Redditch man Neil Johnson jailed for rape and sex offences
A Redditch man has been jailed for eight years for rape and other sex offences.
Neil Johnson, aged 43, chose to defend himself and pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to two charges of rape against the same woman dating back to 2011.
Johnson, of Slimbridge Close, Redditch, also pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault and one of harassment.
Siobhan Collins, prosecuting, told the court Johnson, a father-of-two, had been having psychiatric treatment for depression and alcohol addiction following the breakdown of his marriage when he met the woman, who also had mental health issues.
She told her hairdresser and her psychologist what had happened and in June 2014 she contacted the police.
Johnson was arrested but said he could not remember because he had memory problems caused by his treatment. He initially denied the offences but later went voluntarily to confess after a session with his counsellor, Miss Collins said.
In a victim impact statement, the woman said she felt “dirty and no good” as a result of the offences.
Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said Johnson would be given credit for taking the unusual step of pleading guilty in such a case and sparing his victim a court appearance.
He was given a total of eight years and ordered to sign the sex offenders register until further notice.
