A woman has been convicted by a jury of pimping out a 13-year-old girl from her home in Hove.

The jury, at Brighton Crown Court, unanimously convicted Karen Potter, 35, of arranging the prostitution of a child and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The offences were took place when Potter was living in temporary housing in Hove.

Potter shared a bottle of vodka with the girl while waiting for a photographer “friend” to visit and help her get work as an escort

She painted the girl’s nails, styled her hair and put make-up on her before Oxlade, now 37, of Tanllwyfan, Colwyn Bay, Wales, arrived with a “professional looking camera” and a tripod.

Things seemed “innocent” at first but the girl was “taken aback” when he took pictures of Potter in her underwear and naked, the court heard.

He asked to photograph the girl and Potter encouraged her.

The pair had sex in front of the victim before Potter said: “You’ve got to do it now.”

The victim said she felt she had been “treated like a slave” by Karen Potter.

Potter, of Harrison Road, Worthing, gave vodka to the girl before offering her to Neil Oxlade, 37, for £500 cash.

Daniel McCaw, 43, unemployed, of Blacksmiths Crescent in Sompting was sentenced to five years, having been convicted of two offences with Potter of sexual activity with a child. He was found not guilty of rape

The jury found Oxlade (who has a tattoo that says ‘only god with judge me’ guilty of paying for sex with a child and engaging in sexual activity in front of a child.

Oxlade was described by the victim as a “fat man with glasses”

Potter and Oxlade of Colwyn Bay, Wales, had sex in front of the girl, the court was told by Alan Gardner, prosecuting.

Judge David Rennie sent the jury back out to consider their verdict on other charges against the defendants at lunchtime on Friday 27 January.

He later arranged to sentence the pair tomorrow – Tuesday 31 January.

The case came to light after girl, who is now 18 and living in Brighton, went missing.

Her uncle tracked her down to Whitehawk where she told him what had happened. He told Sussex Police.
