Mum said she was ‘ashamed’ of Rayleigh son’s child abuse images stash

A mother said she was “ashamed” of her son after police raided the family home to find his child abuse pictures.

Jason Cumberland has been spared jail after the police raided his home in Rayleigh while his mother and father were present.

The 49-year-old’s home-built computer was seized by police after they received evidence that it had been used to access indecent images of children.

Cumberland, of Parklands Avenue, immediately accepted responsibility for the images during the raid on September 4, 2019.

Cumberland was interviewed by police last year where he accepted the tower computer that was seized was his, but otherwise remained silent.

A total of 25 moving images were found – with ten being in category A, the most serious kind.

Cumberland admitted three counts of making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography and was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court yesterday.

Judge Samantha Cohen told Cumberland: “Every photo you looked at is a record of a child being abused or exploited, and that’s the reality of the images.”

Cumberland received a three year community order with 150 hours unpaid work and must pay £500 prosecution costs.
