PERVERT Steven Nixon is behind bars after being convicted of a catalogue of offences of indecency against his fourth child victim.
The 42-year-old self-confessed paedophile from Fernhill Avenue, Fellside Park, Whickham, Gateshead, was given a seven year jail sentence at Durham Crown Court after admitting three charges of indecent assault and four of sexual assault against the same child.
The court heard that Nixon began abusing the girl – his fourth victim – when she was just six years old and the assaults continued for two years.
Police were called after the girl told a social worker what had been happening.
Tim Parkin, prosecuting, said Nixon had also been convicted of indecent assault against a boy, aged three, in 1988, and a boy, five, and girl, nine, in 1991.
Mr Parkin said Nixon’s latest victim told social workers he threatened her: “If I told anyone he would kill me.”
The court was told police who searched the house Nixon shared with his elderly parents uncovered 582 indecent images on his computer, and seven inappropriate films of children.
He also admitted possessing indecent material.
Robin Patton, representing Nixon, said his client recognised he was a paedophile.
He added: “He is grossly obese and his social life does not extend beyond the bedroom in the house he shares with his elderly parents.”
Judge John Evans jailed Nixon for seven years, but ordered that he only spend the first four behind bars, with the next three out on licence.
The sentence means he could be free within two years.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders register for life and barred for life from ever working with children.
