Orpington thug jailed for trying to burn his ‘princess’ at house in Sittingbourne

A father-of-three wrapped a duvet around his partner who he called his “princess” and then set it alight

Bullying Jack Locke only threw the burning cover into the garden after his terrified ex-girlfriend from Milton Regis, Sittingbourne began to burn

It was just one in a line of “nasty” incidents during a three-day period in April, including threatening to petrol bomb her home and attacking her in revenge after she gave a statement to police, Maidstone Crown Court was told.

Now the 27-year-old has been jailed for two years and five months after he admitted a variety of offences, including arson, assaults, taking revenge and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Yet his victim later wrote to him saying: “I loved you so much, why did you have to hurt me? I am so scared you are going to kill me but I still love you.”

The court heard how after Locke attempted suicide, his partner called the ambulance service to help him but he became aggressive and the paramedics alerted police.

Locke was quizzed about the arson and the assaults and was bailed on condition he didn’t go to his victim’s home – but he ignored that.

He demanded to be let in and “got in her face” telling her how stupid she was and then bruised her ribs as she was curled up in the foetal position as he punched her.

Locke told her “you need to withdraw your statement otherwise I am going down for a long time” and he forced her to send a message to the investigating officer.

Judge Julian Smith said police then “smelled a rat” and went to her home where neighbours revealed they had fled at night over a garden fence to Penge where they were found by officers.

Locke, formerly of St Mary’s Cray and now of Shorne Close, Orpington, and his former lover had been in an “on-off” relationship for a number of years and had lived together in Sittingbourne.

Prosecutor James Benson told the court how on April 21 the two were watching a TV programme about hospitals – which led to an argument between them involving treatment of one of their children.

“She found the comments upsetting and it led to a row and she told the defendant to go and he left. She then told him he was no longer welcome at her house.

“He returned angry and accused her of putting him out onto the street. As she sat on the sofa he put his forehead against hers and [swore at her].”

Locke then threw a mobile phone at her, which struck his victim on the left thigh and the phone was also damaged.

“He went upstairs and packed his bags returning with a duvet cover and told her: ‘Watch this we are going to burn together!’

“He then put the duvet over them both and set light to the corner with a lighter. It started to burn and she later described how she could feel the heat on her legs.

“He then put out the flames and said: ‘This is what I mean… you just think I am joking’.”

Mr Benson said that two days later, Locke threw a lighter at his victim cutting her left wrist before punching her in her thigh, causing bruising.

He later tried to put his arm around her but she told him: “You’ve hurt me, there’s no going back”.

The bully then picked up a kitchen knife and held it towards her, telling her: “Stay there or I will really **** you up!”

Locke then punched a wall, leaving a large dent, after telling her: “You’re lucky that wasn’t your head!”

And after pouring whisky from a bottle on the floor, he added “Watch… I am going to burn the place down” – which led to the victim fleeing the house.

Update: Now living in Maidenhead

June 2011

Seven years for sex attacker trapped by DNA after 20 years

A sex attacker who assaulted a woman two decades ago has been jailed after detectives cracked the cold case.

Mario Sardo was 23 years old when he assaulted his victim in a car park close to Chessington World of Adventures on Sunday April 8, 1990.

He was arrested in February this year after a case review in 2010 when his DNA, found on the victim, was matched through the national database.

At the Old Bailey, the 44-year-old was handed seven years for false imprisonment and five years for indecent assault to serve concurrently.

The sentence will begin once he has finished serving his current 18-month sentence for a 2010 assault against another woman.

Sardo assaulted his victim as she waited for a taxi to take her home from a work function in Croydon.

The taxi did not arrive and Sardo offered her a lift, but instead of dropping her off at home he drove her to a secluded car park where he carried out his attack.

DNA evidence was recovered but at the time, but police could not match it to a suspect and so stored it until a review by the Sapphire Team last year.

Sardo was found guilty of indecent assault and false imprisonment at the Old Bailey on Friday, June 10.

Enfield man jailed for making indecent images of children

A man has been jailed after he was found in possession of hundreds of indecent images of children, as well as making over one hundred indecent images.

Robert Inglis, 62,of Enfield, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on April 29 to three years in prison.

He was also handed a 12 year sexual harm prevention order and life on the sexual offenders register.

He pleaded guilty at the same court in February to three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of distribution of indecent images of children, and three counts of encouraging others to commit offences.

An investigation was launched following intelligence received by the Metropolitan Police that showed that a number of category A, B and C indecent images of children had been uploaded to the internet. Intel linked this to Inglis.

A search warrant was obtained and in October 2018, detectives from the major crimes unit raided an address in Enfield.

During the search of his address, Inglis was arrested and a number of his devices were seized. He was taken to a north London police station.

Following a complex investigation, Inglis was subsequently charged with making 49 category A child abuse images, 28 category B images and 44 category C images.

Inglis disclosed during interview that he had forwarded the indecent images of children on to other people. He was subsequently charged with distributing 55 indecent images.

Owing to clear communications between Inglis and other persons, he was charged with three further counts of encouraging/assisting in the commission of an either way offence believing it will be committed.

Benjamin Hannam – Edmonton

April 2021

Ex-police officer jailed for belonging to neo-Nazi group

The first police officer in Britain to be convicted of a terrorism offence was jailed for more than four years on Friday for belonging to a banned neo-Nazi group, possessing extremist material and child sexual abuse images

Benjamin Hannam, 22, of Edmonton, north London who had worked as a probationary police constable with the London Metropolitan Police, was found guilty earlier this month of belonging to National Action.

The group was outlawed after it praised the murder of Jo Cox, a female member of parliament who was killed in a street attack in 2016 by a Nazi-obsessed loner.

Hanman was also convicted of lying on his police application forms and owning terrorism documents. He had previously admitted possessing indecent images of a child.

Hanman, who was dismissed from the force after his conviction, was sentenced on Friday to four years and four months in jail at London’s Old Bailey court.

“Benjamin Hannam lied on his police application and vetting forms in an attempt to hide his dangerous and racist beliefs,” said Jenny Hopkins, Head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division.

Hannam was first known to have become involved with National Action in early 2016, six months before it became the first far-right group to be outlawed in Britain since World War Two.

But he continued with his involvement in it, and with its offshoot NS131 after the government proscribed it.

He lied about having any involvement with a far-right group on his application to join the police in 2018.

Detectives discovered his links in February 2020 following the leak of a database of members of a far-right online forum, Iron March.

At his home, officers found a notebook referring to the far-right group, a guide on how to use knives and weapons, and the manifesto of Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011 in Norway’s worst peacetime atrocity.

Detectives found Hannam had attended National Action meetings in pubs, taken part in training events, and appeared in online videos after the group was banned, but that there was nothing to suggest he had continued contact after joining the police.

Man who raped girl on her way to school jailed

A man who kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl as she made her way to school has received a 20-year sentence.

Sex predator Kadian Nelson forced her into an alley in Mitcham, south-west London, on 3 November, Kingston Crown Court heard.

The girl was speaking to a friend on the phone when Nelson placed a hand “incredibly tightly” around her mouth.

Part of Nelson’s sentence related to a separate domestic-related assault which took place on 11 October and for which he was previously convicted.

Police were called shortly after 07:00hrs on Tuesday, 3 November 2020 after a member of the public saw Nelson grab the 13-year-old girl in North Place, Mitcham.

He had crept up on her from behind as she walked to school before forcing her into an alleyway in a housing estate, where he then attacked her.

Nelson was chased off mid-attack after a girl, 10, saw him snatch his victim.

Nelson fled the scene, leaving the victim cloaked in his jacket, which he had draped over her.

He was caught after being recognised in footage put on social media.

Prosecutor Nneka Akudolu said the defendant had been “prowling around” while wearing a pair of rubber gloves shortly before he grabbed his victim.

“The call was still connected to her friend and the girl could be heard saying to the defendant: ‘I’ll pay you, take all my money, take all my belongings, just leave me alone’,” Ms Akudolu said.

The ordeal was interrupted by a member of the public, who went to check what had happened. Nelson claimed the victim was his sister and tried to walk away with her, but the woman continued to follow and filmed Nelson and the victim on her mobile phone.

Nelson then fled the scene, leaving the victim cloaked in his jacket, which he had draped over her.

Police attended and an area search was conducted, but he was not found. An investigation was started immediately, led by the South West Public Protection Unit.

In the meantime, a video of Nelson approaching and abducting the victim began to circulate on social media, provoking a fierce reaction from the public. A number of groups of people began to search for Nelson at his, and some of his relatives home addresses, and there were serious police concerns that he would be physically harmed.

The 13-year-old girl appeared at the hearing to read her impact statement. She said the attack had affected her “ability to do very simple everyday things now, such as go to school or be able to be independent”.

Nelson, from Tooting, previously pleaded guilty to rape, kidnap and threats to kill.

The court heard he had previous convictions for drugs offences and making threats with an offensive weapon. In mitigation, Nelson’s solicitor said the 26-year-old had no previous convictions for sexual offences.

Judge John Lodge gave Nelson a sentence made up of a 12-year jail term and an extension period of eight years, adding that “this shameful and shocking incident could have been even worse” but for the intervention of the two witnesses.

Pervert, 27, pleads guilty after kidnapping girl, 13, and raping her in horrific attack as she walked to school

A vile pervert has pleaded guilty after kidnapping a 13-year-old girl and raping her in an alleyway.

The young girl was walking to school in Mitcham, London when she was targeted in the horrific attack in November last year.

Kadian Nelson, 27, today admitted kidnap, rape and making a threat to kill  at Kingston Crown Court.

The court heard he followed the schoolgirl before creeping up behind her and putting one hand over her mouth and another on her head.

He then threatened to kill her and forced her to walk towards an alleyway in Mitcham.

The girl had been on the phone chatting to a friend about their homework when she was attacked just after 7am.

Nelson told her to take off her coat and school blazer before orally raping her. He then put his own jacket on the victim.

Police were alerted when a woman called 999 stating that her daughter had seen a man grab a young girl.

A family member of the woman then went out to check what had happened and managed to interrupt Nelson.

When she questioned him he told her that the victim was his sister.

The victim then managed to signal that she needed help before police arrived and Nelson fled, leaving the victim wearing his jacket.

Kate Shilton, from the CPS, said: “This was a terrifying stranger attack on a young girl on her way to school.

“The prosecution was able to present compelling evidence that made clear that it was Kadian Nelson who had carried out this sickening attack.

“The prosecution case included video footage and DNA evidence from the lighter and tobacco pouch found inside Nelson’s jacket pocket, which he left behind.

“The victim was also able to identify him in an ID parade. These guilty pleas will mean that Nelson’s young victim will be spared the ordeal of giving evidence in court.

“I would like to thank the members of the family who saw what happened and took quick action in alerting the police to the incident.

“The young victim has shown remarkable courage during these proceedings and I hope this conviction will go some way to providing her with closure.

“Sexual offences are some of the most serious and complex cases to prosecute.

“The CPS is committed to bringing sexual offenders to justice where there is the evidence to do so.”

At the time of the attack Scotland Yard were forced to warn people not to “take the law into their own hands” after the case gained traction on social media.

Crowds of locals visited various addresses and police said “emotions are running high”.

The Met issued an emergency Section 60 dispersal order – giving officers the power to search anyone and instruct them to leave the area.

Nelson was arrested just hour after the attack in Tooting.

He will be sentenced at the same court on August 13.
