Elderly paedophile jailed for abuse of Edinburgh girls

An elderly paedophile guilty of abusing three young girls in Edinburgh has been jailed for five years.

Gordon Dalrymple’s conduct against his victims was branded by the judge as “manipulative” and “predatory”.

The 76 year-old, from Edinburgh, appeared at the High Court in Glasgow after being convicted of a string of sex charges last month.

The offences took place at an address in Kirkliston in Edinburgh between August 2001 and February 2005.

‘Predatory manner’

Lord Pentland told Dalrymple: “It is clear that you gained the trust of the girls and took advantage of them.

“You behaved in a manipulative and predatory manner.”

Dalrymple was also placed on the sex offenders list for the rest of his life.

A jury heard how the girls were aged 11 or 12 when the abuse started and were often plied with alcohol, money and cigarettes.

It also emerged first-offender Dalrymple tried to kill himself prior to a court appearance in connection with the charges.

Raymond McMenamin, defending, said: “He appears to be ashamed, embarrassed and feels that he has let down his family.”
