Margate pervert sexually assaulted teen girl then claimed he had been sleepwalking

A drink and drug-fuelled paedophile molested his victim as she slept – then told police he “was probably sleepwalking”.

But Stewart Tollan, of Margate, later denied attacking the 16-year-old altogether, claiming she fabricated the allegation.

The 39-year-old was yesterday convicted of sexual assault after a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

Judge Mark Weekes told Tollan he was a “predatory paedophile” who “lied to the jury” and must expect at least four years in custody.

He saluted the girl’s strength and courage in confronting her abuser without a screen, as she gave evidence just six metres away.

The girl told jurors how she woke up with Tollan preying on her after she fell asleep in front of the television at a mutual acquaintance’s home, at 4am in 2019.

After freezing with fear she managed to flee the property once Tollan, who had been bingeing on alcohol and cocaine, fell asleep.

The jury took just one hour to unanimously convict Tollan, prompting his victim to describe how she was left wrought with trust issues, insomnia and “riddled with anxiety”.

“What he did was shape me into the person I never wanted to become. I never wanted to suffer depression – he did that to me,” she said.

After sniffing six lines of cocaine and drinking about ten pints of cider alongside spirits, Tollan turned his attention to the sleeping girl.

She would go on to tell detectives how she “froze” and repeatedly asked herself “why me?” during the attack.

“I couldn’t make any noises, all I could do was slowly move and then I was frozen,” she said.

“When you are in that situation it’s different.

“You think you will punch him or think ‘I will get away’ – but you’ve got no control, you just freeze,” she continued.

Asked what went through her mind mid-assault, she added: “Why is he doing this to me? Why me? Why is this happening?”

Tollan, of St Johns Crescent, would go on to claim a sleeping disorder caused him to molest the girl but dropped the defence before trial.

“The defendant said he sleepwalks and this happened while he was sleepwalking,” prosecutor Daniel Stevenson explained.

“He said he sleepwalks a lot and has sleepwalked out of (his) house,” he added.

Tollan then dragged the girl through the courts, reducing the trial to his word against hers, arguing she was “mistaken.”

But Mr Stevenson revealed Tollan’s sordid past which centred on him grooming and having sex with two young girls as an adult, and harrassing another for intercourse in a graveyard.

Tollan was only convicted for the harassment in 2015.

Following his conviction on Thursday Tollan, represented by Allan Goh, could be seen bowing his head, gulping and taking deep breaths.

Judge Weekes told him to expect “at least four years” in prison when he is sentenced on September 17, as probation prepares reports into potential dangerousness.

Former paramedic jailed for turning up at Rochester supermarket car park to meet child for sex

A 60-year-old paramedic who turned up to a supermarket car park hoping to meet a mother and then ‘sexually abuse her 10-year-old child in the most abhorrent ways’ has been jailed.

Maurice Clayton was arrested last year after travelling 30 miles to meet a woman he believed would allow him access to her young daughter, who he intended to sexually abuse.

Clayton, 60, met the woman through a pornographic website in September last year. He believed her to be the mother of a 10-year-old girl, when in fact, he was talking to Kent Police.

The unwitting Clayton continued to speak to the woman through a separate social media site, and made repeated comments about his intentions to commit ‘serious sexual offences’ against the child. Within these conversations he also shared indecent images.

But waiting for him at the site in Rochester were undercover police officers who found indecent items in his motorcycle bag.

Now married Maurice Clayton has been jailed for two years after admitting five sex offences, including arranging to meet a child for sex.

Clayton, of Oakland Lane, Biggin Hill was told by the judge that anyone listening to the facts “could feel nothing but revulsion and anger.”

Maidstone Crown Court heard how undercover officers had set up a sting operation on a porn website.

Prosecutor Bridget Todd said that an officer posed as a single woman called Jodie living in Chatham, with a 10-year-old daughter called Millie.

The court heard that although the site is used legitimately, it also attracts paedophiles, including Clayton using the name “Mole999”.

The medic had been on the site for 841 days and claimed to live in south-east London and Kent.

Clayton began asking sexual questions about Jodie and Millie, telling the undercover officer that he was married “but his wife didn’t know about his sexual interests,” added Ms Todd.

He then told her about his desires sickening detail and told her he worked for the ambulance service, sending two photographs of a paramedic on a motorcycle.

Clayton also boasted about talking with other 13-year-old girls – but had been “stood up many times”.

Genevieve Reed, defending, said Clayton studied for a paramedic degree after leaving school and had worked for the ambulance service for 36 years.

Judge Charles Gratwicke told him: “Nobody sitting in this court and hearing the circumstances of these offences and your conversations could feel anything but revulsion and anger.”

He said children were “entitled to their childhood and innocence and entitled to be protected from people like yourself.”

Clayton was put on the Sex Offender’s Register for 10 years.

Dover paedophile jailed after trying to order sick images from printers

A depraved paedophile from Dover has been jailed after a printing company that he attempted to order sick images from reported him to the police.

The tip-off from the printers then helped officers uncover serious sexual offences he committed against very young children said Kent Police.

Phillip Bassett has now been jailed for 12 years and nine months, and will serve a further five years and three months on license after that period.

The order that led the printers to contact the police was made in July 2020, at which point staff noted the concerning content of the photos and called police.

Kent Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team then commenced an investigation into Bassett.

A search warrant was executed at his home, and a mobile phone was seized, which contained several videos of Bassett abusing a child.

In addition, he admitted accessing the dark web to view indecent images of children and also stated he had ordered the indecent images to be sent to the company for printing.

Following his arrest and an extensive investigation, Bassett was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, two accounts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, taking indecent images of children, making an indecent image of a child and possession of indecent images of children.

He admitted 15 charges before Canterbury Crown Court on December 8, 2020, and was formally sentenced on June 16.

Former police officer claims he was bombarded with indecent images after trying to join paedophile hunters

A former police officer claimed he was “bombarded” with images – including sick photos of children as young as one – after trying to become a paedophile hunter.

Neil Bowdery said he had met a man called ‘James’ because he wanted to join the hunting group

But when asked why he didn’t report the illegal messages to his iPhone said he had romantic feelings towards the man and feared driving him away.

A judge has now heard how when police seized a mobile phone belonging to another pervert, they discovered Bowdery’s telephone number on it.

Prosecutor Naomi Perry told Maidstone Crown Court: “Police officers engaged in dealing with indecent images seized a mobile phone.

“After looking at that phone they discovered a link to the defendant, who had been communicating by chat and that images had been sent to Bowdery.”

She said the ex-cop asked if the other man had “any nice pics lately” and “Do you have any to send.”

Ms Perry said the two men then talked about children and Bowdery sent the man a lewd message about his daughter.

Officers later discovered Bowdery had received an image of a girl.

The prosecutor added that Bowdery then asks if it would be “OK” to message the child?

In February or March 2020 he messaged a woman asking: “Any chance of some w****** material today LOL?”

Bowdery, formerly of Goldstone Walk, Chatham, was raided by police in September last year when his iPhone, containing the illegal images, was taken.

Bowdery later told investigators that he was an ex-police officer and “in the course of his work, he had come across a man who claimed to be a paedophile hunter,” said the prosecutor.

She added: “There was a man, given the name of James, who had sent him Category A nude images.

“He said he had bombarded him with images. Bowdery said he was doing all this to become a paedophile hunter.”

The prosecutor said that in a later interview, Bowdery said he had “got involved with this man and didn’t feel able to challenge him.”

Bowdery said the other man had sent him “shed loads of images” but not all of children.

His interviewer asked: “Why didn’t you report him?” and Bowdery replied: “Because of the bi (sexual) thing. I know I should have done it but I didn’t want him losing interest in me.”

The 37-year-old, who now works at a garden centre, admitted possessing nine images of children on his phone, across all three categories of seriousness.

He was given a 15-month jail sentence suspended for a year, ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work for the community and has been made subject of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The Judge, Recorder James Dawson, said: “You know in your own mind that this was totally unacceptable behaviour.”

In 2013, he was cleared of allowing a schizophrenic man to die in front of him as he tried to return him to hospital.

Paedophile who abused child after grooming with Disney film jailed after being caught with indecent images at Deal home

A dangerous convicted paedophile told a court he was “glad” to be caught with horrific images of children because he was on the verge of hunting and abusing a new victim.

Allan Spratt admitted his plans after police raided his Deal home to uncover the disgusting library on his Samsung phone.

The 46-year-old has now been jailed at Canterbury Crown Court for two years and five months.

“In police interview he said he was glad he was caught because he was on a slippery slope to commit a contact offence with a child,” prosecutor Robin Griffith said.

Spratt was convicted of raping a child 12 years ago.

Posing as a 13-year-old boy online, the married predator groomed a girl over a number of months, convincing her he was “her boyfriend.”

When they exchanged pictures he claimed to suffer from a rare disease that made him look older.

He would soon tell the girl he loved her and convinced her to go on a shopping trip to Sheffield.

Spratt took her to see a Disney film and for a meal, then persuaded her to stay with him in a budget hotel, raping her three times.

Spratt was arrested after telling a family member about his actions and then pleaded guilty to rape in 2010.

He was sentenced to six years and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Kent Police received a tip-off in December last year that Spratt was downloading indecent images from his mother’s house.

After raiding the property Spratt, who runs an eBay business, told officers he felt on the verge of making contact with a child.

Police found category A, B and C images, a combination of pictures and videos.

They also discovered Spratt had made persistent “systematic” internet searches using chilling terms like ‘jailbait.’

Judge Mark Weekes told Spratt he had been “absolutely blatant”, and highlighted “the misery” caused to the victims of those children in the images.

Following his latest round of offences, Spratt, of Westerhout Close, Deal, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images, three counts of making indecent images, a breach of notification requirements and breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Paedophile posed as a teenager to abuse girl

A pervert enrolled on an internet chat site for teenagers and befriended a young girl who he later abused

Allan Spratt masqueraded as a schoolboy using a bogus photo to register in the spring this year and lured the 14-year-old from Yorkshire to meet him through first the chat line then via conversations and texts on their mobile phones, and ended up having sex with her in a hotel.

Spratt, 34, of Westerhout Close, Deal, but formerly of Cuckoo Lane, Ashford, appeared for sentence at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted three offences of meeting a child following sexual grooming and two of sexual activity with a child.

He was committed for sentence from Folkestone magistrates for six offences of having indecent photos of a child.

But after reading of Spratt’s comment to a probation officer describing his behaviour as a ‘bit of fun’, Judge Adele Williams adjourned sentence for a psychiatric report and remanded Spratt in custody until sentencing in February.

Denzil Pugh, prosecuting, said at one point the girl began to suspect she was not talking to a young boy because of some of the sexual comments, so Spratt changed tack and claimed to be 23 and continued pursuing the relationship.

“Eventually he persuaded the girl to meet up with him, she having deluded herself she had formed some kind of serious relationship with him assisted by his lies, and he drove to the north of England and took her out for the day in August.

“They had a meal and went to a cinema then ended up at a hotel. Spratt went prepared with condoms and convinced the girl age should be no barrier as they were truly in love and sex could properly follow even if it was against the law in those circumstances. Sex took place that night and the next day,” said Mr Pugh.

Spratt arranged another meeting the same month and again he stayed overnight but nothing happened. On August 29, he drove to Yorkshire and again took her to a hotel and had sex this time without protection per- suading her that because of her menstrual cycle, pregnancy was not a risk.

A friend of the victim’s family noticed how down in the dumps she was and the girl confessed what had been happening and the police were informed.

In interview Spratt admitted he joined the teenage chat line because he felt more at ease with younger people rather than people of his own age and it developed from that point. “He could not get to grips with the idea he was a predatory paedophile”, said Mr Pugh.

About the same time, Spratt’s wife was also having suspicions about her husband’s behaviour because he was locking himself away for hours with his computer and suspicious that his absences were not in relation to his work as a driver.

The girl’s name had cropped up and he had suggested she was his child and he needed to go up for DNA testing.

There was an argument which became violent and he was cautioned for battery. He was thrown out of the house.

She came across young girls’ underwear in a carrier bag, introductory size sanitary protection, a quantity of creche registration cards and CCTV coverage from a creche and she took these items to the police. She also handed in a DVD found in a envelope.

It contained 22 indecent images of children and further images were found on his computer and phone.

He was further questioned and said he started to watch child porn on the computer about a year before and had stored images from a file sharing site. “It is not suggested there was any distribution of those images,” said Mr Pugh.

Spratt had convictions for theft when he was working for the post office.

Both the victim and her mother had made victim impact statements in which their distress was apparent and long term damage may have been caused, said Judge Williams.

Judge Williams indicated her concerns about expressions used by Spratt when a pre-sentence report was being prepared and ordered the psychiatric report.
