79-year-old prolific Peterborough paedophile with 31 convictions for sex offences jailed ‘again’
A prolific paedophile who offered cash to a 14-year-old boy for ‘a bit of fun’ in a Peterborough street has been locked up.
Dennis King (79), had stopped the youngster in Bretton to ask him for directions, before offering him money.
He said to the boy: “Do you earn money, do you work?
“Would you like to earn cash – I’m always up for a bit of fun.”
But the boy just walked off and told his mother about King’s behaviour, and the police were called.
On Friday King, of Fountain’s Place, Eye, was jailed for 13 months after admitting inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Peterborough Crown Court was told King committed his first sexual offence in 1958, and has a total of 31 sexual offences to his name.
When he committed the Bretton offence on July 28 this year he had only been released from prison a matter of months before, and was banned from speaking to boys aged under 16.
However, despite his lengthy criminal past, Roger Harrison, defending claimed King was ‘not a paedophile’ and he only offended as he had been abused as a child, describing King as suffering from ‘an illness.’
Cheryl Williams, prosecuting, had earlier told the court: “He is a registered sex offender managed at a very high level.
“Despite his senior years, he is still a danger to children.”
Judge Peter Murphy, sentencing, said: “It has been submitted you are not a paedophile. If that is the case, then frankly the term has no meaning, because that is exactly what you are.”
Judge Murphy added he felt the offer of money was a ‘disturbing factor’ in the case, and said: “You do represent a high risk to young boys in this general age range.”
King originally denied he had spoken to the boy, but after he was shown CCTV he pleaded guilty.
Along with the 13 month prison sentence, King is still banned from speaking to boys aged under 16, and also has to sign the sex offenders register.

Jail term for “prolific sexual offender” who photographed boys
A “prolific sexual offender” from March, with convictions dating back to the 1950s, has been jailed for taking, making and possessing indecent images of children.
Dennis King (78), of Springfield Avenue, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court today (April 15) for sentencing in relation to two counts of possessing indecent images of a child, two counts of possessing prohibited images of a child, two counts of making indecent images of a child, one count of taking indecent images of a child and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic movie.
King, who had admitted the charges at an earlier court hearing, received eight concurrent prison terms for the offences, the longest of which – given for the charge of taking indecent images of a child – was 12 months.
The court was told King had 25 convictions for 63 offences, 31 of which were sexual, with prison terms dating back as far as 1958 and up to 2000.
Judge Nic Madge described him as a “prolific sexual offender”.
Craig McDougall, prosecuting, said police found the explicit material after executing a warrant on King’s home on January 26, of last year.
The images were largely found on two computers at the address, but King had also framed and hung four photographs he had taken of naked boys on his bedroom walls.
Caroline Allison, in mitigation, said the number of indecent images in the case – 144 at level one, 82 at level two, 17 at level three, 15 at level four – was relatively small, added none fell under the most serious classification and may have been downloaded from the internet inadvertently while King searched for legal pornography.
She also stressed the boys photographed by King had given their consent ahead of the images being taken.
Prison terms hit seventh decade
The court was told King had 25 convictions from 63 offences, 31 of which were sexual.
Some of these are known to have taken place in Peterborough.
King has received prison terms varying from six months to seven years in 1958, 1959, 1964, 1966, 1972, 1978, 1982, 1990 and 2000, and in 2008 was made subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

PERVERT’S 40 YEARS OF SEX OFFENDING
A PAEDOPHILE who started committing sex offences more than 40 years ago has been sent back to jail for more indecent assaults.
Dennis King groped a 19-year-old in a city bail hostel in which they were both staying, just weeks after his release from prison last year.
Now a judge has warned the 64-year-old that if he continues to seek sexual favours from children when he comes out later this year, he could end up spending the rest of his life in prison
Jailing him for 12 months, Judge Hugh Mayor QC told King: You could, on order by me, be returned to prison to serve up to 10 years, but I don t think that is going to do any good.
I don t know how you are going to stop yourself, but the solution lies with you to stop committing offences.
If, when you come out of prison, you re tempted to seek sexual favours from children, you re going to end up in a position where you spend the rest of your life in prison.
King, who pleaded not guilty to five charges of indecent assault involving three young men, was found guilty of two of the allegations following a four-day trial.
He had approached the 19-year-old fellow resident in a toilet, grabbed his groin area through his jeans and offered him 10 for sexual favours. He later touched the 19-year-old s inner thigh.
King was also found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice by urging a friend, James Ludlow, to tell lies for him.
The jury could not reach a verdict on two other indecent assault allegations concerning another teenager and the judge ruled should lie on file.
A fifth indecent assault charge was dropped after the witness revealed he had sexual relations with King with his consent while in prison.
DENNIS King cried in the dock of Peterborough Crown Court as defence barrister, Isobel Dakyns, told how he had twice tried to kill himself and had suffered two heart attacks.
King, who was given 12 months custody but will be out in September because of time served, wept after jurors heard how he was first convicted of sexual offences in 1958.
He continued to offend throughout the 1960s and 1970s, serving several prison sentences for offences involving young boys, including terms of three years, four years and seven years.
His previous offences included gross indecency, attempted buggery, taking indecent photographs of children and dishonesty.
