A Paedophile took sick photographs of young girls to see if they were as “good” as the ones he had downloaded from the internet, a court heard.
Phillip Rose, 48, was jailed for a total of ten years yesterday after admitting a string of sexual assaults against youngsters, including the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Nottingham Crown Court was told that heating engineer Rose, of Empire Street, Mansfield, carried out the attacks between 2000 and 2004.
The offences came to light after the girl reported the rape in September.
Michael Cranmer-Brown, prosecuting, said, when interviewed, Rose said the girl was partly to blame.
“He said it had been a mistake and the girl had been flirting with him, he said he couldn’t help himself,” said Mr Cramner-Brown.
Following his arrest police raided his home and work van, seizing a number of computer hard-drives and discs. The court heard Rose had 9,638 obscene images, many of them involving children. 149 were graded level five, which depicted sadism and bestiality.
Among the haul, officers discovered 53 images which Rose had taken himself. They featured two four-year-old girls and a six-year-old girl being indecently assaulted.
Mr Cranmer-Brown said the girls’ mothers were horrified after being asked to identify their daughters.
“One mother said she was ‘shocked and sickened by the news‘. One of the children burst into tears when she was asked about the photos,” he said. “Rose said he had been sexually excited as the images were taken.
“He said he had wondered if he could take pictures himself as ‘good’ as the ones he had downloaded.” There was no evidence the images had been transmitted to anyone else.
In mitigation, Martin Elwick, told the court Rose had no previous convictions and had shown genuine remorse for his actions.
Sentencing Rose to a total of ten years imprisonment, and placing him on the sex offenders’ register for life, Judge Jonathan Teare said: “You are a vile pervert, a defiler and abuser of young children.”
Detective Constable Steve Freeman, of Notts Police Child Abuse Unit, said: “No amount of years will ever reflect what these girls or their families have gone through.”
