Paedophile sentenced over sex offences against young girl

A paedophile has been jailed after he admitted a string of sexual offence charges against a young girl

Landscape gardener Robert Hiley, 25 of Birmingham appeared at Birmingham Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to the following charges:

• Two counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 by penetration

• Two counts of causing or inciting a child aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity

The court heard that Hiley had groomed the seven-year-old victim before isolating her and then sexually abusing her on several occasions. 

Hiley had denied the offences throughout the police investigation and preliminary court appearances. He finally admitted the offences minutes before his trial was due to start

The judge sentenced Hiley to five years and 10 months imprisonment

Hiley was given a sexual harm prevention order until further notice and was told to sign the sex offenders register for an indefinite period
