in his van, at a butchers shop and in public on a local common.
When arrested, he told police: “You know I am the Mayor of Godalming?”
