Northwood estate caretaker jailed for sexual assault on child
A FORMER caretaker on the Guinness Trust estate in Northwood has been jailed for 19 months after admitting a sexual assault on a child six years ago.
Peter Cater, 57, of Iveagh Close, Northwood, also admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing extreme pornographic material.
He was also banned from any unauthorised contact with children for the next ten years and will have to sign the sex offenders register.
Cater had worked as a groundskeeper and odd-jobs man on the estate for 32 years before his arrest.
The court heard that he approached the victim outside the lock-up on the estate and invited her inside.
He ordered to strip but she refused. He then assaulted her, Judge Stephen Holt was told.
The assault came to light when the victim, now aged 15, told her mum in May.
When he was arrested, police found boxes of pornographic magazines and DVDs in his home, some of which contained extreme adult images.
Cater had originally denied the assault and incitement charges but admitted them at later hearings.
He is expected to serve half of his sentence and, because of time already spent in custody, will be released in about April next year.
