A CAMBORNE man has been jailed for the systematic abuse of two young girls over a period of six years.
Judge Mr Justice Butterfield described Peter Bowditch’s offences as “very serious” and sent him to prison for six years.
He said: “The impact on these little girls has inevitably been very grave.
“They have carried the memories of your abuse for years and each has borne a heavy burden of shame, hurt and humiliation.”
Bowditch, of South Tehidy, Camborne, pleaded guilty to five charges of indecent assault on one girl and one each of indecent assault and inciting her to commit an act of gross indecency on the other.
Allegations of attempted rape were left on the file, not to be dealt with without leave of the court or the Court of Appeal.
Jeremy Leaning, for the defence, said that Bowditch had limited intellectual ability and would inevitably find it difficult to cope with life in prison.
Bowditch must sign on as a sex offender for the rest of his life and the judge said he also intended to impose a Sexual Offences Prevention Order banning him from being in the company of any child without supervision.
