Belfast man jailed for sharing child sexual abuse images

A Belfast man started a six-month sentence yesterday after he admitted distributing indecent images of children online.

Nathan McCarroll (25) was handed a two-and-a-half year sentence by Judge Paul Ramsey – six months in custody and two years on licence.

Belfast Crown Court heard some of the images found featured children as young as three.

McCarroll’s criminality emerged when his Lochinver Drive home was searched on November 16, 2015.

It was also determined that McCarroll had distributed some of these images to others online.

During sentencing, Judge Ramsey noted that McCarroll’s search history on the devices proved “he did not come across these by accident”, and said the most serious aspect of his offending was the distribution element.
