WORKINGTON OAP GUILTY OF SEXUALLY ABUSING UNDER AGE GIRL

A man has been convicted of six charges of sexually abusing an underage girl.

Charles Law, 74, of Newlands Lane, Workington, was found guilty by a jury at Carlisle Crown Court.

He committed four sexual touching crimes and two of trying to incite the girl into sexual activity.

All six offences took place between 2011 and 2012. They were all specimen offences.

The court heard Law touched his victim inappropriately and had encouraged her to do the same.

His victim had confided in her mother about the activity, and was subsequently interviewed by police.

Law had denied all of the charges.

Kim Whittlestone, defending, had alleged that the incident had not happened and the victim made up the allegations.

The foreman of the jury told Judge Barbara Forrester, presiding, that the 12 members had reached a unanimous verdict of guilty on all six offences.

Law was made to sign the sex offenders’ register.

He will appear for sentencing on Friday, May 10, after reports have been compiled.
