Former police communications chief admits making indecent images of children

A former police communications boss “betrayed his colleagues” by making indecent images of children.

John William Green, known as Will Green, appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Friday to plead guilty to the offence, involving almost 100 indecent still images of children

The 42-year-old had been head of the Cleveland Police Corporate Communications Unit, and previously worked as a corporate communications adviser for Northumbria Police between 2008 and 2013.

Green, now of Morpeth but previously listed at Collingwood Drive, Hexham, was suspended from Cleveland Police on his arrest, and later resigned.

He had previously worked in a communications role at Northumbria Police.

Green appeared in court, wearing a grey suit and white shirt, and spoke only to confirm his name, address, date of birth and to enter a guilty plea.

Prosecutor Ian Martin said Cleveland Police had been made aware of the incident images by the National Crime Agency, but no further details of the case were outlined.

Green will also be subject to the notification requirements following his guilty plea.

He will be sentenced at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on August 24 at 2pm.

Green was granted unconditional bail until he next appears in court.

Northumberland paedophile tried to buy child-like sex doll

A paedophile who bought a sex doll online has now been found guilty of making indecent images of children after the purchase tipped off police.

Malcolm Young was put on the radar of Northumbria Police in 2017 when he attempted to import a 100cm, flat-chested sex doll from China.

The 60-year-old’s purchase was intercepted by Border Force officials who duly informed detectives about their concerns for the package.

Officers visited Young’s home in the East Woodburn area of Northumberland to question him about the purchase and seized his computer and phone.

The electronics were reviewed and shocked officers made a grim discovery when they uncovered indecent images of children on his computer that Young had tried to delete.

Young, of East Woodburn, Northumberland, was charged with four counts of making indecent images of children and one count of tax evasion, concerning the doll.

He denied his guilt and tried to convince a jury at Newcastle Crown Court that he purchased the flat chested small doll, not based on its likeness to a child but because it resembled an athletic female body-type.

The paedophile also claimed that the deleted images found on his device were not his but may have been made by people visiting his home while attending parties.

Following an eight day long trial, a jury found Young guilty of all five counts last Wednesday and he faces jail when he is sentenced later this year.

Predator pensioner likely to die in prison for repeatedly raping seven-year-old girl

A pensioner who subjected a child to a campaign of rape which left her scarred for life has been jailed for 23 years.

John Gillis, 81, believed he had got away with the sickening abuse he carried out many years ago

However, the pensioner has finally been brought to justice and is now likely to die in prison after being told he must serve two-thirds of the 23 years behind bars.

Gillis, known as Jack, received the sentence Newcastle Crown Court and his victim said he will have to carry the shame of being a paedophile “for the rest of your pathetic life”.

The woman, who was seven at the time, said: “He was like a beast on the prowl and I was his prey.

“I felt worthless and have tried to commit suicide several times as I felt I couldn’t live with the shame of what he did.”

She added: “Jack, where you are today, because of your arrogance, you believed yourself invincible but you have been proved wrong and justice has been met.

“You have to carry the brand paedophile for the rest of your life

“May you languish in prison for the rest of your pathetic life.”

Gillis, of Plessey Road, Blyth, Northumberland, was convicted after a trial in May of six counts of rape, three of them when the victim was under 13, and two of indecent assault.

Judge Tim Gittins told him: “You vilely abused her, raping her repeatedly despite the obvious distress and pain you knew you were causing her.”

When the victim tried to tell Gillis’ mother what he had done, when she was 15, she was dismissed and denounced as a liar, the court heard.

Judge Gittins said Gillis did everything he could to create the impression she was making it up.

He added: “You arrogantly dismissed her complaint and, frankly, dismissed her as a human being.

“There has been no shame from you, no contrition.

“Even when cornered in cross-examination, you still sought to blame her, telling the court she was coming on to you.”

Judge Gittins said the truth is now out as a result of the victim’s courage.

He added: “You were a paedophile and a serial rapist of her and she is a survivor but at an almost catastrophic cost to almost every aspect of her life.

As well as the prison sentence, Gillis will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

A “dangerous” paedophile teacher who used alter-egos online to trick at least 27 boys into filming themselves performing sex acts has been jailed for 17 years.

Dean Davidson, 38, admitted 18 sexual offences over 10 years, including possession of indecent images of children, online exploitation of young teenagers and indecently touching boys

The defendant, of Brockwood Court, Ashington, Northumberland, taught in various schools in the North East of England and “posed as a good-looking blonde girl” online, according to one of his victims.

Depending on the sexuality of his victims, he used a male alter-ego, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Davidson held his head in his hands during the sentencing hearing as statements from 27 victims were heard.

Andrew Epsley, prosecuting, said Davidson was “a dangerous offender” who tricked some of his victims, now adults, after contacting them on social media.

In some cases, he posed as a sexually adventurous older girl, and cajoled them into performing sexual acts on camera.

Davidson, without their knowledge, made recordings of those videos, the court heard.

The victim only realised the deception when detectives approached him and showed him video of himself as a boy aged around 13 performing sex acts.

Officers had recovered the video from Davidson’s electronic devices.

The victim said: “I had been enticed by who I thought was a girl showing me attention at a very early age.

“Over the years it had been casual, friendly, on occasions flirtatious and sexual.

“I feel deceived and misled.”

Another victim said he felt anxious in public in case Davidson had shared videos of him as a young teen, adding he felt “violated”.

And another said he recalled making friends online with that he thought was a girl who asked him to do “weird things – stuff I would never dream of doing as an adult”.

Judge Sarah Mallett sentenced him to serve 17 years in jail, with a six-year extended period.

Davidson was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which will place restrictions on him on his release from prison and will have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. He was also barred from working with children.

Referring to his victims, she said: “Several of them have described their lives, as a result, are in ruins.”

Paedophile told undercover cop ‘age is just a number’ while grooming schoolgirl

A paedophile snared in an online sting told an undercover police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl that ‘age is just a number’.

John MacDonald believed he was chatting with a schoolgirl named Paige and bombarded her with ‘highly sexualised’ messages on the Kik app in July 2018.

The married 47-year-old described in explicit detail how they could have ‘fun’ together and tried to talk her into performing sex acts, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Emma Dowling said: ‘She said she was a virgin and one of his comments was “You want your first time to be memorable, that’s why you should do it with an older man, someone with more experience who can give you pleasure in different ways”.’

MacDonald, from Ancroft, Northumberland, was traced via his IP address.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and making an indecent photograph of a child in relation to an image found on one of his devices.

Judge Paul Sloan QC jailed him for 26 months.

He said MacDonald’s messages were ‘highly sexualised’, telling him: ‘You told her age was just a number.’

MacDonald, who has a previous conviction in 2007 for distributing indecent images, was also made subject of a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
