Paedophile filmed himself raping an unconscious young girl

A vile and disgusting paedophile filmed himself raping an unconscious young girl

Kevin John plied his victim with alcohol to the point where she passed out, and then took “delight” in recording the horrific assault on his mobile phone.

The youngster was one of a number of girls John sexually assaulted during his 20 years of paedophilic offending.

The 49-year-old also had a collection of thousands of indecent and extreme images, including ones where he had Photoshopped the faces of children onto pornographic pictures of women.

Sentencing him to an extended 18-year sentence, a judge at Swansea Crown Court said he posed a significant risk to young girls.

Jim Davies, prosecuting, said John’s offending was only discovered by chance when someone glimpsed an image on his mobile phone which raised their suspicions.

The concerns were reported to police, and an investigation uncovered the shocking truth.

The court heard when police raided his home they found he had 97 computers and other electronic devices, and around 1,000 DVDs and CDs.

Officers uncovered almost 9,000 indecent films and pictures, including one showing him raping an unconscious schoolgirl.

Other clips were of young girls he had secretly recorded.

One of the indecent images was of a girl John was alleged to have sexually assaulted in 2003 – the court heard that at the time the complaint was made, the existence of the image was not known about and the Crown Prosecution Service had taken the decision not to charge the defendant because the case against him was not strong enough.

The court heard that on the various electronic devices recovered, there were large numbers of images of child abuse, including many of the most extreme kind, which John had searched for and downloaded from the internet since 2000.

Officers also found images which John had digitally manipulated, in some cases enhancing the size of breasts on children or superimposing a child’s face onto pornographic pictures of women.

John, of Coronation Avenue, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, had previously pleaded guilty to 20 counts of rape of a child, sexual assault, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, recording a person doing a private act, making an indecent photograph of a child, possession of Category A, B and C indecent photographs, making pseudo-photographs of a child, possession of a prohibited image of a child, and possession of extreme pornographic images when he appeared in the dock for sentencing on Monday, July 20.

He has a previous caution from 2008 for causing a female to engage in sexual activity in relation to another girl: this offence had seen him putting his hand down the front of a teenager’s jeans.

James Hartson, defending John, said given the gravity of the defendant’s offending there was little he could say on his behalf.

Judge Geraint Walters said it was clear John had a “long-standing, entrenched pattern of behaviour” towards young girls going back two decades.

He described the defendant’s treatment of the young girl he had stupefied with alcohol before raping as “wicked”, and said said he had “delighted in filming it graphic detail”.

The judge said he had no doubt John should be considered a dangerous offender in the meaning of the legislation, and as such an extended sentence was “not just desirable but essential”.

Judge Walters told the defendant: “You pose a significant risk to young girls until such time as the underlying causes are dealt with to the point where the risk can be managed.”

John was given an 18-year extended sentence comprising 12 years in custody, and six years on an extended licence. He must serve at least two-thirds of the custodial element before he can apply for parole but he will only be released if the authorities consider he is no longer a danger.

The defendant will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order to control his use of the internet, and his contact with children.

Judge Walters added that the victim of the 2003 assault which was never prosecuted had been let down, but now allegations made by young people and children were treated with the seriousness they deserve – “a change of attitude long-overdue”.

Haverfordwest man pleads guilty to multiple sexual offences

A Haverfordwest man has pleaded guilty to a huge catalogue of sexual offences against children, including the rape of a schoolgirl and possession of more than 9,000 indecent images.

Kevin David John has admitted 20 offences in total – including the rape of a girl under 16 – following a three-month investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police.

The 49-year-old, who appeared at Swansea Crown Court on June 23, came to police attention in April when he was arrested and a search carried out at his Prendergast home.

In total 111 different storage devices were seized – including tablets, laptops and mobile phones – along with almost 1,000 disks.

Specialist officers spent hours combing through huge amounts of data, uncovering substantial evidence of further offending, and John was charged and remanded into custody.

John initially appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court on April 24 where he pleaded guilty to five counts: recording a person doing a private act, sexual assault, causing a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity, and two of taking an indecent photograph of a child.

He later admitted a further 15, which comprised sexual assault, sexual assault by touching, four sexual assaults of a child, rape, possession of Category A, B and C indecent photographs, making Category A, B and C pseudo-photographs of a child, possession of a prohibited image of a child, and possession of extreme pornographic images.

John will appear for sentencing at Swansea Crown Court on July 17.

March 2020

Sexual images requested during smart phone breach

Requests for sexual images were made when a Pembroke Dock man breached a sexual risk order by buying a smart phone, a court has heard.

Tristan Stephen McCauley, of Bush Street, appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, March 17, after previously pleading guilty to breaching a sexual risk order.

Linda Baker, prosecuting, said McCauley, 22, bought a new mobile phone without notifying police as required, between December 16 and February.

He also acquired a cloud storage account and downloaded social media accounts, which he was prohibited from doing by a sexual risk order.

The court heard that a two-year order was imposed following a police caution for engaging in sexual communication with a child and possession of images.

Miss Baker said police executing a search warrant at McCauley’s home on February 26 found a smart phone on his bed, which had Facebook and Snapchat accounts.

Forensic examination of the device found two Category C images of a boy aged between eight and 12.

A Messenger account was discovered in a different name, with more than 500 chat entries to unknown numbers, which included requests for images and videos of a sexual nature.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said McCauley’s had been kept in custody following his arrest, and this was his first appearance in court had been a ‘shock to his system’.

“It’s something he will never forget.”

Mr Kelleher added that McCauley, who had learning difficulties, described himself as being ‘bored and lonely’.

The court heard that McCauley’s mother had given up work since the incident to look after him and support his cooperation with the probation service and police.

After considering a lengthy report, magistrates sentenced McCauley to a two-year community order with 30 rehabilitation activity days and 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge

August 2019

Pembroke Dock man downloaded 6,500 indecent images of children

A Pembroke Dock man has admitted downloading more than 6,500 indecent images of children.

Brett Johnson, of Finch Close, pleaded guilty to two charges of downloading indecent pictures when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, August 27.

The court heard that Johnson, 46, downloaded an indecent photograph of a child between March 30, 2009 and June 28, 2018, and downloaded 6,570 indecent photographs of a child between June 30, 2005 and June 28, 2018.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said one of the pictures was in the more serious Class B category, while the others were all Class C.

“He made a full admission in interview that he had downloaded these images.”

Mark Layton, defending, said: “There is no suggestion that this involved production of these images or distribution.”

He added that Johnson was previously of clean character.

The bench heard that the long date range related to the time Johnson had owned the computer, as it was not always possible to pin-point exact download dates.

Magistrates accepted jurisdiction and adjourned sentencing for a probation report to be completed.

Johnson was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing on September 16

Update: Sentenced to 27 months imprisonment at Swansea crown court.

April 2019

Jail warning for sexual offences against five boys

A Sageston man has been warned a jail sentence could follow after he admitted committing sexual offences against five boys.

Jonathan Harris, aged 24, appeared before Judge Geraint Walters at Swansea crown court on April 18 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Harris, of Bartletts Well Road, admitted inciting the under 16-year-olds to engage in sexual activity and to causing three of them to view indecent images.

All the offending took place during 2017.

His barrister, Jim Davis, said Harris appreciated that the crimes passed the custody threshold and that a prison sentence could be the outcome.

But Judge Walters agreed to postpone sentencing until June 24 to allow a psychologist and a probation officer to prepare reports on Harris.

Judge Walters said it was possible that there could be an alternative to jail.

Harris was granted bail meanwhile, but ordered to register with the police as a sex offender with immediate effect.
