A man who raped a girl on multiple occasions over a period of more than five years has been jailed.

Andrew William John Furbey ,27, of no fixed address but known in the Wythenshawe area was today sentenced to 15 years in prison at Manchester Crown Court.

He was found guilty of nine counts of rape at an earlier hearing.

Furbey raped a young girl over a period of five and a half years between September 2003 and March 2009. The first offence took place when the girl was 12 years old and he continued to rape her throughout her childhood until aged 17.

Detective Sergeant Suzanne Keenaghan said: “This has been an extremely difficult time for the victim. She has had to suffer at the hands of Furbey for over five years.

“It wasn’t until she was older that she had the courage to come forward and report it to police.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to bringing perpetrators of these serious crimes against children to justice and I hope this sentence helps her find some closure.”
