Sex attack victim left dreading every birthday by Derby child rapist
A sex attack victim now dreads his birthday arriving each year as it reminds him of the first time he was abused by a Derby child rapist.
The boy, who was first indecently assaulted on his ninth birthday by Andrew Tighe, says he has been “haunted his entire life” by the abuse he suffered.
And a second underage victim woke up after being plied with alcohol to find himself being raped by the now 56-year-old.
Derby Crown Court heard how Tighe, of Sunnyhill, was jailed for 13 years in 2001 for carrying out the exact same crimes against four other victims.
But the two new complainants have only recently felt able to come forward and report what happened to them as children now they have become adults.
Judge Shaun Smith QC, sentencing Tighe, read out parts of their victim impact statements.
In his, the first boy said: “Because it happened for the first time on my birthday I now dread it every year it comes around.
“I wish that I could skip that day every year it happens.
“I feel the abuse has held me back from achieving my goals in life.
“The abuse I suffered has haunted me my entire life.”
The second victim who, was befriended when he was aged 11 by Tighe more than 30 years ago, had part of his impact statement read out.
In it he said: “I feel like I have been a victim all my life.
“I took the wrong path in life as a result of what he did to me and I continue to suffer emotionally.”
In 2001, Tighe, of Blackmore Street, was jailed for 10 years and handed a three-year licence for the rape and sexual abuse of underage boys in Derby.
He was released on licence in 2008 but the two men who have now come forward told officer how they were targeted by him when they were young boys.
The younger one was made to touch Tighe sexually “on many occasions” over a period of around 20 months when he was aged nine to 11.
Judge Smith said: “You took him to his home and threatened him.
“You told him that if he said anything to anyone you would go after him and hurt him.”
The second victim was befriended by Tighe over CB radio which was popular at the time the abuse took place.
Judge Smith said: “You invited him to your address, you drank alcohol and smoked cigarettes with him, all provided by you.
“You touched and kissed him and on one occasion he was drunk and remembers waking up on his front with you raping him.”
Judge Smith reiterated to the court that had the abuse been known about at the time Tighe was sentenced in 2001 his sentence then would have been harsher.
Now he has jailed him for six years after Tighe pleaded guilty to a number of counts of sexual abuse against the two victims.
