Llandrindod Wells man on sex offenders register after downloading indecent images of children

A LLANDRINDOD Wells man has been placed on a community order and will be on the sex offenders register for five years for downloading indecent images of children.

Huw Gwynn Jones, 64, admitted downloading 10 indecent images when appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court last month, and was sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on March 10.

Two of the images were category A, the most serious category, three were category B, and five were category C.

In February, magistrates were told that following information received by the police, a search warrant was executed on September 16, 2016, at Jones’ home address on High Street, Llandrindod Wells.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies said: “He was present during the search and said ‘I’ve downloaded all sorts, it’s all on my laptop.'”

Jones was arrested and a number of devices were sent off for analysis, revealing the illegal images. When interviewed at a later date, Jones admitted that he had downloaded them.

On March 10, a judge sentenced Jones to a two year community order, including 40 days rehabilitation.

He was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years, and made to sign the sex offenders register for five years.

Jones was also made to pay £500 costs, and an £85 victim surcharge.

A 64-year-old man will be sentenced next month after admitting downloading 10 indecent photographs of children.

Huw Gwynn Jones appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to downloading the images, two of which were of category A, the most serious category.

Three of the other images were of category B, and five of category C.
