Sex offender failed to register house move

A REGISTERED sex offender failed to tell authorities he had moved to live with his mother in Lampeter.

Joe Charles Patrick Taylor, 29, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with requirements of the sex offenders register by not registering his address for a five-month period between May and October.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said Taylor was jailed for two years at Swansea Crown Court in 2011 after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity with an underage girl.

As part of his sentence he was ordered to register as a sex offender which included a requirement for Taylor, of Maesyfelin in Lampeter, to register any address where he lived for more than seven days.

However, when police made checks at an address registered by Taylor, they were told by his ex-girlfriend that he had not lived there since May and that he had actually been living with his mother.

Officers were told that Taylor had not informed authorities as his mother was ill and he didn’t want to cause any problems for her.

Taylor told officers that he had thought he was “doing the right thing” by not registering the address, but now accepted he had not been.

Ms Tench said Taylor’s failure to register the address was a deliberate failure over a period of five months, with Taylor having already been cautioned in June for failing to comply with requirements.

She said that during earlier discussions with officers, Taylor had said he was considering moving in with his mother, but had not confirmed that and was only considering it.

Defence solicitor Kevin Williams said Taylor had not been trying to avoid the authorities as he had been “living openly” in Lampeter instead of the registered address in Tregaron, but that he had thought that formally registering the address in Lampeter might cause issues for his mother.

He said that Taylor had not committed any offences in that time, other than the technical offence of failing to register the address and said that would normally have been dealt with by a caution if Taylor hadn’t already been cautioned.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until 7 December to allow a pre-sentence report to be completed.

Newcastle Emlyn man sentenced to 19 years for rape

A Newcastle Emlyn man has been jailed for 19 years this afternoon for the rape of two teenage girls.

Steven Alan Evans, aged 54, had denied the offences but a jury at Swansea crown court returned majority verdicts of guilty.

The jury heard that Evans, of Llwyncelyn in the village of Pentrecagel, told one of his victims it was no use her resisting because he was too strong for her.

Judge Keith Thomas said the offending called for consecutive sentences and jailed Evans for 10 years and nine years.

After his eventual release from prison he will have to register with the police as a sex offender.

Child rapist who subjected girl to 4 years of abuse is jailed for 20 years

A child rapist has been locked up for 20 years for a sickening string of sexual crimes.

Swansea pervert Kevin John Turner subjected the girl to the torment over a four-year period.

His catalogue of crimes include eight counts of rape, three counts of sexual activity with a child, four counts of sexual assault, and possession of indecent images of a child.

The 53-year-old denied the charges but was found guilty on all counts after a five-day trial at Swansea Crown Court.

Turner, now of Felindre, Swansea, abused the girl when he lived in Ceredigion.

Judge Geraint Walters sentenced Turner to 20 years behind bars and ordered him to serve a minimum of 13 years and six months.

He will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Man, 53, convicted of raping girl under the age of 16

A FORMER Cardigan man who confessed to being obsessed with young girls has been told he will receive a jail sentence “in double figures” after he was convicted of raping a girl under the age of 16.

Kevin John Turner, 53, was convicted unanimously following a trial at Swansea Crown Court.

The jury heard the offending happened when Turner was living in Tremain, near Cardigan.

Judge Geraint Walters said he would sentence Turner once a probation officer had assessed whether he was a dangerous offender as defined by law. Turner had already admitted possessing 355 indecent images of children.

Turner, now of Gerdinen Ganol, Felindre, near Swansea, had denied the rape offence. He admitted having sex with her but claimed it had been with her consent.

Catherine Richards, prosecuting, accused Turner of “positively enjoying” giving evidence about how he had sex with the girl.

“What I did was very, very wrong and I am ashamed of myself. But it was not rape,” he said.

Turner admitted giving the girl “poppers” before having sex with her.

Following the verdict Turner was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 8 May.

Paedophile jailed for sexual abuse of Kidderminster boys

A paedophile has been jailed after he sexually abused two boys in the 1990s, paying the younger £1 to perform sex acts on him.

Stuart Jacques was a youth himself when he committed all but one of the offences in Kidderminster between 1991 and 1993.

The 42-year-old, now of Quay Street, Dyfed, Cardigan, Wales, admitted five counts of indecency with a child, four counts of indecent assault and one count of an attempted sex assault and was jailed at Worcester Crown Court.

One of the boys, the victim in nine out of the 10 counts, was aged between nine and 10 at the time, the other aged between 12 and 14. At the time Jacques was either16 or 17 for all but one count, the attempted sex assault, which he committed when he was 18.

Michael Hall, prosecuting, said Jacques would play games with the boys, including ‘spin the bottle’ during which he and the boys would remove their clothes.

Mr Hall added the older of the boys recalled at the time feeling what was happening was wrong.

During the course of the abuse the younger boy would find himself alone with Jacques who would encourage him to perform sex acts, paying him £1 which the boy used to buy sweets and cakes.

Jacques was arrested in December 2015. Mr Hall said since his arrest Jacques had become withdrawn and there were concerns about his mental health.

Mr Hall said the younger victim had attempted suicide which he had described as ‘a cry for help’ and suffered flashbacks, sleepless nights and panic attacks.

The older boy said the abuse had had a ‘profound effect on him’. He described flashbacks and a feeling of guilt because he felt he had not done enough to stop the abuse of the younger boy.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright QC sentenced him to 40 months in prison for the attempted sex assault and 16 months concurrently for each of the five counts of indecency with a child. He sentenced him to 27 months for the four indecent assaults, also to be served concurrently.

Jacques must also serve an extra year on licence.
