Perverted Stephen Wright, formerly of Diamond Rd, Thornaby, has been jailed for 10 years.

Stephen Wright, a former employee for the Ministry of Defence was found guilty of multiple child abuse charges at Teesside Crown court.

The charges included indecent assault of a child under the age of 14 and the rape of a child under the age of 16.

The court heard that the father of three, Stephen Wright in his early 60s had started sexually assaulting the youngster when she was just 12 years old, back in 1979.

The abuse continued over a three-year time frame, leading to the child being raped on numerous occasions.

The crimes only came to light when the victim reported Wright to the police in 2014 when she was 46 years old; he was then arrested at his home in Leeds.

Wright was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.

In an impact statement his victim said that she suffered depression over the years and also tried to take her own life.

She said “I felt isolated because I lived in an abusive household where there were some fights with my parents and the threats of going into care if I misbehaved. That’s what Stephen Wright told me too, that’s why I kept quiet, in case I was sent away”
