Hull paedophile had so many vile images police are still searching his 1.1 million collection
A pervert has been caught with nearly 9,000 indecent images of children.
Andrew Bell, 56, admitted to police that he was in possession of thousands of images before they had a chance to look at his computer.
Bell, of Mayland Avenue, west Hull, appeared at Hull Crown Court on November 16 to be sentenced for eight counts of possessing indecent images of children.
Bell possessed four Category A, the worst category for this offence, videos and images as well as two category B.
A majority of images fell at category C or below with nearly 9,000 discovered.
However, it was heard that police had not yet looked into around 1.1 million other images that had been found.
Judge Mark Bury said: “You have enjoyed a full working life. You have achieved a degree of success in your employment and you’re well-known.
“Sadly that appears to be as much as can be said because you don’t have a partner or any children and you have never been in a relationship. You don’t appear to have any social life at all.
“As you were to tell the police you became lonely and, to use your words, in a dark place.
“During that time you used your computer to access a very large amount of indecent images of children, nearly 9,000 category C images.
“It is very concerning that the police had not yet got round to looking at another 1.1 million or so.
“Given that there were so many category C images, and only four category A and two category B, it is reasonable to assume that the large majority were category C.”
Bell was sentenced to a 24 month community order and must complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.
He will also be placed on the sex offenders register and must adhere to the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
