A paedophile who raped a little girl after forcing her to wear her school gym kit and suspenders was jailed for 12 years at the Old Bailey on Monday.
William Shattell, 55, preyed on the youngster at his Croydon home shortly after her 10th birthday in 1977 and subjected her to a six-year catalogue of abuse.
Cruel Shattell also abused the girl’s younger brother by screaming insults and beating him on a daily basis.
Ringing a large brass bell he would act as referee, staging fights between the two siblings and forcing them to hit each another.
Shattell, who now lives in Kent, was convicted last month of gross indecency, three charges of rape and two counts of child cruelty dating from January 1975 to December 1983.
Jailing Shattell for the sickening assaults Judge Giles Forrester told him: “That was an appalling breach of trust for obvious reasons and you did so repeatedly.
“It happened time and again over the years.”
Shattell showed no emotion as he received 12 years for the rapes, two years for gross indecency, and two years for the two counts of child cruelty, to be served concurrently.
