Yeovil man who molested young girl said ‘snitches would get stitches’

A man who raped a woman and had sexual activity with a child has been jailed.

Alan Barney, 29, of Roseberry Avenue in Yeovil, abused the girl, aged 13, in a home near Bristol

Bristol Crown Court heard it was a month after he forced himself on a woman at her home.

Barney pleaded guilty to rape and sexual activity with a child.

The recorder Mr Malcolm Gibney jailed him for eight years and nine months.

He said: “These two episodes were appalling and devastating both for the woman and, obviously, to the younger girl.”

Barney was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, designed to stop him reoffending, and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Richard Posner, prosecuting, said the child froze when Barney was sexually intimate with her.

The distressed child told her mum: “I wanted to say no but no words came.”

Barney told police “snitches would get stitches”, the court heard.

He made a prepared statement denying wrongdoing before answering no comment to other questions.

Mr Posner said it transpired that, a month before the sexual activity with a child, Barney raped a woman in her home.

She made an impact statement in which she said the rape changed her life and, as well as physical pain, had left her suffering nightmares and flashbacks and receiving counselling.

Pervert handed suspended jail term for downloading Kik messenger app on his phone

A Knowle man spared custody after downloading child abuse images admitted breaching conditions of his sentence.

In 2018 Daniel Rogers was handed a community order following a conviction for both making and distributing the images.

As part of his sentence he was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), designed to stop reoffending, involving restrictions to his internet use.

Bristol Crown Court heard he breached the SHPO by installing, and then deleting, peer-to-peer messaging software on his iPhone.

Rogers, 23, of Axbridge Road, pleaded guilty to breaching the order.

Judge Martin Picton handed him 18 months’ prison, suspended for 18 months.

He told Rogers: “It will not happen again.

“I expect police to be visiting you on a regular basis to check.

“If you breach it you will go into custody for 18 months as well as the sentence for any other offence.”

Rogers was told to go on a sex offender programme, undergo up to 35 days’ rehabilitation and carry out 150 hours’ unpaid work.

The iPhone involved in the offending was forfeited.

Ian Fenny, prosecuting via video link, told the court Rogers installed Kik peer-to-peer software on his iPhone and then deleted it.

The court heard Rogers had completed a sex offender programme but had not engaged with his GP or mental health services regarding his mental health until after he offended.

Mr Oarith said: “He acknowledges the shame and guilt from this offending.

“He struggles with his mental health on a day to day basis.

“He is a man who needs intervention and that intervention would be best suited in the community rather than in custody.”

Pervert who worked with children found in Sheffield with indecent images

A pervert who worked with children was found with indecent images of youngsters on his laptop after a police raid.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on February 4 how Thomas Meucci, aged 34, was caught with the indecent images by police who visited his former home on Ashgate Road, near Broomhill, Sheffield.

Ian Goldsack, prosecuting, said police attended Meucci’s former home on January 7, 2019, and he admitted he had been downloadng indecent images.

Meucci pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images including 20 category A images, seven category B and 23 category C, with category A being the most serious.

Mr Goldsack added the images had been viewed and deleted and they had involved youngsters aged between 4 and 14-years-old with the majority aged between eight and 10-years-old.

Meucci, of Laurie Crescent, Henleaze, Bristol was sentenced to a two-year community order with a sex-offender programme and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

Meucci was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

Judge Sarah Wright told Meucci: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. These were appalling images. The serious nature of this type of offending is that you are a danger to children and the consumer of this material – that is you – causes others to commit very serious offences against children in order to produce that material.

“It’s troubling that you were working with young children when you were searching for these images.”

Former Bude Town Councillor released from prison

Former Bude Town Councillor Kenneth Bennett, 58, has just been released from jail after serving three months for indecent assault on a young female

Bennett was originally handed a nine-month sentence at Truro Crown Court last October, but it was reduced to six on appeal at the Royal Court of Justice, and he was released from Exeter Prison on Friday January 26 after serving just three months.

Bennett has been placed on the Sexual Offences Register for the next ten years

Paedophile pensioner jailed for sex assaults on teenage boy in Somerset

A pensioner has been jailed for a series of sexual assaults on a teenage boy in Somerset.

Former teacher James Deboyer, 70, formerly of Frome but now of Braeside Park, Dobwalls, Cornwall, was found guilty at Taunton Crown Court of ten offences of indecent assault dating back more than three decades.

On Friday, he was sentenced to nine years in prison at Exeter Crown Court.

During the trial, the victim said he was aged between 13 and 15 and at school in Somerset when he was befriended and then abused by Deboyer.

The court was told Deboyer also touched the teenager during a school trip and made him lie about this age so he could buy him with drinks at pubs.

The former teacher was a large and dominant figure who exerted power and control over the teenager through fear which has persisted throughout his life, the court heard.

The victim read a moving personal statement which set out the devastating effects the assaults had on him.

He said the mental torture he had endured reliving the events has left him emotionally scarred.

“It has left me angry and unable to trust people, especially men,” he said.

The trial was told that Deboyer, a former teacher and tattoo shop owner with a keen interest in bodybuilding, was aged in his 40s when the offences were committed. He told his victim at the time that nobody would believe him if he revealed what had happened.

The offences came to light many years later when the defendant told police. The publicity around disgraced child sex offender Jimmy Savile helped to convince the victim to reveal what happened, the trial was told.

Deboyer told the jury there had never been any sexual contact between the pair. It was said that his plans to retire with his wife to France would not now be possible.

Judge Timothy Rose told Deboyer: “It was quite obvious to me the evidence against you was clear and compelling. The offences in question all amount to indecent assaults perpetrated by you against a single victim.

They have blighted his emotional and mental well-being.”

Deboyer was made subject to the Sex Offender Register for an indefinite period.
