Child abuser jailed for 10 years

A 52-year-old man convicted of nine sexual assaults on women – one a girl of 12 – has been jailed for 10 years.

John Deever, of Alfred Street, Wigan, Greater Manchester, was also convicted of assaulting two 16-year-old girls and a 21-year-old woman.

Liverpool Crown Court heard his offences came to light after one of his victims told her parents of her ordeal.

Police were informed and, when Deever’s three other victims heard about the investigation, they came forward.

Deever had denied all the charges and claimed the women had made up their allegations.

Judge Sean Duncan told him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
