Man jailed after assaulting baby girl

A man has been jailed after he admitted assaulting a baby girl less than six months old who was left with serious injuries including multiple fractures.

Victor Awadzi, 25, was arrested after hospital staff became suspicious when they were treating the child who had multiple injuries, but no underlying condition that could have caused them.

Police said the tot was lucky to survive given her young age

He was arrested on May 14, 2014, when hospital staff became suspicious about the young girl’s injuries.

At a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court Awadzi admitted two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and a further charge of cruelty to a person under 16 years old.

However he gave no credible explanation as to how the injuries were caused.

Awadzi, of Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
