Llandovery teen admits making and distributing indecent images of children

A pervert from Llandovery has appeared for sentence at Swansea Crown Court after admitting to making and distributing indecent images of children.

Rhys Long, of Cynghordy, Llandovery, had previously indicated a guilty plea

The 19-year-old admitted making almost 200 images with 40 of them falling into Category A – the most extreme category – showing the rape or torture of young children

25 extreme pornographic images depicting bestiality were also found.

Long also admitted distributing the above images to other like minded perverts online.

Allegations of child grooming were also made by several young victims. However, no charges were made.

Long was not jailed but instead received a suspended sentence.

A sexual harm prevention order was put in place and he was told to register as a sex offender immediately

Dean Jeffreys – Llanelli

Pervert offered ’12-year-old girl’ £150 for naked pictures and then tried to blackmail her

A man offered to pay what he believed were 12-year-old girls to send him naked pictures of themselves.

Dean Jeffreys contacted his targets on social media, and began grooming them and trying to get them to take intimate photographs and to engage in sexual activity.

But the 25-year-old was actually communicating with undercover investigators working as part of a policing operation targeting online offenders.

Swansea Crown Court heard that in November and December 2019 Jeffreys approached what appeared to be young girls called Holly and Sophie on the Kik platform.

Tom Scapens, prosecuting, said Holly and Sophie were actually decoy profiles being run by adults working for National Crime Agency.

He said the decoys made it clear to Jeffreys they were aged just 12 but he began asking them if they wanted £150, and asked them to send him intimate photos of themselves in return for the money, money he said he would send via Amazon or PayPal accounts.

When the “girls” expressed concerns about doing what he was asking the defendant promised them they would be safe, and told them it would be their “little secret”.

Mr Scapens said Jeffreys effectively “begged” one of the girls for pictures, saying to her “please, please, please with a cherry on top”.

The court heard Jeffreys was particularly persistent with the decoy called Sophie, repeatedly putting pressure on her to send pictures and calling her his “little princess”, and saying they were in a relationship.

He also engaged in a series of sexualised phone conversations with her.

The prosecutor said that at one stage Sophie sent a photograph to Jeffreys – actually a picture of the exposed midriff of a woman over 18 but who looked much younger – and the defendant then started using that image to try to blackmail the decoy.

Mr Scapens said the defendant embarked on a “campaign of grooming, bullying, harassment and threats” which saw him repeatedly telling Sophie he would post the image on Facebook for all her friends to see unless she sent him more intimate pictures.

Jeffreys then began telling the decoy she was his “slave” and had to do what he told her, and saying she would be “rewarded for being good or be punished for being a bad girl”.

The prosecutor said that throughout all this, the defendant had genuinely believed he was talking to a 12-year-old girl.

The court heard that police traced the address linked to the phone number Jeffreys had been using, and then went to the property in Llanelli where he was living with his parents and other family members.

When challenged by police the defendant told them about an app he had been using which was “just role playing”, adding: “I don’t know why but it turns me on.”

Jeffreys, of Princess Court, Llanelli, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child, and two counts of attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.

Judge Geraint Walters said a pre-sentence report had concluded that Jeffreys potentially posed a danger to children, and he said he hoped work could be undertaken in the custodial setting which would reduce that risk.

In coming to his sentence the judge said he had in mind a recent ruling from the Court of Appeal about cases involving decoys rather than real children, and about the intended harm of the offending not the actual harm caused.

He said the message needed to be heard that as a result of the decision of the court people who engaged in such behaviour could now expect sentences which were “significantly longer” than before.

Giving Jeffreys the required one-third discount for his guilty pleas the judge sentenced him to two years and four months in prison.

The defendant will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence under the UK government’s early release scheme to serve the remainder in the community.

Jeffreys will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years, and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order to control his access to the internet for a similar length of time.

Judge Walters also called the delay in the case coming to court “unacceptable”.

April 2021

Paedophile caught by two separate decoys trying to groom girls online

A man was caught by two separate decoy groups attempting to incite people he thought were teenage girls to take part in sexual activity.

Groups called Fleetwood Enforcers UK and Justice For The Tears set up fake profiles on a dating website called WapLog and both were messaged by Martin Miller

Swansea Crown Court was told how Miller engaged with a decoy, run by the Fleetwood group, who purported to be a 13-year-old girl.

A picture was used on the fictional girl’s profile given with consent by a member of the public.

Miller was told the girl was 13 and from the Chesterfield area and the conversation built up a rapport before steering towards a sexual nature.

The 42-year-old began asking her to perform acts of a sexual nature and asked her what she was wearing, telling her the next day in another conversation that if she was older he would want to have sexual intercourse with her.

In his conversation with the second decoy the court heard how Miller sent a picture of a couple kissing and said he would “kiss her like that”.

Further conversations saw him sent extreme sexually explicit messages. He also told her: “I really like you and I want you as a gf (girlfriend)” and sent a sexually explicit image.

Police were notified of Miller’s actions and he was arrested. He told officers: “I have done it. I am so f****** stupid.”

A search was carried out at his home in Brynhafod, Tycroes, Ammanford, and police recovered a black Motorola mobile phone and a Samsung tablet.

He was interviewed at Ammanford police station and was subsequently charged with the offences.

Miller appeared for sentencing having pleaded guilty to six counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and a further count of attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

The offences took place between June 15, 2019, and August 6, 2019.

Miller was jailed for two years and four months and must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Elvis Presley – Carmarthen

Paedophile called Elvis Presley arranged to meet 14-year-old for sex after asking for her used panties

A paedophile arranged to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex after grooming her online, a court has heard.

Elvis Aron Presley Jr had spent the previous fortnight sending a series of explicit messages to the girl in which he encouraged her to perform sex acts on herself and to send him a pair of her used and unwashed panties.

But when the convicted sex offender turned up for the arranged meeting he found himself detained by members of a paedophile hunter group.

Swansea Crown Court heard that in December 2019 a “decoy” account purporting to be that of a 14-year-old girl contacted Presley on Instagram.

Jim Davis, prosecuting, said the decoy began by asking the defendant if he really was Elvis Presley Jr, to which the defendant replied he was.

Over the following days the decoy and the 55-year-old defendant had a series of conversations which soon turned sexual in nature.

The court heard that despite the decoy telling Presley on a number of occasions that she was aged 14 the defendant talked to her about sex toys, encouraged her to perform sex acts on herself, and asked for a pair of her used and unwashed panties.

Mr Davis said that on December 31 Presley talked to the girl about her going to his flat in Carmarthen and arrangements were made to meet up later that week.

When he turned up at the rendezvous point in the town he was met and detained by members of the paedophile hunter group.

Police were called and a search of the defendant’s nearby flat found he had “sex objects” in his bedroom including vibrators and Velcro handcuffs

Presley, of Nott Square, Carmarthen, admitted attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming.

The offences are charged as the “attempt” form of the offences because there was no actual child involved.

The court heard he has a conviction from Southampton Magistrates’ Court in 2007 for sending indecent or offensive messages and convictions for four counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 from Norwich Crown Court from 2011 – these offences relate to sexual assaults he carried out on a young girl in the 1980s.

At the time of the Carmarthen offences he was on the sex offenders register as a result of the Norwich conviction.

Judge Paul Thomas QC said it was clear Presley had believed he was communicating with a real 14-year-old girl when he arranged to meet and had “made preparations for sex” with her.

Giving the defendant a one-quarter discount for his guilty pleas the judge sentenced him to a total of 27 months in prison.

Presley will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence.

The defendant was made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will be a registered sex offender for the same length of time.

Michael Powell – Llandovery

August 2020

College worker downloaded ‘unspeakably appalling’ photos of babies being sexually abused

A former worker at a Welsh college has been exposed as a “committed paedophile” who downloaded sickening images of children and babies being sexually abused and for also possessing ‘paedophile manuals’ which show a step by step guide on ‘how to abuse young kids’

Some of the youngsters being sexually tortured for Michael Ian Powell’s perverted pleasure were as young as just one month old, the court heard.

Former Llandovery College staff member Powell also downloaded so-called “paedophile manuals” from the dark web containing instructions on how to sexually abuse children.

Swansea Crown Court heard 59-year-old Powell was arrested after police raided his home shortly before 8am on October 24 last year.

Sophie Hill, prosecuting, said officers seized a number of electronic devices, and on them found almost 3,500 indecent pictures of videos of children from categories A – the most extreme kind – B and C.

Police also found Powell had downloaded so-called “paedophile manuals” from the internet – one was a guide on how to “obtain and hide a little girl for the purposes of exploitation”, and one was an illustrated guide on how to sexually abuse girls aged between three and six.

Further examination of the devices found Powell had also taken part in sick online group chats, and shared an image of a child being abused with other paedophiles.

The prosecutor said the defendant, who has two grown-up children, made “full and frank admissions” to officers about what he had been doing.

Powell, of High Street, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children, one of distributing an indecent category A image, and one of possessing a paedophile manual, a relatively new offence created under the Serious Crime Act 2015.

The defence barrister said that though Powell had been divorced from his wife for many years she had attended court – though not come into the courtroom itself – to support her former husband in a “personal capacity” in what he described as a demonstration of “remarkable generosity of spirit”.

Judge Geraint Walters described the images Powell had downloaded as “unspeakably appalling”, and said they were “amongst the most disturbing I have personally had to deal with”.

He said: “How a father of two children can possibly not see the damage which looking at images like these causes children is something I find hard to fathom.

“You were committed to viewing for sexual pleasure other people’s children being gravely sexually abused.

“You can properly be described as a committed paedophile. The reality is you are going to have to battle that condition for the rest of your life.”

Giving the defendant the required one-third discount for his guilty pleas the judge sentenced him to a total of two years in prison. Powell will serve up to a half of that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.

The defendant will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same length of time to control his access to the internet.
