Man, 46, jailed over teen lover

A 46-YEAR-OLD man who got a teenager pregnant has been jailed for three years and four months.

Stephen Michael Blood, of Moorside Gardens, Ovenden, Halifax, admitted three offences of sexual activity with a child.

He has been put on the sex offender register for life and has been banned from working with children.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Blood formed a relationship with the 15-year-old schoolgirl in October.

Heather Gilmore, prosecuting, said Blood met the girl and her mother through a mutual friend.

He was allowed to spend time with the teenager in her bedroom and to stay overnight on the sofa.

Mrs Gilmore said one night the girl was staying with Blood and his girlfriend but she woke up to find him on top of her

The pair then began to text each other and by December were having sex.

When confronted, Blood denied having sex with the teenager and admitted knowing she was 15.

The girl confided to her sister that she was pregnant and that Blood was the father. The sister called the police.

The couple had sex eight or nine times and Blood admitted using contraception only occasionally.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has since given birth.

Malcolm Nowell, for Blood, said: “Mr Blood is not a man who targeted or groomed her for sexual favours.

“He has seen the effect of his actions on this young girl – he is very remorseful.”

Mr Nowell said the girl turned 16 within two weeks of Blood’s arrest and if the police had not become involved, he would have continued to support the girl through her pregnancy, believing he was in a “sincere” relationship.

Judge Christopher Prince told Blood that thinking he could have a relationship with a 15-year-old was “entirely corrupt”.
